A floating artificial island built in Mexico by British artist Richart "Rishi" Sowa. He's first Island was destroyed by a hurricane in 2005; a replacement, Joyxee Island, has been open for tours since 2008.
In the waters of Isla Mujeres, the "Island of Women", near Cancun. It opened for tours in August, 2008.
The new island was initially 20 metres (66 ft) in diameter, which has since expanded to 25 metres (82 ft), and plants and mangroves are already growing on it. It contains about 100,000 bottles. The new island has three beaches, a house, two ponds, a solar-powered waterfall and river, a wave-powered washing machine and solar panels. Volunteers helped with the project. Sowa will continue to make improvements to the Island, so it will always be a work of art in progress.

He makes a little bit of money for his tour. Its not much. Its interesting. Its educational. And if people are willing to pay in exchange for an experience, how is that any different than paying a few bucks to go to a museum or a park? (Even free parks often have parking fees) Rather than funding,, he asks people for trash at the end 😂 in his beautiful little song lol

@samekogan
@samekogan 8 жыл бұрын
+Xaiano I just don't think you understand nor see the brilliant resourcefulness this man posses. you think you're headed up the hill? this guy has shit figured out once the engine breaks down and causes your vehicle to roll down backwards. this is using his surroundings to its fullest and finest. if you can't see that now then maybe you never will and that's fine. but it's amazing that you cant.
@xaiano794
@xaiano794 8 жыл бұрын
Sam kogan Don't you see the folly in your own statement? You say 'once it breaks down' - and go on to state that it is THEN that his work would surpass my 'machine', but that statement infers that PRIOR to it breaking down, my 'machine' is most definitely superior and furthermore that there is only a chance of it failing at some unspecified point in the future. Therefore, given a choice between guaranteed inferiority now, or possible inferiority after an uncertain amount of time, it is obvious that your 'free person' is always the lesser choice.

You are completely wrong! For everyone saying that this man is a genus, solved mankind's problem for a sustainable development, or that he is making huge leaps forward in to our future...... you're completely wrong. What is sustainable about having a house made of "PLASTIC" and "Garbage". Did you guys not go to school? Garbage in our ocean is not sustainable, but in fact destroys our environment, the worst being PLASTIC! It slowly disintegrates in to microscopic pieces of plastic, which fish then eat/breath/absorb and it is one of the worst problems we have with our ocean right now. You do not want plastic in our water guys!!!! How is everyone so blind? Yeah it looked cool..... Don't be fooled by the visual aesthetics, this place is horrible for the environment and everyone who thinks this is a "Genius" idea, is either blind, ignorant, voted for Trump, or perhaps all of the above. He'd get about 10 minutes on his Island in the U.S. before some environmental agency would put an end to it. What he needs is a grant to go to the middle of the Paciific (the garbage patch), and build there were materials would never be a problem. Perhaps semi melt the plastic into float able cubes in a form design to interlock. He would have enough material to build his own floating continent. People could volunteer to assist in the cleanup/build as a vacation spot in the South Seas on a budget.

I'm not sure he meant a literal giant tornado. But the flight was more or less a joke, unless he was speaking of little gliding with a light enough island, and enough lift, it'd be more like a hop than a flight. but making your own tornado is entirely possible if you set it up correctly, as hot air rises rapidly, cold air will rush in, the trick to making your own mini-tornado is finding a method to control how the cold air flows down again. the hot air would have to be REALLY hot however.

I love the way he thinks, its innovative. People saying he's crazy fail to realize there's a lot to learn from him. For one, he obviously doesnt care what you think. He built his own island with nature in his best interest, how many of you have done that? Second, he's going to focus on the positivity like he said, so any negative comments aren't a true reflection of him, but a reflection of you. Free your mind, stop being a slave to what others think, and life will be so much different.

@Aron Speedy Yeah... doubtful on the flying part. A thunderstorm able to make even a weak tornado able to lift a house requires more energy than a nuclear bomb. Moving a wind turbine would be on the order of a small dust devil, which is feasible. To make a large tornado artificially would be near impossible, much less controlling it.

I actually though he was planning on a wind turbine right up until he said fly the island... At which point I lost it

Also, hurricanes create gold as an after effect. Just a tid bit. A brilliant man once went on shark tank, and proved it's possible. They laughed at him it was too expensive....and couldn't be regulated enough to ensure a return. I don't believe it though. How the duck else did all the gold in the world turn up and continues to turn up....crazy past weather storms for hundreds of millions of years

@@cerebral3591the plastic reservoirs underneath the island must simply be filled with a lifting gas and the reservoirs must come to points where they meet the ocean's surface with very little friction as a spiral shaped heptamaran or pentamaran. Light potting soil type amendments, or even hydroponic or aeroponic type mediums must be used as much as possible to save weight, etc.
