Good list, though not 'intellectual' enough for some in the comments, who were probably expecting old black and white films of someone dressed in black and looking out at the sea for half an hour. If I had to add one of my own, I'd suggest 'Brazil'.

Arrival deals with the linguistic turn in philosophy that in its most extreme formulation posits metaphysics as linguistically grounded.

Loved the video. IMO Arrival is one of the top movies on the list, not as meta as the others but a great movie.

With Blade Runner, I think many people miss one of the main angles of the film. Since replicants are biological, what separates them from humans is emotions, specifically true empathy. The void--kampff test would detect this lack of proper emotional response to situations that should elicit empathy. The climax of the movie, with Roy's beautiful speech on the roof showed that they had indeed evolved empathy. This showed that replicants were in fact just as much human beings as anyone else. Not only that but in that swan-song speech he touched upon the great tragedy of human existence. To have known such wonders, seen such sights, all to be lost and forgotten when we die, "lost, like tears in the rain". An absolutely beautiful and thought-provoking movie.

totally agree with you about interstellar but would have moved lucy much more higher on the list😁

The Matrix is my joint favourite film. Can't stand The Matrix Reloaded. Same with the Back to The Future sequels, for me a perfect film makes it very difficult to watch a sequel on its own terms and very few sequels are good enough for me to forget the comparison.

Re: Blade Runner. IMO the director’s cut is the preferred version. Moderate spoiler: it does without Decker’s narration, making the film much darker and more interesting.

These are mostly surface level explorations of metaphysics. Especially the Nolan ones which are on top. Most in depth ones are not covered.

Good list, but you lost me with Inception and Interstellar. Guess I'm just not fond of Nolan. Couldn't get through his Mank despite being a Citizen Kane fan. Inception struck me as just a clever and flashy caper film, while Interstellar seemed top-heavy. Liked Bill Irwin voicing the droid, and nice to see Ellen Burstyn at work. But did they REALLY not know about the water planet's waves before they went down there? C'mon. And I thought if they said the "Will not go quietly..." line once more, I'd scream.
