warcraft has a vast and mysterious lore that can compete with the vastest of stories out there dude, with lots of lovecraftian horror attached to it. there are like +40 books and comics and in-game lore which is really interesting. world of warcraft has a massive fan base mostly because of the story, and partly for the gameplay. I hope you say ain't my thing after reading a few of the books and not just judging by the cover. the games looks kinda cartoonish because they don't want it to be +18, but the story is needs a mature mind to understand why it's attractive.

So, I love this channel. It's like my favorite thing to listen to at work. I'm always excited to come to work and have a new episode to listen to usually Monday mornings. I started playing WoW just before Christmas of 2008, right after Wrath of the Lich King, after seeing the Mr. T "Night Elf Mohawk" commercial. I played until right before Battle for Azeroth which I had planned to buy but got bored and took a "break." Now I feel like I'm free from the addiction so I won't go back, lol. I do still love the lore and all. I will say that I look forward to any more videos about Warcraft lore (I should mention that I do own Warcraft III but I'm just not much for RTS games. I did however spend a lot of time reading about what happens in those games, and watched videos of playthroughs to get a good idea of what happened). I just want to say in closing that anyone who sees this video and wants to get into the lore, I don't want to steer you away from this channel because it's a great channel... but there is no substitute for jumping into the game and finding things out for yourself. It's an amazing experience to start your first character and open up the world yourself. So if you're considering starting the game, and looking for these types of videos to get you started, consider at least going through the beginnings of the game, then coming back to these videos. It might seem backward, but man... The feeling I got when I left Teldrassil, and got to Auberdine... And realized that what I considered a massive area with a giant city... was NOTHING when I saw how much of the map was undiscovered.

It began because Blizzard wanted to make a Warhammer Fantasy RTS and Games Workshop said no, so they made their own *basically kinda* Warhammer Fantasy, and then just started throwing everything else ever into it. *Note* that the Warcraft Chronicles series revamped part of the original lore, and Classic takes place prior to these changes. For instance, back then it was cannon that troggs and dwarves were related (as per the quest in Uldaman), though not as of Chronicles. Undeath could be cured as well (as per the Corrupted Ashbringer event), which was later retconned. In other words, the lore found in the Chronicles series does not always coincide with Classic. However, much Chronicles still rings true. It's a good time to remember that at this point in time in the lore-development, Pandaren are more cannon than humanity's vrykul ancestry. That's not to say that one cannot play Classic with the Chronicles lore - in fact it might enhance the experience for some - but it is something to be kept in mind when interacting with some of the more obscure NPCs or reading some of the then cannon lore.
@NicholasBrakespear5 жыл бұрын
Glad somebody pointed this out. The later retcons were quite extensive (BC alone managed to retcon the entire franchise to revolve around space goats, retroactively). Classic WoW's actual lore, in terms of what is present in the game and in the quests, is really just... Warcraft 3. That was the point of the game - it was the world left in the aftermath of Warcraft 3.

@joels51505 жыл бұрын
A couple corrections 1. The orcs never called their home planet Draenor, it was naturally the Draenei who named it. 2. When Ner’Zhul was turned into the Lich King, his body had been disintegrated and his soul was encased into the empty set of armor, so he never actually sat upon the Frozen Throne, until Arthas put on the Helm of Domination and they merged.

It really bums me out the ways they retconned the lore with the Chronicles books. Originally, Kil'jaeden didn't whisper to Gul'dan, but rather spoke to Ner'zhul in the guise of his dead wife. The orcs' campaign of genocide was sparked by misplaced trust and paranoia, not outright evil. Gul'dan was Ner'zhul's apprentice, and took control after Ner'zhul faltered upon learning the truth. Also the whole "sacrificing all the draenei prisoners" thing. The portal was opened with the sacrifice of a single draenei child, a pure life. These might have been retconned out of Warcraft canon now, but by the time vanilla was written they had not.
