Here is Okinawa, we bag the fruit and let them ripen on the tree. We use the same bags that we use for passion fruit. The bags here come with a tie that you can attach to the branch. We have amazing success with germinating. We put the seeds inside a moist paper towel and put that into a ziplock bag. We put the bag into the fridge over night and then into a sock drawer for about two weeks. Some of the seeds will begin to germinate while in the drawer. After two weeks, we put the seeds into potted fruit tree soil. We have had 100% of the seeds germinate using this process and have about 20 trees to plant.

Wonderful! IDK why but canistel is one of my very favorite fruits, too. Would guess that, with the color, it's full of vitamin A. I was at the Fruit and Spice Park last week and the pickings were slim; however, one canistel tree had dropped some fruits. I hadn't had any since 2013; didn't hesitate in grabbing a couple, peeling away the edge parts and feasting on that yummy inside! Was able to buy a Tropo at Robert Was Here fruit stand and was just enjoying some of that one today. A special canistel day all around!

This fruit is paste but loosely creamy and must be allowed to become soft. This can be added to a flan or just eaten as a dessert.

Well Thank You, I happen t have a fruit tree ...and maybe that's what it's called. however my fruit is round, not pointy at the end...I see you have two varieties...and the name sounds familiar...It blossoms in November...and inside is like you mentioned...Now I would take those branches you cut and plant them in another container with maybe a banana peels, with another fruit, and you may get quicker fruit...

Can you explain how to prune and when. I get no flowers although I have the tree for 8 years. I am not sure if it was grown from seed at the nursery or I prune the growing tips. Thank you
@TrulyTropical3 жыл бұрын
You might try giving it potassium We usually prune after the last fruit is picked. Cutting back to a small shoot or branch often works out well.
@ronendvir3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Do you know when the buds are turning into fruit buds. when will you definitely not prune, in order not to loose fruit production?
@PracticalPrimate3 жыл бұрын
@@ronendvir flowers grow in the summer and fruit develop into the winter (at least here) so late winter/early spring ends up being a good time to prune.

My canistel looks healthy and year after year sprouts a ton of the pre-fruit buds, but then they all fall off. Every year same thing. Can anyone suggest why they are not becoming fruit? It gets full sun and the leaves are a healthy green. It also gets watered regularly.

I recently saved some seeds from canistels I enjoyed. It is not overly sweet and I was able to enjoy a break from the mango varieties I usually enjoy. I like to break up my fruit diet with canistels and starfruit and figs when I need fruits that are not overly sweet.

Hello, how are you, greetings from Jujuy Argentina, here this fruit does not exist, but I would be interested in being able to plant it. I wanted to ask you until the temperature resists because here the weather in winter reaches -1 centigrade and I don't know if it resists that temperature. I would appreciate it if you can comment, since the information on the canistel is little. Greetings

My friend planted 3 plants from good tasting fruits. Out of the 3 one made fruits in 3 years, other two made in 4 to 5 years. One tree is packed with lots of smaller fruit. One of the others is packed with bigger fruits but less on tree and the last had a mixture of fruits. They all tasted good. I’d say do both, that’s what I’m doing.
