You know IMO the most overrated games do have the attention but the ones that doesn't get the love it's like not generic enough for people. Maybe it's too hard for them. So many great games that didn't receive love are actually the games with more challenge and forces you to level up some bit

This was the first JRPG I played. It was the very first one I owned for the PS1, and both my mother and I adored it. This game was my gateway to console RPGs and what lead to me eventually playing a lot of them. I'm glad to see someone acknowledges that it exists, so I know it wasn't just some fever dream that my mom and I were having.

You know what? Come to think of it I believe it was my very first rpg. I got to play a demo of it because back then there was a demo service by the name of PlayStation Underground which if you signed up for it they would send demos of a few games on one disc to your house through mail. I tried it and fell in love so I ended up buying it. I was just a kid though, so my dumb ass had no concept of what a memory card was. So yeah, this was the bad boy which broke me into the genre. The following year I picked up Final Fantasy 8 and I've been onboard the rpg train ever since.

I actually kind of like that more subdued jazz ambience sound. It set the mood without blaring the same melody over and over. Arc the Lad also had a few themes like this, though it was further helped by having a variety of combat themes for different locations. As much as I like the symphonic battle themes of Final Fantasys (fantasies?), I think FFIV is the only one I can stand to listen to for the fiftieth time in a row.

clemps. this was my first real time-consuming game i played as a child. i think I must have been around 8 or 9 years old but i really don't remember, maybe younger. just hearing vahn's voice and the music in this video gave me such a powerful nostalgia trip because its not like I'm ever exposed to songs or sounds or sights from this game the way I am inundated with aspects of the old final fantasy games. this game was marvelous. i'm glad someone else appreciates it too. i totally see how the slow fighting animations (that caterpillar thing crawling and the post-spirit admiration pose lmao) are definite drawbacks. but i think it took me a solid 6 months, maybe close to a full year to beat this game. i remember beating the game and putting up banners across the hallways in my house that explained i had finally beaten legend of lagaia. (yeh my parents must have been so...happy). just wanted to thank you for making this video man. it really gave me a nice pick-me-up.

I gotta say, I first found out about you through your Drakengard (1/2/3) analysis videos, and I was _hooked!_ I just love the edits you make (whether it's a cut to you making funny and very interesting facial expressions, having the picture of Nowe taped to your face, your voice acting, and adding comical effects [like "Everybody loves Legna" with the funky music and his picture spinning around]) because they're always well-timed and very comical indeed. I think the best ones where in your Drakengard 2 videos: I just can't get enough of them! Also, I'm really happy to find someone making a quick summary of the Drakengard games, because it helps me get back into the story without having to rewatch a full lets play. Can't forget the cleaning gloves! It's become such staple, but I like it! Anyways, this was a bit of rambling, guess I should watch the video right now. I'm HYPED for more vids~

I loved this game when I was younger. For a while, I thought that was just nostalgia talking since I didn't remember it holding up on a replay, but it turned out that was because of crippling emulation issues when playing it on the PS2 that causes massive slowdowns, making it borderline unplayable. Going back and replaying it with a better setup made me realize that the game was even better than I remembered it, and I genuinely feel that Legend of Legaia is the best RPG on the console not named Final Fantasy. It actually held up much better than a lot of its contemporaries, like Lunar, Wild ARMS, and Legend of Dragoon. Considering that this is a first-party Sony game, I really wish that the company would re-release it in some way. It's a real shame that this game has been all but forgotten in recent years.

While all my friends were busy talking about FF7, my hyper religious parents wouldn't let me play it, but this game somehow managed to slip by their radar and I picked up a copy on a whim when i was about 12/13. @vepaot
@vepaot 4 жыл бұрын
Xenogears has a very different system. There is a weak, medium and strong attack in the game. There are four different weak attacks if you chain them together, two different medium, and just the one attack for a strong hit. Each of these different types of attacks have their own XP associated with them and the special moves, called deathblows, require a certain amount of XP from each type of attack. Once you've met those requirements, you will unlock the deathblow attack (assuming you're the right level to learn it also).

I agree, Gala is a piece of crap in the start where you get him (because he always join level 1, regardless of the level of Vaan and Noa he'll get some exp back when he fight Songi alone), but he always ended up being my strongest character, all because of the combos he can deliver once his spirit bar gets to the point where you have 9 slots with spirit, once you get to that, you'll absolutely destroy everyone in your way. PS: i think there's a water that increase the action bar (i think it's Swift Water), you should give all of them to Gala, so he can get his overpowered combos (5 slots combos) and carry you to victory.

I used to rent this game all the time when it first came out, but I never owned it, and never finished it unfortunately. However, I was incredibly lucky earlier this year, and picked it up in a thrift store for $1. I haven't had much time to sit down with it again, but the little bit I have played reminded me of all of the great times I had with it years ago. Your video hits the nail on the head as far as what I remember, and have seen recently, and I love your editing style. I'm subbing.

I remember getting the demo to this in the mail one morning with a gaming magazine subscription or something. My brother watched me play it, but then had to leave for soccer or baseball, I forget. When he got back and found I was still playing it, he asked about it. To which I said, "Nah, I asked mom to buy me the actual game." For the longest time, I had only ever had the 2 PS1 games I got with the system, Gex and Wipeout. Everything else I experienced was via demo discs. This was the game to finally break that. I had so much fun with this, even despite the merciless difficulty, Hell, it even taught me a new word, "accrual." The soundtrack, yes even the battle theme, is an absolute perfect blend of atmospheric and melodic. Everything feels...I dunno, tribal? Islander? Mixed with some funky 90's hip hop jams layered into quite a few places. If anything, it upholds my belief that Japanese women are god tier composers. In the end, I never could beat it, even with a strategy guide, but it still sits firmly in my mind as one of the most unique JRPGs I have ever played. I mean damn, if I think about it, this was basically my FF7, since I never played that initially. Funnily enough, when I finally would, years later, I found it lacking by comparison. I've always found OG FF7 to be a bloated, experimental game. Legaia, on the other hand, knows exactly what it is and just gives you more of that the whole way through. I just wish Legaia 2 wasn't so...Legaia 2.

Honestly the reason Gala sucks so much as a fighter is because he's basically the game's mage (because reasons). Noa is the true power house of the team. Really hope you do videos for Breath of Fire 3 or Brave Fencer Musashi.

adventkamen Pretty much this. I never understood why Gala was so bad when I was young. Playing it again years later, it's glaringly obvious that Gala is meant to use spells. He had the most MP and INT by a lot. I guess the logic is that Gala is the smartest of the 3, and Noa is the dumbest. Their casting ability reflects this.

Funny thing is, even though Gala sucks hard at the beginning (and sometimes you'll feel very frustraded because of him), after the 2nd fight against Songi, when you get the Thunder Book II (or after Dohati, for that matter), Gala becomes REALLY GOOD! He has a lot of HP and defence stats, so he's like a major tank in the team (well, it's not like you can have him take all the hits, but he can get a lot of hits before you actually heal him), and even if he has a spirit bar not as large as Noa's, he does more damage on each individual strike, and the same goes for his hyper arts. By the time you get out of Sol (or should I say around level 27~30+?), just compare the damage you do with Gala's Thunder Punch vs Noa's Forest Breath and you'll see what i mean. He might suck at the beginning, yes, but Legend of Legaia wouldn't be the same without him. BTW, the true power house of the team is Vahn. Period.

Mechanically similar, but Legaia's closer focus on a smaller cast of characters(and lack of mecha) led to more polish. Not to say xenogears is bad, seeing as it has weapon-based arts(and the mecha).

I know I'm two years late on my comment, but thank you for making this and hopefully bringing the joy of this incredible title to more people. I love this game. Legend of Legaia really is every bit as good as people say it is. I remember being about 12 and playing this all the time. Getting off the bus, and rushing home to hit up GameFAQ's and print off Art's combo lists on my old printer. Those were some fun days. Strictly speaking PS2's Legaia Duel Saga isn't really a sequel, and it wasn't written by Hidenori Shibao BUT it's also a damn good title to follow up with after finishing Legend of Legaia.

I have an emotional history with this game My Dad first introduced it to me when I was 5 years old. When I was 12, my grandfather died, and about a month later I found my Dad's old copy of this game and played. A good chunk of me was still getting used to my grandfather's death along with a certain traumatic event that followed, and this game helped me to release all my pent-up emotion- feelings of grief, betrayal, and hating someone you dont want to hate- with one single scene near the end, making this the very first video game to make me cry. All who have played this game likely know which scene im talking about. This is, without a doubt, my favorite game of all time.

To anyone who is seeing this comment… we should suggest this game to big KZbinrs we enjoy, to raise more awareness of it. That could really help others know about this game if those KZbinrs end up playing it. And maybe when we get enough awareness of the game easier, there could be possibilities for a remake after it becomes famous again if we were to do this method.

Honestly I like the main battle theme for what it does: create a driving rhythmic pulse. The composer clearly had a knack for melody, and feel like the omission was intentional. It's part of what made this game so so sooooo strongly memorable, the overall atmosphere. The battle theme not being particularly catchy but still energetic and driving for me emphasizes the feeling of mystery and suspense that make the game. Every new area brings surprises, the scale is epic in a way that keeps you wondering what's next. There's an almost supernatural quality the soundtrack embodies of the game. Great vid, learning game design stuff (can barely code a character to move in a line without animation lol), but if I get good enough I had the idea of a game with similar mechanics to the Legend of Legaia battle system, but make it a rhythm game. The attacks would still be combinations of up down left right, but must be in a specific rhythm of quick presses and long presses. The equivalent to spirit might do something along the lines of increase the tempo, as faster bpm's could unlock stronger combos. Some enemies may get stronger abilities too though at faster tempos! Anyways, I was thinking about it tonight and was going to give the soundtrack a listen for nostalgic inspiration and stumbled upon this video. Nice to see such an underrated gem get the love it deserves. Final Fantasy, especially IX was definitely a formative component of my gaming youth, but I'm in agreement this game just has something... more to it. I never even beat the damn thing, got to the final area once I think. I think I may have had the most hours clocked on FF IX through replay hours, but the impact from this game was unique.
