An Italian Tries Food Across America | USA Road Trip - Part 1
I have a bad habit of torturing my Italian wife, Eva, with the worst of American food. To make it up to her, I'm taking her on a coast-to-coast road trip across the USA to sample the best (I hope) of American food.
In Part 1, we try street tacos in California, chile verde dishes in Arizona and New Mexico, and good ol' American steak in Texas. Subscribe to our channel and turn on notifications as we'll be posting Part 2 very soon!
What did we miss? Let us know in the comments below what dishes we should try the next time we're in the southwest.
If you enjoyed this video, please give it a thumbs-up and subscribe!

Interestung that the enchiladas and chile relleno came from Mexico but transformed in the south of us. Its not made like the original thou not as raw neither is the texture the same. We dont put yellow cheese on most mexican food and a few things on those dishes were twisted...

probably she's from Calabria, "the tip of the boot". I'm from northern Italy and her accent to me sounds like either Sicilian either Calabrian. When she said "I come from the Mexico of Italy", referring to the spicy cuisine, it's definetly Calabria. They have a really really spicy cuisine there. I love it!

Let's be honest - most American food that "pretends to be" isn't very good in the first place. The Olive Garden is no more Italian than Taco Bell is Mexican. Good food is good food, period. Processed/mass produced/packaged crap, from any culture, is not going to be great, and for people used to eating real food, will probably be disgusting. She probably wouldn't like a frozen pre-packaged Walmart burger patty either, but I'm sure anyone would enjoy a freshly ground AAA sirlion burger. A better question is why North Americans have become so used to prepackaged/processed crap that they've become tolerant and accepting of its tastes. Is it because real, fresh food costs so much more here than in Europe?

Fun facts: Mexican cuisine, being a mix of native tradition and Spanish influence shares interesting similarities with Southern Italian cooking. Italians have much respect and curiosity for Mexican cuisine although we have a hard time finding original Mexican food in Italy, and when we do it's really expensive. Bistecca is an "italianized" loan word derived from the English "beef steak" as Italians never did eat much of it at all. The Chianina beef race known for the Fiorentina steak was a draft animal until the late 1800 (and the largest domestic bovine race). As a matter of fact the only places in Italy with any tradition for proper beef steaks are Piemonte and Tuscany, due to French, English and American influences. Old nonnas from the South of Italy never eat rare beef and have the tragic tendency to prepare thin overcooked shoe soles when you ask them for a steak. Hence better to opt for breaded or chuck steaks when in the South.
@DonVoghano
@DonVoghano 4 жыл бұрын
@Stuart Riley Well Italy is divided into 3 macro-regions, North, Center and South. In the South eating rare meat is not very common even today. In the Center and North it is a lot more common, but mostly a 20th century thing. Interestingly, while Southerners are generally squeamish about raw meat, in the city of Bari in the deep South East they have a tradition of eating raw seafood. Carpaccio is NOT originally from Bologna, it's from Venice, adapted from an older Piemontese dish: as mentioned they are the original beef experts in Italy. Still you are quite right that Bologna is the main bastion of North Italian cuisine, although historically they would focus on milk cows for cheese and not beef meat, preferring pork for which they have a tradition that predates the ancient Romans.

It really is. I grew up in Tennessee and had barbecue from all around. North Carolina pork is my favorite, but Texas is bomb too. I grew up with more pork so I love it the best. I do a Texas style brisket more now since I live in Wyoming and we have a lot of good beef here.

There is a Navaho and a Ute place in Salt lake . Soooo goood. The grannies there came out to see who was eating all this Navaho food. A little White Norwegian American gal. The said you are our new granddaughter.. come visit. I went back 6 months late and got a scolding. So I went back to visit say hi. They put me to work making fry bread. I brought some deer ( as in half a deer) a big dear. They had me come back in a week or 2 so that the boys could break the dear down and it could age a little. We got there and there was an address for us to go to. It was in the mountains. They had a family pow wow for us. my grannies wouldn’t let me help. The dads wouldn’t let my husband do anything. We were pregnant with our son. The women did a dance for me and gave my body a blessing. It was just the women. It was lovely. All that to say... the food was soooooo good.

Jura Gneiss sure. I have had both the worst and the best food of my life in venice. and both some of the best and surely the most mediocre food in london. my point was that in some countries there seems to be a generally higher culture of quality. and I don’t necessarily mean rich countries...

@@supertobino Totally agree. In my opinion, in some countries food is used to, well, feed the body and they don't even try to brag about their gastronomy. In some other countries, food is like a religion, it's a part of the history, it's a passion and people tend to be very picky about it. I don't say it to offend anyone, it's just my personal experiences in different countries.
