African Americans still suffer from systemic discrimination, and the country’s “war on drugs” is chiefly to blame. Police disproportionately search young black men, and are much more likely to imprison them for nonviolent drug offenses. On release, they often can’t find work because of stringent background checks. This process deprives black Americans of their rights as effectively as the segregation laws the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s fought to overturn. Watch Macat’s short video for a great introduction to Michelle Alexander’s The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness, one of the most important sociology books ever written.
Macat’s videos give you an overview of the ideas you should know, explained in a way that helps you think smarter. Through exploration of the humanities, we learn how to think critically and creatively, to reason, and to ask the right questions.
Critical thinking is about to become one of the most in-demand set of skills in the global jobs market.* Are you ready?
Learn to plan more efficiently, tackle risks or problems more effectively, and make quicker, more informed and more creative decisions with Macat’s suite of resources designed to develop this essential set of skills.

Ppl make it seem as if crime is a cause. Crime is an effect , an result of the environment or social climate. If the enivorment is low of resources crime will happen no matter the race of ppl in that area

they don't wanna hear the truth! they'd rather live in their world that black is bad and white is good rather than looking at the historical reasons why our society is the way it is today when you force people to live in a ghetto (segregation) without paying them for their hard work without access to jobs, what do you think is gonna happen? Even when they figure out a way to get out of that racist ditch, like built black wall street, racists gotta destroy it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenwood,_Tulsa

@@shekn0ws007 everything that was mentioned in this video that they call "discrimination" happens to all races. I did some research, and Disenfranchisement happens to everyone whose crimes are severe enough. And the video perfectly states the main purpose of background checks. also, any time of illegal drug use is prison worthy. These happen to everyone, not just blacks, stop playing the victim. Please.

Kyan Xiao basically what I’m saying is that your comment is horseshit. It Doesn’t take much research to come to the conclusion that people of all races are incarcerated and disanfranchised. But that’s wether the point nor the problem.

Kyan Xiao (3) Not because we commit more crimes, uh uh, because most of them can’t affort to buy themselves out and are falsely accused of crime. Cause guess what, private prisons make HELLA money. Prison is a business and America’s the company. And that’s a FACT. Ever heard of Kalief Browder?

@@dylangarrett8133 the "party switch" did happen, but it wasn't the Racists going to the Republican party and the good guys were going to the democratic side, politicians mostly stayed from their sides if I remember correctly, though citizens likely switched from one side to the other.

I think the biggest problem is culture and not race (not the culture of blacks or Hispanics) because it is what gets people to do worse in school or drop out you have a better chance of getting into college if you are a racial minority because they need to accept a certain number this eliminates systemic racism besides between individuals and non violent crimes can include burglary and intent to sell drugs which both happen a lot in these communities but in neighborhoods that are more wealthy they are more likely to just possess the drugs and if it’s a small amount you’re more likely not to get prison time

I think it’s because the cops sees the richer person as the person who pays for his salary versus the poor person. It’s pretty understandable that he turn a blind eye to the wealthier people living in society. It’s not right but it’s understandable. Also any rich person can end one cops career just because they want it to end because they have a lot of lawyers and money.
