Im 54 now. All through elementary school and high school l used a self taught system very similar to this. I was constantly ridiculed by my teachers. Called a "slacker", a "poor student", a "goof off", a "day dreamer". All because my notebooks were full of nothing but "doodling". Then because like 25% of my total grade were so often based on what the teachers referred to as a "notebook grade", based on their looking through your notes, (I'd often recieve a 0) it would knock my cumulative grade average down into the 70-75% range. Then the lousy ass teachers would use that score as ammunition to brow beat me saying "See, if you would spend your time taking notes instead of doodling, your grades would be higher...". In spite off my scoring 90s -100s in every test. IN FACT l even had some more hateful teachers even try to accuse me if cheating on tests because they refused to believe lcould make perfect scores when "All l ever did was goof off and doodle in class...". A$$h0|€$ Thank goodness l got a full music scholarship to college! Then since "notebook grades" weren't a thing l was always in either the Dean's or President's List and carried a nearly 4.0 GPA.

Seems sadly that they had a lot of hate in their hearts because to teach you have to love doing it and love teaching people grow and learn….but with knowledge puffing us all up if we aren’t careful many teachers just are arrogant. I had to self teach myself certain maths when I got older because majority of my math teachers were always assuming you “knew” what they were teaching and skipped steps and acted irritated when you asked for help and just couldn’t understand something. I used to beat myself up about it thinking it was me when it wasn’t and so many of these teachers are driving people to commit suicide or to take drugs because they are being forced to learn something in a way that was not made for them to learn. Ironically when I would tutor others after college and after school that was when I understood certain things that teachers tried to teach me but just didn’t take the time to teach me in a different way. It was all because I taught myself.

School is systematic. It is to indoctrinate a system and a way of being on students. It is a factory. I am a verbal reasoning focused person. So I was a perfect match for how academia works. It isn't visual so because of this bias many of my students struggled. As a teacher focused on knowing what my job is and what kids need and seeing a disconnect. I had them turn to rote writing down of "notes" so they could produce the products that my job paid me to have them produce... You see this is the parr behind the curtain. We have bosses we are not free agents. We get all the flack but we are told what to produce. When we get out of line we get bad reviews ...we get called in offices .. We get emails we get pressure so we get it from both ends....I am a science major so I am observational and know how to play both ends but I recognize the game they hate me because I can't get pressured from any side. Because I give all sides what they ask for in a creative problem solving way. I am here to tell you that most people in education don't approach anything like this. Teachers want to teach...like they were taught and administrators want to show improvement on metrics and low problems with discipline. True learning isn't focused on because it can't be put in a number metric with the methods they use. So I let students do what they do best

Hey Doug, your videos are fantastic and inspiring. Can you please help me understand how this course will be different than the KZbin videos you have under sketchnote school? I am really looking forward for information such as duration, modules etc.

Hi Nilesh, I'd say the courses stand out for two reasons: 1) they're comprehensive and walk you step by step through the skill-development process (in contrast to videos here, which are more of a grab bag approach) and 2) you're able to share your work along the way and get feedback from me and other course participants. On the description page of each course you'll be able to see the full course outline. Click on the course title under the "What You'll Get" section to see that. Hope that's helpful!
