Thanks so much. Has helped me enormously in dealing with the demons lurking all over the place in South Africa as we struggle for true peace.

Actively oppose violence and injustice where ever we see it. What activity would RG be preferring? Picketing and gathering signatures? I'm also thinking Gal. 5:15

Those but also much more. Direct nonviolent action could include civil disobedience and even putting ourselves in harms way to protect another. Just a refusal to use violence.

puh very deep and hard to swallow, but if you see the truth in it, you cant escape it, at least to admit that so scary it may sounds, we have to stop

Extremely articulate and useful. Is it not that *personal* sacrifice must take the place of *externalised* sacrifice? As per Jordan Peterson’s promotion of personal sacrifice in the positive sense.

Sacrifice is "one of those words." Sometimes it means delaying gratification. Sometimes it means giving up one pleasure/value for a greater one; people might give up things to raise children but consider the children the biggest reward of their life. It seems to me that in the Girard use of the world scarifice is something the sacrificed did not choose. Others pick 'em and sacrifice them without consent of the sacrificed.

It seems the demon possessed man in Mark 5 was a scapegoat. The swine-herders were not happy when Jesus healed him.

So, do you think Satan really exist or tu think its a metaphor, cause its kind of confusing when you talk about it, because in the bible says that satan was an angel of God so... you believe he existed as a being or just a metaphor ?? cause it can be both dont you think? a being and all and all violence inside us, cause like the bible says this world its satans world so it can be both no?? i think thats how i understand what youre saying

So this series of videos is about the work of Rene Girard. Girard definitely thinks that the adversary is real but sometimes he will personalize that and sometimes he will speak about it more metaphorically. My best guess is that Girard ultimately believes the adversary is a metaphor but feels it is best communicated in personal terms. As far as Satan being an angel of God, that has more basis in Christian mythology than does directly in the Bible.

@@commonschurch but Jesus say he saw satan falling like a lightning ⚡️, so it can be a being and a metaphor, do believe it’s a metaphor only? Or you believe it is a being too, cause for example like I say in other comments where I live it’s a lot of witch craft like the heavy one and one of the turn into Christianity and she speaks about the devil beeing a real thing, like a real being, and Jesus also say that satan himself was an angel of light before, that he costumize himself as an angel of light

And also in Ezequiel he says that satan was perfect before, and than that some angels went with him, and also he says that at the end the inocuous would be send into the fire with satan and his angels, so...... I don’t understand you, can you please explain it to me

Girard seems to believe that Satan is a metaphor but using personalized language in describing the Adversary is important because evil comes in the form of personal rivalry driven by mimetic desire. That would be entirely consistent with Jesus using similar language. I'm also not convinced Ezekiel 28 (which I assume you're referring to) has anything to do with Satan.

@@commonschurch But if satan doesn’t exist who tempted Jesus when he was in the desert, and also in 1 Peter, Peter says that not even God didn’t forgives the angels who rebel against him, also in Ephesians 6:11-12 say that we have to put and armor cause we need to resist the tricks of the devil, cause we don’t fight agains blood and flesh but with principalities and powers and the rulers of darkness of this century, against spiritually evil hosts in the celestials places, so that it’s a wink about the devils existence no?
