@lukejtm8586 Yeah I"m gonna get some DT 990s when I can but I had to quit one of my jobs just to do this channel and also I'm moving next month so who knows when that'll actually happen. I've been making and mixing music for 15 years, but I've never done so with earbuds or as background music for spoken monologues. Typically I have about 16 hours to make these videos from the first word being written to the final product being uploaded to KZbin and so that definitely doesn't help either. The algorithm kicks your ass if you go more than a week without posting though so...

@lukejtm8586 I use Ableton for everything I make myself so that'll just get me to dial back the high end a bit more, which will probably be a good thing if anything. If i'm listening to music that isn't mine then there's a 95% chance it's coming through my car stereo so I'm not too worried about it lol.
@Formscapes Жыл бұрын
@lukejtm8586 Those look awesome, but I read somewhere that closed-back headphones aren't as good for monitoring/mixing as open-back headphones due to the way that closed-backs cause reverberations within the headphone cups themselves. Is this something you've noticed?

This interpretation of the god myths makes so much more sense than the version that says they were just fairytale memes that won out with whichever tribe conquered. I have had the thought on my own that the cosmos created agriculture and we needed years-long memory to figure it out, thus furthering our consciousness, awareness and intelligence. I never heard of Gebser in more than passing before I found your videos and I now LOVE his work.
@Formscapes Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the Ever Present Origin is an absolute gem, but it's a tough nut to crack. If you like Gebser, then you might also want to look into Sri Aurobindo. Aurobindo also develops a kind of "integral theory" but does so by basically synthesizing Indic philosophy with western Platonic philosophy.

Great deep dive, as always! The difference of living/decaying soul is reflected in time and scientific enquiry. Looking into the complexity of matter is observing a spirit of decay. Energy decaying to a more basic complexity. I guess the hope is to find the source of life...the research reveals a complex growth to our modern ecology. Living spirit reflects the complexity that all matter is creating in it's living sense. A more complex and unified future.

If yall want more cinema stuff then i'm gonna need some recommendations bc I only watch movies once in a blue moon lol. Honestly with this one I just watched it on a whim and then just started writing. As for me, I'm just some guy lol. I'm supposed to be doing an interview on the Integral-Facticity podcast, so maybe we will get more into my story whenever we get around to doing that. It's more of a lefty podcast and that's not really my cup of tea anymore but it's very good philosophical content either way.
@lilytheghost7608 Жыл бұрын
@@Formscapes I definitely like a link to that podcast. When are you going to be interviewed over there. I try to reject all lefty/righty designations as I feel it's very simplistic and reductionary. However I'm very anti-capitalism so I probably would enjoy the podcast. As for film recommendations why not start with one of these; No Country for old men, Fear and loathing in Las Vegas, Orange County, Interstellar, Or a classic like All along the waterfront. Believe me film is an incredible way in our generation for stories and ideologies to be told and repersented. It's not Hollywood tripe and superhero movies.
@Formscapes Жыл бұрын
@@lilytheghost7608 No Country for Old men is definitely a good idea, but my only reservation is that I'm not sure if I have anything to say that hasn't already been said by somebody since that one gets addressed so frequently. Blood Meridian hasn't been made into a film yet but that might be a better target for a channel like mine. Interstellar could be a good one. I could probably say everything that needs to be said about it in like 20 minutes, which will be alot less demanding upon people's attention spans than me rambling about an obscure anime for literally an hour lol. Anyway I just stopped identifying with "the left" because over the past 5 years or so, the "left" has devolved into a bunch of narcissistic looney-toons, and also bc frankly it's just way more freeing not to be constantly aligning oneself with a particular political camp or their hypothetical enemies. once upon a time "left" meant anti-capitalist but those days are evidently long gone at least with regards to popular use of the term. This guy is cool though; he's done interviews with Matt Segal and Chris Satoor, both of whom are good friends of mine www.youtube.com/@integralfacticity

I've been going through a spiritual awakening, and one of the films that is absolutely inspired in my opinion is Fight Club. He says it plainly: our great war is a spiritual war. Our great depression is our lives. One day as I was considering the spiritual condition of humanity, it came to me as a vision of a truly chaotic battle where it was every person for themselves, no causes, just an absolute cacophony of bloodlust and desperation. In the middle of this horror, those of us who are waking up are having to figure out how to establish medical tents so to speak, starting with healing ourselves and fully coming out of our own madness, then helping others where we can do so without getting hurt too badly ourselves, since even those who you help are in the grip of terrible forces. It is essential that we understand our own nature. Everything I see happening is directing every single person into self examination that is willing to. What is happening in the world today seems to truly be unprecedented

I watched Angel's Egg a long time ago, I love that you noticed the fish were Coelacanths too! I also thought the skeletons on the walls were reminiscent of the Ichthyosaurs mounted in museums such as the British Natural History Museum. I also think the skeletal bird could be based on the Archaeopteryx fossil? Although it looks also human and so perhaps the "Angel"? I really like your interpretation which is deeper than mine but maybe not so different, I wondered if the egg contained the essence of that civilisation before its extinction, or a spirit of its redemption and salvation. I assumed the two white haired characters were in some way angels too, something alien to the civilisation but send there? But then antagonistic... which seems odd. I love how you noticed the men were like 19th century whalers, I hadn't noticed that or didn't recall thinking that, although now it seems kinda obvious with the harpoon type things.
@Formscapes Жыл бұрын
Yeah the thing with the whalers seems to be a direct allusion to Moby Dick (Which I really need to actually get around to reading; everyone tells me it's phenomenal). What's super weird about this film is that the director stated that he "doesn't know what the film is about", which seems really strange given how on-the-nose most of the symbolism seems to be. Maybe it all just came together like that without any conscious intent, or maybe the director was just deflecting the question so that he didn't create a definitive authorial interpretation which would color people's impression of it. idk but I think it's probably the latter.

Thank you for sharing this video and enlightening me on this movie. It was new to me. I enjoyed your comments and interpretations but I have one additional comment I would like to add. This technological eye which was in the movie may have a more positive interpretation. It could be said that it is a giant technological mind which makes instant monuments of the history of this futuristic civilization. A bit like what the internet cloud does nowadays by collecting our data and storing it for future generations to rediscover.

Did you read the red book? The chapters about Izdubar mirror this perfectly. I have been thinking about Jung's answer, to save the god from the poisonous aspects of man's science by turning him into a living fantasy. And of course, fantasy doesn't exactly mean "not real" here, and definitely doesn't mean dead. I can feel how it might work, how such a fantasy if taken seriously enough could provide the life force of the god, without being lamed by the inevitability of science and technology, but it's just a feeling. I don't understand anything of it yet

again this is true from within the perspective of a hyper modern culture, but it ignores the vast wisdom still living in indigenous knowledge systems. all these 19th and 20th century philosophers were groping blindly towards what indigenous folks have always known. a balance of perspectives would really help! the books Sand Talk by Tyson Yunkaporta and Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall-Kimmerer are good resources for applying indigenous knowledge in the current world.

I wasn't able to notice so much of the symbolism from the movie when I watched it but weirdly, I was came to somehow interpret the similar theme as your video but I think the film little too vague for people whos not adept at things you presented. I know your main focus is to talk about concepts and not the film itself but I would like to know how you felt
@Formscapes Жыл бұрын
The thing is that for most people (possibly including the people who actually created the film) these symbolic structures aren't going to be something that they notice at a conscious level. People *feel* these symbolic narratives at the level of the unconscious, but unless a person has studied things like Jungian Archetypes or Proto-Indo-European mythology, then they probably wont be able to put names to what their intuitions are picking up on. Nevertheless, these symbolic narratives *work* because our unconscious minds are able to resonate with them even if our conscious minds don't understand what's going on at an intellectual level.

All life would be marine or aquatic life. The Ark saves as the Earth saves. The terrestrial. A world limit.
