Elder millennial here: You were the first KZbinr I ever subscribed to. I was trying to learn how to do fishtail braids and found your channel. I quickly got super into doing all kinds of braids because of your tutorials. Watching your content shift over the years has been a lot of fun. I think as long as you follow your interests and passions, you'll be alright Loepsie!

As an 18 year old with friends who follow you, i can safely say that your videos are wonderful and entertaining for younger audiences as well as older. I have been watching since i was 14 and your videos bring me so much joy! You inspired me to pick up sewing and i am called the "hair stylist" in my friend group because of you:) Thank you!

I must say that I have enjoyed your transition from hair tutorials to decor, gardening and sewing. I think your pure pleasure in what ever task you are doing makes you enjoyable to watch. Also, you were very gracious in answering such a personal question as having children. I feel that is such a deeply personal question, but you are so lovely in explaining your answer. You have what my 60 year old self would call natural grace. It is lovely to watch.❤

I know the algorithm can be cruel, but i really hope you keep doing KZbin! I've been watching every video you put out for years - I think I found you back when you were still doing Celtic studies. You are by far my favorite person on KZbin, because you feel like such a kindred spirit. I know we only get to see the parts of you that you choose to share with the internet, but your personality and style really shine through in everything you do!

One of my pet peeves is people trying to guess if someone is pregnant, asking if they are or assuming they are. So glad you said something about that!

Totally agree. Really appreciate that you wish to keep some things private. I can’t have children and it’s been horrible going through to my late forties with random strangers occasionally just asking ‘oh do you have kids’ and not realising it feels like a stab in the heart each time. I know for a lot of fans, especially younger ones, asking and speculating about their heroes lives is fun and exciting, but they don’t understand that sometimes there’s bucket loads of pain behind the scenes. And even if there is not, having children can be terrifying and sometimes people just need that side of things to be a bit private regardless of what is happening or not happening.

@@dees3179 - I don't know if this will help, but for me, it's gotten easier in many ways. I had a hysterectomy at 41, so my train stopped for good then. I am lucky to have a niece who loves me and has 3 daughters of her own plus a bonus daughter. And I'm a great aunty who is more like a grandmother. Talk to professional. It will help you come to terms with everything. Big hugs.

@@dees3179People shouldn't have to walk on eggshells either. Most people do have children. Most people are or have been married. It's just easy conversation for most. It's not serious or nosy. It once was easy to assume when someone was pregnant before the current obesity epidemic. People were right in most cases. Due to social media, most lives are only somewhat private. Many publicize most things. Privacy is no longer the norm. Most people don't mean to be rude. As much as it hurts to touch upon different topics that hurt or offend us, we decide how we respond (if we respond at all).

I have to say, Lucy, you’re doing great work. During the pandemic, KZbinrs like you and Rachel Maksy and Bernadette Banner kept me going (with a lot of Animal Crossing). I get anxiety, too, and I’m 53. You learn to work through it. Some of your videos just about life in the Netherlands are amazing to me.

@@KimomoDragon What I learned in therapy is to identify what your ‘tell signs’ are that you’re starting to feel anxious. For me, I find myself wringing my hands or rubbing my hands on my legs. When you notice that: what are you doing or thinking which is causing that? Try to mitigate the source as much as possible. If you can’t, try ‘4 Square Breathing.’ That also helps. I’m not a therapist, but that’s worked for me. I’m also a believer in herbal tea, sitting outside in the sun, and putting an ASMR on the TV if going out isn’t an option. Hope that helps.

@@Christina_Paz I have seen Abby Cox refer to Lucy’s videos before. And once Rachel and Bernadette did a series of videos with Morgan Donner. I think there are definitely more ‘geographic’ boundaries than intentional exclusion. It would be cool to see Lucy and Morgan do linked videos.

I think you are the KZbinr I watch the longest because you are the only one of the ones I used to watch that is still around!! Even though I find it quite sad that so much of the older content has been deleted, i am grateful that you don't delete the whole channel and stand by yourself and your past what the others didn't because it is clear that ppl change and develop, there is nothing to be ashamed about. I think I would be really sad if you gave up on this channel because it really is a constant in my life as well, like a show you watch over the years or a book you don't want to put away before the end. And, believe me or not, those older videos have been a comfort for me all through the pandemic, which was really a burden for me, speaking of anxiety (and I still highly appreciate it that the content around that time wasn't pandemic-oriented and neutral) and made me at least pretend it were happier times. Of course, one can say, there are plenty other channels to watch, no matter if you are into beauty or hair or vintage or fantasy or whatever. But I would say: There maybe channels with similar content, but there is only one Loepsie! And I think you have a very loyal community, that, even if not everyone is growing WITH you, they appreciate YOUR growing, like I do. Concerning jobs, wasn't there a make-up artist license once and could that still be an option? And if you ever decide to quit and pursue other goals in life, I would deeply request you to leave as much of your videos to the world as possible because also future generation should at least have the opportunity to recreate LOTR hairstyles properly!! 😊😅

I identified a lot with what you said. I absolutely understand the part of not knowing how to sell yourself. I'm very good at selling others (their skills) and getting them jobs and guiding them, but I'm not so good for myself. Don't stop doing KZbin, find a manager who can help you get more sponsorships and think about what is it you can offer to your followers because we are your potential and most certain customers. Think about Patron, and affiliating with a company to make a collection with your name. Start working on branding within the things you like and enjoy doing. It can be jewelry, makeup, fabrics, teas, etc. Something from the sustainable family. Also, make videos that would be tutorials you can sell (skillshare, udemy, your own website, etc.) in any skill you have. Sewing, gardening, home decoration, anything you have a passion for.

Fellow millennial here. I relate to the sentiment that the standards of living have changed so much over the course of our lives, it's very hard to achieve the sort of comfortable, "middle class" life I imagined/expected to have as an adult. In spite of working hard my life as an adult is quite modest. You are 100% correct that gratitude for what we do have really helps.

Hearing you mention the pandemic is honestly so relatable. It affected me too a lot. So much happened internally/emotionally for me but at the same nothing outside in my life changed much and it almost feels like i did nothing for two years of my life. But my friends don't really talk about it so hearing someone mention the negative ways in which they were affected makes me feel better. I look forward to watching you on KZbin for however long you continue. I wish you prosperity and that the algorithm works in your favor ❤ also throwback to the sock bun secret eyyyyo 😂 i started watching you bc I too wanted to grow my hair and was looking for heatless hairstyles. Which btw my hair has been above my shoulders for maybe 5 years now so i never did grow it out too much and i recently just bleached all of it too so my hair preferences have changed as well 😂 thank you for your content and all your hard work!

I don’t think it’s silly at all to speak on this - it’s actually refreshing and appreciated to have that type of honesty - even though at this point KZbin has been around for a long time there is still a mystery of how people are able to make a living/continue to make a living and what happens if things change? I am the same as you in terms of not being good at selling myself. I used to make KZbin videos but could never niche down, my adhd brain can’t do that 😅 but I also just have never been good at “selling” myself and I don’t like feeling like I NEED to. (And yet now I am in a career where it’s like that and it’s hard!) It’s good to know what you are worried about because I think as viewers we can forget that our activity on videos matter so much. I tend to think my comments will never be read or matter so I don’t do so often, but it’s a good remember that commenting helps boost videos to be seen. I am glad to know you will be around in some capacity if anything changes but hopefully this can continue to provide for you ♥️ ♥️ ♥️

One of the reasons I’ve been subscribed to you for so long is I’ve felt such a kinship with you from the beginning: I was a nerdy LOTR teen who enjoyed costuming and things like that. I’m American, but my dad’s family is Dutch and we lived in the Netherlands for a while when I was a kid, so I get such a thrill when you talk about life in what I feel is my second home. Early on when I started watching you I was like “Heyyy, I recognize that accent!” and was super excited to find out you were Dutch. I love your channel and your homeowner/gardening content is especially relevant to me right now as my husband and I bought a house just a few months before you and Robbert did. Your garden is basically my fantasy (we live in a desert so it’s impossible for me to do what I really want), it’s so lush and green. Anyway, this is all parasocial stuff, but I just wanted to say that you’ve got a friend in the western US. Thanks for what you do! (Also being a mom is the coolest thing ever - obviously a super personal decision, but I absolutely love parenthood!)

I relate so much to the struggle of attaining home Ownership and the anxiety and insecurity that renting as an adult can bring. I was also hesitant to have children for so many reasons, but finally chose to have one and not put our dreams for a family on hold any longer, waiting for the stars to align. It’s been awesome. I hope you continue to reach your goals and be a wonderful presence here in YT for years to come. ❤

Take care. 💕 i remember the tutorial you did when you curled your hair with chop sticks!!! 😊

The pandemic felt like just one decade long big traumatic suck fest. And it came on the tails of a job loss for me... And it just felt like it never stopped... Im just now starting to feel like I have a handle on life but every little stressor seems to give me so much anxiety that it feels like some days I just can't.

I guess I've been subscribed for maybe 6ish years... Maybe longer. I remember when you cut your bangs and I just looked and that video is 6 years old. Wow!! I'm 30 now and remeber watching in college too, so definitely more than 6 years ago. I think since the Faux Bob tutorial!! So 8ish years... Wow!! I always felt like your hair videos were perfect for me, I feel like we have VERY similar texture and volume, so your videos have been very helpful. I'm a housewife right now, and I can also relate to "not being able to sell myself" and would also love to go into starting a small business... Cutrently trying to get my book published... So there's that. KZbin is definitely a lot of work and I applaud you for all your content!!

So sad about your rats! It’s horrible to lose pets. I had that problem with hamsters growing up. As far as children goes that is a frustrating question. It not really anyone's business. You take care of you and your husband, and if you decide to have children and share that's up to you. My only advice would be just know what you want so you have the time. I personally had a situation where i waited longer than i would have wanted. So now i feel a bit rushed. Im pregnant with my first at 37. So ive been a little stressed because of my age. However ive been blessed so far to have no real problems. Good luck whatever you decide. This was a fun video.

You were one of my first KZbinrs I followed way back in the day with the old hair tutorials, so I've been so happy to always see your work when it comes up for me. As for the pets, your reason for not getting any right now is exactly why I have held off. Growing up, I had a little dog who was my bestie for 18 years, and the day I saw him fall in the yard and not be able to get up was the worst heartbreak of my life as we then had to put him down that afternoon. To this day, it's not a heartbreak I want to experience again. As much as I love animals and would love to have one again, that heartbreak is still so deep all these years later that, it's easier to reminisce and look back on what was good, as opposed to worrying and fearing the inevitable of a new love.

Now I'm older I'm interested in gardening and low-impact living/rejecting consumerism/DIY-ing what I can/crochet etc so I've loved that transition in your content :) I hope you keep making videos for as long as you enjoy doing so!

Lucy, you’re such a genuine, down-to-earth person, which makes you really easy to relate to. I first found your channel from your historical hair series and that was my main interest, but I like to check in now and then to see what you’re up to! I’m so glad you guys are feeling settled and peaceful in your house! Hi, Loepsi - Actually, "canal" is the PERFECT word to describe the little waterway behind your lovely home. I'm from New Orleans, Louisiana (USA), another city that is built below sea level. As you know, if you're below sea level, there will be LOTS of water, and you will need a way to pump or drain it out. So there are myriad canals running all throughout the Greater New Orleans area that serve just that purpose and no other. They are not meant for swimming or recreation of any kind, including fishing. It's just a place for the water to go so the city doesn't drown. One of the main streets in Downtown New Orleans is actually named Canal Street! New Orleans, and the Greater New Orleans area (a 50-ish+ mile radius of surrounding cities) has always been, to me, one of the most pedestrian-friendly and navigation-friendly cities I've ever been in (I do not currently live there) because it's shaped like a crescent moon, and there is a river on one side and a manmade lake on the other, and then there is the airport and downtown. You are always going to be traveling toward one of those four landmark points, so it's easy to ask for and give directions without having to remember compass points (go toward the airport, go toward the river, etc.). And the canals figure into that too. There are many, many streets that go on for miles and miles, but are broken up by canals along the way. So someone who is not from the area (especially years ago, before Google Maps) could get really confused and really lost if they were trying to find an address such as, say, 2015 Kent Street. They might stumble onto, say, 626 Kent Street and think, "Oh, good. I've found it. I'll just follow the street until I get to the 2000 block, and I'm done. Nope, you're not! They will discover, to their dismay, that they have to navigate numerous canal interruptions along their journey, and it can be tricky to know how to get to the other side of the canal. It's not unusual for someone to give directions to get to a certain address and add, for example, "I'm on the lake side of the canal." That is a critical bit of information to save a lot of backtracking and headaches! The canals are not very wide - about like a boulevard. In fact, they kind of serve a similar purpose as boulevards and medians in that they divide the streets so that you can only go in one direction on either side (usually two lanes on each side), which saves accidents, unless you fall asleep at the wheel (or are drunk) and drive into the canal, which sometimes happens. But at least there are no other cars involved coming from the opposite direction! All that to say you nailed it with choosing "canal" to describe your little waterway. Not all canals are big and/or famous and full of people and ducks and paddleboats or other water vehicles. Some are simply functional, and that's it! BTW, I've been following you (and have been subscribed) since your adorable 15-year-old self first made your debut on KZbin. I discovered your video about sleeping with your wet hair in a donut bun, and thought it would be fun to do that with my granddaughter's hair, who was seven at the time. I've been watching you ever since. Not regularly, and not all of the videos - just here and there, the same as I watch other KZbin videos when I have a few minutes to spare. I love your tea time videos the most. And I know I'm not your only fan from an older demographic: I will be 70 on June 13th. You are loved! I am happy to see how your videos and your life has evolved over the years, and what a beautiful, interesting, and lovely woman you've grown into. And let me add my voice to the chorus of folks who are encouraging you to stick around for as long as it brings you joy to do so. I wish you much well-deserved joy in your personal life as well! -Karen 🥰

I almost yelled at my screen in excitement as you were talking about modern-day fantasy shows being terrible, first of all because you then instantly mentioned The Last of Us which I also found fantastic AND THEN all the while I had already been thinking "Hmmm I wonder if Critical Role would be too big of a departure from 'normal' shows for her -- maybe she would like it..." and you instantly mentioned it 😂😃 I am myself catching up with C3 right now (on ep19, so a long way to go) and am loving it! Also sending greetings from a fellow studied-in-Utrechter. I studied History but I actually had a bunch of friends who did Celtic and who used to drag me along to Asterix evenings & evenings in the O'Connells. Nostalgia! Love your channel btw.

Thank you for your beautiful vibes, yet again! This is why your community loves you 😊 I'm so happy when I get a notification saying you've uploaded a new video. As a late '90's kiddo whose mom wasn't a big fan of the new and intimidating "Online", I was late in discovering youtube dynamics. I didn't initially understand why anybody would subscribe to a channel, since I knew exactly which 6 people to type in the search bar.. simpler times! As youtube grew, becoming a place for more than cute and funny animal videos with the occasional new blogger (eventually becoming vlogs), subscriptions started to make a lot more sense to me! I don't remember how I came across your channel, but I remember watching one of your videos for the first time (another sit and chat QA) and being so excited within the first minute of watching! I enjoy your voice, style, hobbies, and overall content 🥰 Something truly special to me though is that I'm in the US, but my Dad was Dutch and his health was slipping during that time I was watching you and has since passed away. Hearing you talk about and seeing your life in the Netherlands is always so comforting to me ❤ On a last note, you are not alone with the fantasy show feelings! I've discovered foreign shows, specifically french and german, are much more captivating 😃

Canal is totally the right word! Yes, there's great big ones through cities, but also very small manmade "creeks" used for irrigation that are also called canals.

You’re probably third on the list of KZbinrs I’ve been watching the longest, I love your videos and love tagging along your journey through your interests. Mine have kind of overlapped with yours over the years. I used to do hair a lot more (which is how I found you) but my hair has also become very thin, so my hair styles are limited these days too. And then I got into sewing and historical costumes, and very recently I’ve been trying tea, -which I would never drink before- I think partly because of you. Keep on being you Lucy, you’re awesome ^^

i was literally tearing up when you started talking about the pet thing. it's the same for me, i've had 13 rats and at times it was like running an animal hospital instead of just having pets. not having had any pets now for 2 years i really miss the companion and joy, but whenever i get close to considering adopting someone i'm hit with dread and crisis flashbacks. also i rent my place so only small critters are allowed. but i believe they will come when the time is right, whether i feel ready or not. just like with my first pair of rats, things just aligned.

Oh gosh, yes! I had a small pharmacy at home pretty much at all times. When we'd go away for a night I'd have to write a page-long instruction manual for whoever was watching them, detailing which rat is which and how much of each medicine they need at what times, how much of what food for each one... 😭 They're the loveliest of animals but they need such intense care, especially as they get older, and they age much too quickly. Still I also feel like I might have more in the future, I haven't been able to get rid of any of their stuff either. Good thing we now have an attic to store two cages and all the toys and hammocks!
