Bought a 2022 Carrera Cabriolet from Harper Porsche in Knoxville, TN about one month ago. Salesman convinced me to go with the wheel and tire guarantee package. Not to hard to do considering the cost of replacement tires and wheels. He had replaced all the tires with new ones. Drove about 25 miles on my way home and had a flat! It was a Saturday. Called the dealer talked to the salesman. He said good thing you went for the warranty and dispatched a wrecker. Gave me a Macan for a loaner. Super nice SUVin my opinion. Delivered the car to me, a trip of about 75 miles, and took his loaner back. Quick service. The Porsche distribution warehouse is in Atlanta which isn’t far. I live about halfway between Knoxville and Nashville. Next Saturday I drove to Nashville a distance of about 75 miles. About 25 miles from home I had another flat! Same deal only this time the wrecker driver had a much longer drive. Outstanding service from Harper Porsche. I bought a winter tire and wheel package. Drove to Knoxville in my pickup. When I got home I opened the tire and wheel package to put the winter tires in my garage and they were the wrong ones! Called Harper. They ordered the proper tires from Atlanta and delivered them to my house. Turns out the label in the winter tire shipping crate was wrong so it wasn’t Harper’s fault. Very happy with this dealer and salesman, name is Trey. In conclusion, the tire and wheel package has paid off for me.

Porsche's US sales practices are despicable. Total brand turnoff. Unobtainable model after unobtainable model with no fair way of getting an allocation, even for long-time enthusiasts with many past GT purchases.

I have to agree with dealers giving the locals a priority. I was a first time buyer late 2021 early 2022 during peak shortage and just before the Felicity Ace sank. I was able to get a GT/GTS allocation at msrp in Northern California which was unheard of at the time. Just because in I live 5 minutes from the dealership.

No offense to the ex salesman, but there is no shortage of Taycan's. One Colorado dealer had 6 used Taycan's in various trims. They also had new Taycans. They did not have a single 992 911, new or used.

I’m one of the new Porsche owners that ended up paying extra for a 911. The $5k adm for a 911T is smaller than some of the other ADMs I’ve heard about but it was that or wait for a used Carrera T and most of them don’t have a manual transmission so I agreed to the extra $5000 even though I wasn’t able to choose the options like paint because of the extra cost. I called 4 other dealers in Texas and they all needed a trade in which I don’t own yet.

Mike comes across as a very knowledgeable, sincere representative of the Porsche brand. During the discussion referencing the relatively high cost of routine services, such as oil changes, it reminded me of an oil change on my Macan recently. The local dealership takes care of both my Macan and new, 911 Carrera. On the recent Macan service, I got home from the dealer and noticed the oil level was about 1/2 quart low. I called my service writer and advised him of the situation. He suggested I stop back by and they would take care of it. I told him I lived about 50 miles away….so that was going to be a bit inconvenient. 2 hours later, the SERVICE DEPT MANAGER showed up at my house, topped of the oil and left 2 additional quarts !! That’s what I call service. How many brand X dealers would do that ? Not many, for sure.

I think Vu is not asking the questions we all came here to hear. Throwing soft balls at this guy. I think it is because PCA and porsche of NA have a very close/symbiotic business relationship and makes this whole show bias. One example is the “better” service at a dealership they harped on. My brother is a senior Porsche technician at a prominent dealership in So Cal and he said any well trained mechanic can change the oil (for example). You are paying for the fancy building. And many Porsche customers are ok with that.
@PorscheClubofAmerica
@PorscheClubofAmerica 9 ай бұрын
What questions would you like addressed? Post them here and we'll try to get them answered. In your example above, the oil change can be done by a well trained mechanic, but there is a value if the car is maintained by an authorized dealer with full records etc. And you are correct that the building cost is part of the cost. It's the entire experience. It's good that owners have choices.

I don't see any return to normalcy on the sports cars and that will only get worse with EV 718's. Those will fizzle out quickly, just like the Taycan. Low range, no noise, no manual, etc. What that does is push the 911 into even higher demand. I see Porsche reversing course after the 718 EV fails and going back to ICE (similar to the failed 4-cylinder experiment). This coupled with Porsche becoming more of an aspirational brand and popularity amongst influencers, and the reliability / prestige with the car, means that 911 will continue to raise prices while still dealing with huge demand for the foreseeable future.
@tomy8450
@tomy8450 9 ай бұрын
Agreed. Not mentioned, but the big driver of the market is the CAFE requirements for average fuel economy to increase each year. This is why some cars can only be customer ordered (manual Jeep, etc) and only makes this more true and tougher to buy a 2 door at reasonable prices.

The sales figures listed in Panorama indicate that 911s and 718s are still being sold at a decent clip. Given that, the only rational explanation for the lack of inventory and allocations is that demand is higher. Maybe a full blown recession would solve the problem.

Unfortunately, they're alienating generations of buyers. I'm in my late 30s, make lots of money. But I've tried for 4 years to get a gt car. Unobtainium. I called 50 dealers, 2 took my money for 2 years and then gave it back to me (after even taking my build code, discussed 50k ADM and told me likely next week I'd get allocation) and ghosted me. I started buying teslas and I'll probably never look back. They may later regret not having young buyers that are in their system, as their ICE prowess doesn't seem to be translating EVs (certainly resale values). Sad that many dealers appear to just be backdooring GT cars so they can sell as used. One of them that took my money has a gt3 for sale for 275k (down from 295k) with 1200 miles on it. There are about 160 used low miles 992 gt3s that are for sale in USA right now.

he's a retired salesman what kind of hot water can he get into? no more invites to porsche special events? So while I have your attention... i just inquired with two dealerships, Monterey and San Jose, about an e hybrid Panamera or Cayenne. Both basically said don't call us we'll call you. San Jose shared that one customer is due to get a Cayenne next May that he's waited almost two years for. Monterey just said they don't have any allocations and that was it they didn't offer to put me on a list or anything. And I bought 2 911s from them and taken all of my service business to them. Both dealers essentially said they have no advance info about allocations more than a month out. If that is true, and I'm having a hard time believing it, that's a terrible way for Porsche to be doing business, not to mention treating their customers. Porsche has lost its way, they've fallen in love with the exotic and hypercar market, and have stopped paying attention to building cars people can actually buy. Well there are other fish in the sea. @@PorscheClubofAmerica

Porsche could careless about true enthusiasts at this point. Dealerships are robbing their consumer base, and they're just turning a blind eye to it - even supporting it im sure. I've been to many dealerships from the east to the west coast and my experience has been the same; Ask for an allocation, get spat on, and told you're not good enough until you buy 10 of their cars a month, and then kicked out of the show room. Really a shame.

That increases mark up and drives dealers to further select their clientele, which is toxic in its own right. It's similar to what's happening with Rolex. Any Volkswagen dealer can service a 911, and whoever buys a used Porsche certainly does not go into Porsche to do its maintenance.. its either DIY or some Porsche specialist who services any other car like a polo or an audi. Only idiots who service the car at the dealer are the ones who lease the car 2/3 years (SO DO NOT OWN IT) and get ripped off with the excuse that the car like this will be in warranty. WELL guess what, BY LAW YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SERVICE THE CAR AT THE DEALR TO KEEP ITS WARRANTY, ANYOEN CAN SERVICE THE CAR AS LONG AS IT IS LOGGED . In the end it will suffice to do a Porsche approved certificate the day you wanna sell it if you actually own the car instead of renting it. taycans ....pfft, go to any dealer in Europe and offer 20/25% below msrp and they will sell it and lie down a red carpet for you too and kiss your butt. doesn't change the very fact that 911 prices are tanking and that 911 deliveries take 4 to 5 months here in Europe... and it doesnt change the fact that GT3 owners are losing big chunks of money of those cars. You should NOT compare 911 with Ferrari...911 are sport cars with Volkswagen quality interiors and Ferrari are super cars with quality interiors and materials you do not find in commercial cars, just as there is difference for one type of quality leathers and finish in a Range Rover sport, a regular Range Rover and a Rolls Royce. Stop hyping 911 , it is nothing different that the Europeans version of a corvette...any person with soem brain would rathe have to buy a 10 years old ferrari thana crappy piece of junk 911 which some idiots think the can still sell at sticker price when every one in the world is offering less than half of the asking price. There is a flood of used 911 coming into the market this winter and during the next driving season that you have no idea and that will definitely make this video look more than embarrassing...I wouldn't be surprised if you take this video down by black friday. Once again its all about the dealers making money like he said the dealers make money on services and warranty services and overpriced cheap ceramic coating products and ext warranty services that don't like to pay out on repairs after your factory warranty expires alos add Shandy dealers work with certain banks and they ones that say we get you financing 100% they already know your rate because they just left the golfers club outing with dirty banks makesure you know your credit score and worthlessness before you shop some bmw dealer trying that with me once dirty dealers also get kickbacks form dirty banks and unfair interest rates
