An island without CARS!! Our Lake Michigan Road Trip to Mackinac Island, Charlevoix & Petoskey!

This is Part 2 of our North Michigan Road Trip. We were invited to visit Mackinac Island where vehicles have been banned for more than a century; the city of Charlevoix with its Mushroom Houses; braved the Skybridge at Boyne Mountain; and followed in Ernest Hemingway's path in Petoskey.

Pro-tip. When going to mackinac island, use the st. Ignace port. The crowds are much smaller, including no line to get in the parking lot.

Mackinac Island was one of my mom's favorite places. She always said I needed to go there. I'll definitely put it on my bucket list now after watching your video. 🥰

If you ever get the chance y'all should try and check out a bit of the UP! It is right over the Mackinac bridge and is WAYY more sparsely populated and rural, has some of the most scenic views in all of NA and is on 3 great lakes. Some cools cities of mention are Marquette, Muinising, Houghton, Copper Harbor, Escanaba, and Manistique. I'm personally biased towards Marquette myself, but you really cannot go wrong with either of them. Truly quintessential micropolitan America but in a very unique setting. Best visited in the summer or fall.

Great video Mackinac island is amazing. I go with my friend every summer. And when I was younger this was one of are family vacations. Such a unique place. Also that new bridge in boyne I honestly didn’t know anything about. I need to go there now. All the kids did great crossing! I’d be a little afraid to.

We LOVED Mackinac Island and want to go back!! One day was not enough to see it all. It’s great that you still love it!! Give the bridge a go. It’s good fun and a nice little challenge. The kids were great. I didn’t think Sam would do it at all - she was so nervous in the car. Let us know how you get on, if you choose to do it!

Its a shame you did not get over the bridge to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to see the many waterfalls like Tahquamenon, Kitch-iti-kipi Spring, Picture Rocks, the Copper Mines, or the Porcupine Mountains. However, I am glad to see you enjoy where I live :D

You are so right!!! We've heard lots about the Upper Peninsula too!! Hopefully, we'll get to experience that one day, so thank you for your suggestions!! I hope you realise how lucky you are to live where you are. How is it in the winter though?!!

@@LifeOfReillyTV when you grow up with it you find it normal, it's a bit of shock for people from warm climates though 😆 For years now we have not really had a bad winter like when I was a kid (look into the 1978 Blizzard) as far as snowfall and everything. Snowfall at any one time these days really never goes over like 2ft. It does still get a lot colder than most other places (was around -20 Fahrenheit during the polar vortex) , but as long as you dress appropriately in winter clothing, you can easily enjoy one of the best times in this state and all it's natural beauty. Ice climbing, snow mobiling, snow showing, horse drawn sleighs, etc. If you are big into Christmas, it's one of the best places to be for it... We even have one of the largest Christmas stores in the world here in Frankenmuth (which is a German settlement that keeps its Bavarian charm). There is also the town of Christmas in the Upper Peninsula (and the town of Hell in the Lower Peninsula 😆). It will take some time to get used to driving in the winter here though where snowfall can cover road markers and all that.

Wow!!! That sounds like a real experience!!! I'd love to do Christmas there - that sounds amazing!!! You really deserve the amazing summers after those winters!!! Love it!!
