I wonder what changed in the 1980s-90s to push the government towards increased incarceration? Jim Crow was getting pushed back in the 60s-70s, was that part of it? A backlash? I know war on drugs was a huge part of the Reagan era but there were drugs in the 60s-70s too, why was 80s-90s such a huge carceral era?
@kalebhudson4563 жыл бұрын
@@lilithgrrrl you either don't have a grasp on the war on drugs or you're trolling because you kinda answered your own question there. After Lyndon Johnson's terms, the parties agendas kinda switched and America was pretty divided and over time grew more or less racist. The reason why the litteraly every canidate was "hard on crime" after nixon was in office was because you couldn't get elected without it. Due to propaganda and scapegoating drugs as a common problem among americans. Its lot of other stuff you should know already, but search John Ehrlichman and read his statement. Once reagan was in office it just got worse. Basically the war on drugs was an elaborate mask to hide the minority and counter culture antipathy.
@kalebhudson4563 жыл бұрын
@@lilithgrrrl also wanted to note that policies that were implemented severely changed the judicial and policing system, and double standards were magnified. Judges had to give mandatory life sentences for even the smallest amounts of drugs and drug deals if they were racist or not. In a country with the common law and the jury system, mass incarceration is caused by mass criminal behavior.
@michaellyons28155 жыл бұрын
not really, they have created new laws all the time making things that would have been a fine 30 years ago into 5 year prison terms. In several states you can go to prison for misdemeanors for 5 years that were only punishable by 30 days in jail. In the 80's our county jail in a town of 6 thousand had 22 bunks... now it has 200 and is always full. Prosecutors seek the harshest penalty they can get and judges go along with them. And GOD FORBID you have a 30 year old criminal record... you get even a misdemeanor and they send you to prison for 5 years... plus even when you are innocent it doesn't matter if you know anything about the criminal justice system because if you take something to trial the jury WILL CONVICT YOU OF SOMETHING IF YOU HAVE A RECORD... it is so common that they even have a work for it "compromised verdict.".. They all know it is the case, so prosecutors force innocent people to take no contest pleas or knowingly face a harsher conviction and more lengthy penalty for a crime they never committed... perhaps often times for a crime that never even occurred.

Then you must explain why there was a mass rise in criminal behavior, the factors, remedies, etc. Was it just specifically this one group of people sharing the same race and similar economic woes turning to violent crime all of a sudden because they’re wired differently and stopped pretending to be civilized? Highly unlikely, especially since some tenets of that are outright false.

How effective are social rehabilitation programs at actually stopping crime within a community compared to incarceration? What percentage of the community are victims of crimes in a community that implements social rehabilitation programs compared to a community that implements incarceration. Dont think so. Democrats love putting them in jail and they get 95% of their votes exclusively. That is some funny arrangement, And Republicans want to set them free- what the hell for? Keep them all behind bars! Nothing but a dead weight to society. Maybe Democrats had the proper idea from the beginning. They know exactly how to treat them and been with them the longest after all. Hillary said she carried hotsauce in her purse and she got lots of votes. Even Pres. Johnson said “these ‘nigras’ will vote Democrats for the next 200 years.” And the overseers...Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton know exactly how to keep t(em in line.

How effective are social rehabilitation programs at actually stopping crime within a community compared to incarceration? What percentage of the community are victims of crimes in a community that implements social rehabilitation programs compared to a community that implements incarceration. If the majority of African Americans that are incarcerated are high school drop outs, then what has been done to prevent this? Maybe the problem is not incarceration but a lack of quality education within the African American community? How much money do we spend on policing compared to education within these communities. what does he mean with: "....a historically aggrieved group whose liberty in the United States was never firmly established to begin with"
@zackabdi27036 жыл бұрын
African American's were brought to the united states as slaves and were in that position for about 350 years. They were then subjected to racial segregation and discrimination up until the late 1960s when the civil rights movement was starting a revolution. That was about 50 years ago, at that point blacks were still trying to gain positions in many different areas. Mass incarceration was introduced in the 1980s with the "War on drugs" initiative. What he means by that statement is throughout American history the Black community has face numerous severe challenges and to this day still have not had any solutions that target the problem. Jail and imprisonment is somewhat of a societal bandaid that allows the government to ignore people who have mental illness or substance abuse issues. Obviously criminals are breed in communities where poverty is rampant. Anyways I could go on and on about this, but i'm sure you get the point.

+Lieutenant Gray Squirrel Keep in mind that 46% of people in prison are there because of simple possession charges. Poor people tend to turn to drug dealing due to a lack of opportunity for education or employment in their community. Our county has arbitrarily high sentences for drugs/drug dealing. We have these high sentences because we have a very old and unscientific drug scheduling system that we refuse to update. We have not updated this drug scheduling system because private prisons lobby to keep the system as is. These private prisons lobby because they benefit off of keeping their facilities full. This is a very vicious and unfair cycle. So, maybe your comment should be 'Just update the US Drug Scheduling System and end private prisons' instead of "Just don't break the law?"
@sinastaninja6 жыл бұрын
+SKRIMEO I completely agree with you. Alcohol was once arbitrarily made illegal. When this substance was illegal, Booze runners and Bootleggers were considered criminal. These Bootleggers resorted to making alcohol because they were poor and their communities had no access to adequate education or jobs. Once alcohol became legal, there were no more Bootlegging charges and the prison population dropped. Also, millions of families were able to come out of poverty because they were able to legally profit from the alcohol they were already making by establishing bars, breweries, etc. An entire industry sprouted out of ending the prohibition of alcohol in America and boosted this nation's GDP. So, the problem was not the alcohol, it was arbitrary legal status of alcohol that was the issue. Now, lets apply this same line of thought to "drugs" today. Just like it was during the Prohibition Era, our current drug scheduling system is unscientific, arbitrary, and criminalizes harmless behavior. There is nothing wrong with selling most of these substances people are getting locked up for (Weed, Shrooms, LSD are pretty harmless. Even pure, uncut Cocaine has medicinal qualities). Our society has just pushed arbitrary Christian social norms onto other people under the guise of "morality" and "public health". We are actually doing more harm and creating more poverty with our current drug policy.
@sinastaninja6 жыл бұрын
@sotojoe8 That is a good point. Im confused about why you used the word "race card", given that I never even touched on the subject of race. What do you do if you get arrested at the age of 15 for a drug possession case because you were just trying to bring in money to help your parents pay the rent? That charge will kinda throw a wrench in the whole military thing, now wont it? Why do you justify having a a completely arbitrary drug policy? Why not just change this simple thing so that we can stop wasting money for state and private prisons? Why justify a system that arbitrarily creates "criminals" based off of old arbitrary Christain norms?

HE ANGRILY THREW THE CARD INTO THE GARBAGE CAN AND FINGERPRINTED ME ONCE AGAIN AND THE SAME THING CAME OUT OF MY PRINTS DEVIL HEADS. HE THEN CALLED HIS PARTNER OVER WHO ALSO ARRESTED ME AND SHOWED HIM THE CARD. WHEN HE LOOKED AT THE DEVIL HEADS THE FIRST THING HE TOLD HIS PARNTER WAS LET HIM GO. THIS IS A WARNING FROM GOD UP ABOVE. WE ARE GOING TO GET INTO A LOT OF TROUBLE FOR PUTTING OUR HANDS ON HIM AND DOING WHAT WE DID TO HIM (MEANING PLANTING THE GUN). HE PLEADED WITH HIM TO LET ME GO. HE THEN PUT ME INTO THE PRECINCT CELL NEXT TO THE SARGENTS DESK SO HE CAN DECIDED WHAT TO DO. HE PACED BACK AND FORTH AND OBVIOUSLY THE DEVIL WAS WHISPERING PLEADING WITH HIM TO NOT LET GO. HE EVENTUALLY DECIDED NOT TO HEED GOD'S WARNING AND THEN DROVE ME NOT TO THE LOCAL JAIL/COURT HOUSE WHERE I WAS SUPPOSE TO GO. BUT TO A MUNICIPAL BUILDING. THEY BROUGHT ME IN FROM THE BACK OF THE BUILDING AND TOOK ME DOWN TO THE SUB BASEMENT WHERE THERE WAS ONE LONE JAILCELL. AS I LOOKED OUT OF THIS JAILCELL DOOR I SAW A BIG FELLOW AROUND 6' 5" WEARING A TANK TOP WITH A SHAVED HEAD TATTOOED ALL OVER HIS BODY UP TO THE SIDES OF HIS FACE. HE WAS STANDING NEXT TO 2 BIG DOORS THAT WERE OPEN AND YOU HEARD A BOILER RUNNING AND I KNEW WHAT THE NYPD WAS GOING TO DO WITH ME FOR SATAN. THEY WERE GOING TO BURN ME ALIVE IN THE BOILER. AS THE THOUGHT KEPT RUNNING THROUGH MY HEAD AS I LOOKED OVER AT THE JAILCELL DOORS. THE DEVIL APPEARED IN FRONT OF THE JAILCELL DOOR AS A MAN THIS TIME AND LOOKED AT ME WITH THIS ANGRY FACE AND SAID THESE EXACT WORDS TO ME: "BELIEVE WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO YOU IT IS REAL". THE DEVIL THEN LEFT AND 7-8 PLAIN CLOTHES COPS ENTERED THE JAILCELL AND SURROUNDED ME. THE REST OF THIS STORY IS IN MY BOOK I HOPEFULLY WILL FINISH UP THIS WINTER. MY STORY IS MUCH BIGGER THAN WHAT I HAVE TOLD YOU HERE. MY STORY WILL ASTOUND WORLD LEADERS TO WHAT IS GOING ON HERE IN AMERICA. IF YOU THINK LAW ENFORCEMENT IS DOING GOD'S WORK YOU BETTER THINK AGAIN. 26 YEARS AGO THEY WERE IN THE NYPD AND IT IS 26 YEARS LATER MUST BE SATURATED WITH THESE DEVIL/SATAN WORSHIPPERS. HOW MANY YOUNG BLACK MEN NEVER REALIZED THEY WERE INNOCENT AND THAT LAW ENFORCEMENT WORKING IN CONCERT WITH THE FALLEN ANGEL AND SATAN DIRECTED THE COPS WHERE TO FIND THEM AND GOT THEM LOCKED UP. EVEN IF SOME OF THESE PEOPLE WERE BREAKING THE LAW WHEN THE DEMONS DIRECTED THEM TO CATCH THEM. ANY WAY YOU LOOK AT IT THEY ARE INNOCENT. IF THEY WERE CAUGHT WITHOUT THE DIRECTION OF THE DEMONS, THEN THEY HAVE NO CASE BUT MOST OF THEM WERE PREY FOR THE DEVIL WORKING IN CONCERT WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT HELPING SATAN FILLED THE JAILS UP WITH THE BLACK YOUTH. THOSE WHO HAVE INNOCENTLY DONE JAIL TIME SHOULD NOT WORRY ONE BIT. THE ONES THAT PUT THEIR HANDS ON ME ARE DOWN BELOW AND THAT GOES FOR ANY COPS THAT DO THE DEVIL'S BIDDING TO OTHERS. BY GETTING OTHERS TO DO SATAN'S BIDDING IS HOW SATAN AND THE ANGELS HAVE AVOIDED BEING CAST INTO HELL. LAW ENFORCEMENT IS ALL UNDER SATAN'S CONTROL. IF THESE PEOPLE DIDN'T DO SATAN'S BIDDING. WE WOULD HAVE A PARADISE HERE ON EARTH AND THE DEVIL AND HIS ANGELS WOULD BE HARMLESS TO US AND BE NOTHING MORE THAN FLOATING SPIRITS. HOW SATAN CONTROLS THE EARTH IS THROUGH PEOPLE. THIS IS HOW IT IS DONE THEY ARE RUNNING THE SYSTEM FOR SATAN AND THE FALLEN ANGELS. THOSE WHO DO SATAN'S BIDDING IN LAW ENFORCEMENT, JUDGES, DA'S, CORRECTION OFFICERS, COURT OFFICER ALL WORKING IN CONCERT INHERITE SATAN'S PUNISHMENT AND UPON THEIR DEATH THE DEVIL WILL BE LAUGHING AT THEM AS THEY BEGIN THEIR JOURNEY TO HELL, AND SATAN WILL CONTINUE TO ROAM THE EARTH TO FIND OTHER SUCKERS IT CAN ALSO CONDEMN TO HELL. I WILL ASSURE YOU THAT I AM NOT WRONG ABOUT THIS. LAST YEAR 65,000 YOUNG PEOPLE OVERDOSED ON HEROIN. THEY DEAL WITH DRUGS ON A INNOCENT LEVEL WHEN PEOPLES CHILDREN GET ADDICTED AND THEY FILL PRISON'S UP WITH THEM. SO HOW COME THEY NEVER STOP IT AT THE SOURCE FROM THE DEALERS? BECAUSE THEY ARE INSTRUCTED BY THE DEVIL NOT TO ARREST THOSE SELLING IT AND TO TURN A BLIND EYE TO IT AND ARREST THOSE USING IT. WE HAVE THE FBI, CIA, ATF, DEA, AND ANOTHER DOZEN AGENCIES THAT CAN STOP DRUGS IN HOURS COMPLETELY ERADICATING IT. BUT DON'T BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL UNDER SATAN'S CONTROL. BUT IN THE END THERE IS A PRICE TO PAY BY GOD'S ALMIGHTY HAND. LIFE IS A TEST AND GOD'S NUMBER 1 COMMANDMENT BEFORE ANY OF HIS COMMANDMENT EVEN BEFORE MURDER IS "THY SHALL NOT HAVE ANY GOD'S BEFORE ME" WHAT GOD MEANS BY IT IS SATAN THE DEVIL HIMSELF. FOLLOWING THE DEVIL IS A VERY SERIOUS THING AND I PITY THOSE WHO DO.

how can african americans dropping out in the late seventies justify thier actions when i REMEMBER clearly growing up in the seventies and seeing countless numbers of african americans getting VERY well paying jobs as cops, postal workers, bus drivers, working for con-ed, construction, transit authority was/still african american, school teachers, etc, etc, etc. i think the ONLY job not dominated by african americans was fire-fighters. and as far as poverty, u do have the same numbers, NOT percentage as whites who do grew up poor.

God died 4 are sins so that every christian, catholic, baptist, Mormon, Calvinist from their religious faith can have an abortion and confess thier sins to a religious representative from their faith and be exonerated in the eyes of God.

Stop spreading hate. We as humans need to hold people accountable. Not by their skin color but by their lazy work ethic
