Super excited to see this video. This is a game that I've really been wanting to get back into. It was the last "new CCG" that I bought into and it came out right when I was really getting into reading comics. I worked as a camp counselor for a couple of consecutive summers and my campers and I really got into playing it, though pretty casually.

You mentioned that Vs. fixed all the annoying things about mana, but forgot the most important fix. Vs. has NO SUMMONING SICKNESS! The two biggest annoyances with Magic were the resources and summoning sickness. Vs. eliminates the need for summoning sickness with its two-row formations and the addition of reinforcement as a mechanic. Reinforcement and team attacking requiring a matching team also forced players not to mix too many teams together (which fixed the issue caused by removing color from the resources). All-in-all it was really quite genius. The only con to Vs. was the power creep of later sets. This is common in many card games, and Vs. was not immune to it. In fact the Vs. community usually doesn't even allow the use of the final set (Marvel Evolutions) in most of its tournaments because it went too far in all aspects. But if you play from Marvel/DC Origins to Marvel/DC Legends, it's a pretty balanced card pool.

BPRD Vs. Thule Society was the starter mentioned above. It has pros and cons as a starter. Pro: The two teams play well against each other, the rulebook is good, and the two starter decks can be mashed together to make a middling entry-level deck to play against others who have larger collections. Con: It has a lot of mechanics that may overwhelm new players (+1/+1 counters, returning characters to hand to put effects on the chain, concealed, reservist, leader, concealed-optional, search cards, evasion, alternate win conditions, cards that reference needing the opposite team in your deck-which won't be the case starting off, etc.) . I still recommend it as a jumping-off point for a collection as you can make a decent 60-card deck out of the two starters combined. Other starter decks do a better job of teaching the game, but their cards are absolutely worthless once you know how to play. Copies still in shrink wrap can be found for $35-50 on ebay.

It was called Vs. System because they were going to bring in other IP's to fight against each other. Started with Marvel, added DC, and had one Darkhorse mini-expansion.

I collected a lot of VS System when it first came out. I never played the game. I’m looking forward to seeing the future content about this game.

I would comment on this all the time when the game was being made, it needed more starter decks! Magic was doing all these pre-con decks around that time and VS just basically put out a few here and there but should have had a starter for every set based on the teams in those sets. There were a lot of short-sighted things like that that UD just never overcame in VS or WOW.

VS System was and still is the best CCG I ever played I even started after it was techincally dead but still had a community. It was so good it almost has ruined other CCGs for me. No Mana screw, Awesome Characters, DRAW 2 cards, No Summoning sickness! They did everything right. Then they screwed us fans when they put out vs system 2pcg which is NOTHING like the original and nowhere near as fun.
