I'm glad you listened to me when I said at the screen "Don't forget to test the new chips before you install them!"

im really tight it seems.. i didnt have kapton tape and didnt want to buy any... so i just used kitchen foil ! Folded twice for quad thickness, it works really well and can be moulded around plastic connectors to protect them

Fun video! I will solder my ByteDelight test cartridge this weekend and use it on my two Spectrums with corrupted video output, and I will no doubt find out that faulty RAM ICs are the cause of the problems...

I'm offended the extra unnecessary mooooooo!! at the end was not required. LMAO awesome video as always Lee :)...

The great thing about a thermal camera is that if a component is abnormally hot then it will drown out the components with normal temperatures. So the whole screen will be blue or darker and the faulty component(s) the only orange on screen.

I agree, I often wonder about diluting my content by filming myself fixing other random items, but I just enjoy it.

You make the random a feature though!

My +2A from my childhood which I haven't seen let alone used in about 22 years was dying in it's final years of use games did work but do the build in tester it crashed on the ram checks. but it still worked for a few years until I left home and tested it about 3 years later and just got a blank screen, and I had a ZX81 that just gave the borders as if it had no bios. I wish I can find them to test them as they should be repairable.

Your videos are calming to watch and I have learned a few things. Glad you're doing a bit better Lee.

Hi Lee, just some info on the 6K board. Only 20k of these were produced before the 6U took over. So almost in the issue 1 ZX Spectrum gang.

Ah nice one Colin. Great info

You still needed to replace those other two RAM chips, though, right?

All three faulty chips were replaced

Even if you have sensitive fingers it's still a very hit and miss method beacause there are still many variables. The thermal camera is a good Idea even if even that isnt 100% either.

Yet another great video!! I agree about test carts. Sometimes, you just need to use an oscilloscope. Thanks for sharing

Hi. What thermal camera are you using?

🐄🐄🐄How are you getting on with the new moo?🐄🐄🐄
@MoreFunMakingIt8 ай бұрын
It's getting better and better. No noise is amazing. Quick to heat up, easy to use. I needed to remove 8 sockets from an Oric 1 yesterday, something I'd been putting off before, and it was an absolute breeze. My only negative is the temperature control wheel. Just have to get into the habit of checking I've not left it on 450C. Also would much prefer the lowest setting to be cooler than 350. For those extra delicate issue 2 Spectrums

Nice fix Lee,, I'm still undecided which ddsoldering gun to get.
@MoreFunMakingIt8 ай бұрын
Totally depends on how much you're likely to use it. And even then there's a very good case for the cheaper one.
