What an end to a chapter! Sears was once was the place to go. The tallest building on earth for over 20 years. Custom draperies. Carpets. Prom rentals. Real estate, home and auto insurance. its own cafeteria at most stores, farm equipment, auto service (tires, batteries, repair). You could not own a home in the 1950's - 1980's without having a SEARS credit card to buy appliances, furnaces, roofing & siding. Then there was Lands End. K-Mart. Eaton's (Canada). Caldwell Banker. Once the largest store in the world, and the largest catalog center operation before AMAZON. A combined 355,000 employees and more than 3,500 stores as late as 2006. RIP

Sears was also the founder of Discover Financial Services. So when you use your Discover Credit card, think of how the card was started.

@@ericknoblauch9195 that's such a great point. It's ironic that I probably used my Discover card at Sears only once or twice in the 15 years that I've been charging with it. 🤷

I live in a Sears Home. There were many of them...different models. You would select the model and trucks would come to your site and drop off all the parts/pieces. They stopped selling them in 1942. There are 70000 of them across the country.

My father served in the Korean War conflict. He told me that Sears gave him his first credit card back then due to the fact that he was serving his country. He was able to establish a credit history because of Sears. Try doing that today at either Kmart or Sears. Many department store and retailers credit cards are not that easy to get today. A real shame of what Lampbert, and Kmart did to Sears.

My son walked off from me at this Sears in 1983, I was frantic, he had walked over to play on the exercise bikes. I'm thankful God let me find him.

The Sears Catalog. Specifically...the Sears Christmas Catalog. Who remembers that? It was like an early version of the internet....for kids. Every toy you could imagine was in there. All in one place. And we got to thumb thru it endlessly....picking out what we wanted for Christmas. Anyone else?

It was all a plan to get control of their assets and real estate by a greedy hedge fund Investor. What once was one of the most cash rich companies in The United States of America has been robbed, and is now cash poor struggling to survive. Unbelievable. Many people thought they would never go out of business.

That is pitiful. Think they have enough of those puffer jackets? Looks like they spread them out over 30% of the store. I don't think most Americans can walk into a Sears store anymore as there are only a handful left.

There are still hundreds of Sears hometown stores. Hometown stores are not owned not by corporate but by employees.

@@Mystovods And Sears Hometown stores just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy yesterday. Those aren't money makers either unfortunately.

According to CNN, there's a total of 15 Sears retail stores. The spinoff "Sears Hometown" stores just filed for bankruptcy. This is basically it for them.

@@Mystovods : They filed for bankruptcy and will be liquid. The "go forward plan" was numerous small Hometown Stores and a few "premium" stores; now, unfortunately, that is not going to work. I work for Sears and do not expect any stores to survive long.

So, 19 Sears are still open. 3 Kmarts are still open. We'll the Miami one seems to be closing at some point soon. I was very surprised to see how much merchandise New York and New jerseys stores have, even crowds of shoppers.

Final Christmas for Sears & K-Mart slow painful death. The Sears at Crossroads Mall in Kazoo closed in fall of 19 and the Sears at Rivertown in GR closed in early 21.

Sears won't make it out of 2023, not brick and mortar anyway. The recession is going to take out a lot of stores this year. Wow, look how spread out the racks are. I remember a time you had to squeeze between racks and always seem to knock something off a hanger. Not a problem anymore.

It is black friday. Black friday is supposed to be one of the busiest shopping days for retailers. Where are the customers? Fast Eddy Lampert has chased all the customers away. Years ago, I remember black friday at Sears. The stores were jammed packed for many years. Eddy has destroyed Sears and Kmart. Sears once owned Orchard Supply Hardware. Orchard was destroyed too. Then Orchard Supply Hardware was sold to Lowes. A few years later all Orchard Supply Hardware stores were closed. Another retail company has bought from Lowes the property rights to Orchard Supply Hardware, and has reopened the stores. Now they are called Outdoor Supply Hardware. Also Ames Department Stores is coming back after 20 years of being closed. Maybe someone can buy the property rights to Sears and do the same, and get it out of fast Eddys control.
