Thank you for this beautiful retelling of my Grandfather's story. My father was the only child Tom had to my Cook Island Grandmother, she was from Atiu Ariki family. The only time I ever saw Tom was on his death bed. My father, although he wanted nothing to do with Tom, because Tom adopted him out to his friend in New zealand, did eventually go and see Tom in Suvarow. My Father returned to Rarotonga from New Zealand as soon as he was able (he was 19) and married a Cook Island princess from Mauke (Ariki Tararo). My father passed 'lost at sea' 2 years before Tom. Tom requested to see us, his grandchildren (5), just before he died. I was five at the time, but the memory has never faded. Mother said Dad went to see Tom to make peace with him, but he never spoke of Tom after that visit, but mum did say, Tom was proud of his son.

I spent eight years on pacific Islands before my health problem took me back. And that was about 30 years ago so I enjoy watching you tube video's on this subject. I brought home a wife and our two children. It is fun if one is healthy enough.

How do I know if I'm a direct descendant of William Masters.....a Great grandson. I am the first born of the first born of the firstborn, John Masters who came from England to Canada over a hundred years ago. Has anyone on the Island had their DNA sample taken to compare for such a question as this? I started construction of 6.5 ft long plastic sail boat last month for a sunny beach a mile from here. Sunnybrae BC Canada. Have great times gang.

Another great adventure, Jon. Not sure how much of this was serendipity, and how much was engineered by you. I think you're being very modest and you've, probably, made your own 'luck'. Only one more of your videos to watch now, so you'd better get a shake on and get out there again! Anyway, you've renewed my enthusiasm to have an adventure of my own. I would have done this year, but then COVID got in the bloody way and ruined my plans. Hopefully we can all travel again next year.

The closest I got to this was several days on Comoties Island in Ormoc Bay Leyte Philippines with my first wife. You had a Superb time and it shows in your film. My next adventure was to do bits of China with Lily from deepest Sichuan. Girl from the mountains as she describes herself. Met my Cousins future wife in the same home town. Did 3 months there in 2017. Even got to stand in Tibet for an hour, another bit of the Yangsei conquered. D & L.

The idea of spending a month on an island by yourself sounds awesome. The reality of having to shit in the woods, then rinse in sea water, having to make a fire before every hot meal, sleeping on a cushy bed of grass no sheets or blankets, those natural desires of most men having to rely on fantasies and rosy are just a few reasons a week max on the island would probably be enough, never mind that at some point we all have to face the realities if life in the real world. Ive learned to create my own "island", when i need to get away. In my room and warm bed I close the door, off goes the phone. A good book can take me far away where dreams fill me with wonder. And when Im ready, I open the front door where a world awaits me on the other side.
