I love this game. So much. The last few years have been absolutely incredible for final fantasy. FFXIV continues to thrive and expand, FFXVI was a great time, Rebirth is literally the greatest modern final fantasy game ever, and stranger of paradise is one of the funnest coop games I've played.

I think about this video every single day. My heart longs for more Clemps. I wish you would make another review video of this game so that I could have even more. 😄

I really don't have much of an issue with Trance though I get the frustration in getting trance in a battle you don't need it in. I don't like the idea of storing Trance for other battles as it defeats the purpose of what it is narratively. In general, I think Limit Breaks/Overdrive/Trances are cool but they aren't a big part of what makes the battle system fun. I would be totally fine with the idea of Trance bars getting reset at the end of each battle so it will only occur in longer battles. Maybe having the gauge fill based on different criteria for each character would be cool. That way each character motivations show in the gameplay. As for the visuals of Trance effects the battle field, I can do without that. I'm a big opponent of the idea that making things bigger or more elaborate always makes things better. That's something the FF7 Remake games keep doing and it's extremely frustrating. My two improvements I would submit for how things work with being intranced it that the transitions should be quicker and Vivi's Double Black Magic should have him reset his position between casts. He should just hope twice. One thing I'm surprised you didn't mention is expanding on moves done in conjunction with other characters. I always thought it was cool that Vivi and Steiner have a gameplay connection via Sword Magic that makes them better as a pair. It would be nice if Eiko and Dagger had a way to combine their Summon power. Maybe Zidane can get a stat boost when Dagger is in the party. Given the chemistry that cast has with each other, it would be nice to see more of it come out in battles.

I played the demo of this from PS magazine over and over many times before i convinced my mom to let me buy it back in the day XD I wasa young teen at the time. Great game, so sad so few know of it. Replaying it presently actually.

It is not the same to watch the dreams sequences just on KZbin or read them. The emotional expression when you do them as a continuous flow just by playing the game is a superior experience.

you know they couldve made it so the nobodies had like, more emotions instead of the other way around to explain why they all act like angsty teens rather than emotionless robots. like, it was their story they didnt have to say they had no emotions then come up with an excuse as to why they had emotions but definitely didnt have emotions. just, idk, make it so theyre like tinkerbelle (you know, a disney property) and that they can only experience one emotion at once and they experience it very intensely. that way all the drama and angst can stay but theyre still also emotionally "incomplete" because they experience emotion in a less complicated but more out-of-control way literally just one idea for what they couldve done. its so weird that they did it this way lol its like saying "all of these magical people are named bob and if they tell you their name isnt bob thats just them pretending to have a different name, which everyone calls them, they identify with and respond to and is what theyre known as by everyone else" you couldve just not named them bob and im not sure why you had to do it that way in the first place

This is without a question one of my favorite games of all time, and feeling nostalgic for it as i started up bravely second again(ive full cleared this game twice) i decided to watch a retrospective, and this video is genuinely fantastic. Its through, well voiced, funny as hell, and i look forward to seeing more content, which i will do shortly, as im 3 years late to this party lmao

After the bastardization of VII and them completely throwing out the message of the OG game, I do not want them to come anywhere close to touching IX. They already ruined one of my favorite games; please don't let Square destroy another. IX was my first introduction and VII made me feel less alone in coping with the death of a family member, who's not yet died at the introduction of me playing IX. But it was still my first and no less important to me.
