In winter 2001/2002, Genesis P-Orridge, renowned performance art legend and person who coined the phrase "industrial music," had Darryl Hell visit his home for a conversation about the state of industrial music and much more. A must-see for Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV fans, or industrial music culture enthusiasts.

Thank you. It's one of Gen's faves. Gen gave me incredible access to their archives and such. It really helped me get a better understanding about the works, even though I had been a long time fan. I wanted the flow of the doc to function like our conversations did.

You are so welcome. I wish I had the footage from when he played HELLLab in 2002. I can't post the link here, because of their screwed up rules, but you can search "HELLlab 2" and the event will come up. Below is the description. Genesis will be performing a sound collage set he's titled "Glambient". This is the debut of this performance, which is a revisiting of his earlier sonic performance devices of Coum and Throbbing Gristle. We have a surprise for the end of his set for you.

I always thought it was Monte Cazazza who described Throbbing Gristle as 'Industrial music', and the name just stuck. In fact, it was Genesis who I remember explaining this.

Robert Judd Gen always told me the first Industrial show he ever saw was Pink Floyd where they built a table on stage with contact microphones and drank tea from it in 68? I believe. I remember him telling me that

Pink Floyd were doing the most experimental stuff back in those days, their first few albums show it. Especially Ummagumma and Atom Mother, they were great, especially Syd Barrett, who I think was the most talented member then. Genesis is a huge fan of all psychedelic music and has quite a collection. He turned me on to the Incredible String Band with my favorite song by them 'A Very Cellular Song'.

Thank you. It was also one of Gen's fave interviews. Since GEN had been interviewed thousands of time over the 5 decades of their career, it was an amazing compliment.

@@fugyamofug Good question... I believe it was the combination of those elements and my interview style. Over the years, I have primarily focused on interviewing people in the front of social movements and those dedicated to human rights. Also, as the founder of one of the longest continually active industrial bands, I come to these interviews as a comrade and not a fan. This is very clear when I interviewed F.M. Einheit and Alec Empire. The overall combination made it one of Gen's fave interviews. As I have said before, the reality that Gen had been interviewed so many times over the decades, and really liked the experience with me, was greatly flattering. My editing style for that comes from the experimental work that I had created in the mid/late 1980's.

Narcissistic personality disorder - one of several types of personality disorders - is a mental condition in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for excessive attention and admiration, troubled relationships, and a lack of empathy for others. But behind this mask of extreme confidence lies a fragile self-esteem that's vulnerable to the slightest criticism.

You were given new programming, you didnt erase anything. I admire some of the songs, but this gnostic attitude was inherited. And Im pretty sure it will spiral downwards. Sure, be whatever you wanna be, but when youre a propaganda artist for gender blending, its a cause of inspection of your connections.

FYI - The background music is rare and unreleased sounds from Gen's extensive archive going back to his early sound experiments with Coum prior to Throbbing Gristle. As many people have thanked me for presenting these rare sonic treats over the years, I understand everyone may not be as interested in them.
