An Introduction to Crayfish
"A Water Quality Monitor's Introduction to Crayfish" webinar hosted on September 18, 2013 by the California Water Quality Monitoring Collaboration Network and the Clean Water Team and presented by the Missouri Stream Team Program's Chris Riggert.
Did you know that crawdads, crawfish, freshwater lobsters, river lobsters, mudbuggers, ditch crickets are all names used to describe the same animal? Crayfish are one of the benthic macro invertebrates (BMIs) many volunteer monitors find when conducting biomonitoring. Crawdads are special types of crustaceans because they have five pairs of jointed legs, so they all belong to the order Decopoda, which means "ten-footed." Learning more about these cool crustaceans as we discuss all things "crawdad". Topics to be covered include taxonomy, distribution, morphology, life histories, ecologies, conservation status, aquatic invasive species status and more!
