What a great character he was. It was years after that I first heard the term 'gentleman racer' and I immediately presumed they were talking about the Captain.

Looked to be very early in the Torana era when Minis still faired rather well as mentioned by Peter. He always wore his trademark bushy beard which greyed in later years. In this footage, the grey is yet to arrive. Looks like 1970/71 to me. Someone should commit to a full feature film on supremely entertaining, always flamboyant, enigmatic, highly competitive, rally & race driver, much adored & admired, LEGENDARY PETER JANSON. He really was a stand out competitor who could drive just as quickly as anyone else on the day. He had close ties to Harry Firth & Ian Tate & the HDT in the early days & he went on through the L34 years, to A9Xs & then early commodores. His driving was smooth & precise & he often romped home to podium finishes. His business dealings at one point included hiring out refitted old Sydney City Council Double-Decker Buses & he had a rather famous social life. He was always a great talker & never camera shy. He was a shining light he should be mentioned more often. Peter Janson was a one of unique & colourful character who drove like a champion.
