This sermon is so packed with wisdom and with moral courage! It is telling that such a high proportion of the numbers viewing have left comments. What gives it much of its power is its breadth of mind and imagination, allied to compassion, and its moral clarity. So it has humour ("his holiness Richard Dawkins"); and when it accuses it accuses not only behaviour, but the ideas (or perhaps a lack of ideas born of unrecognised nihilism) in which such behaviour is rooted. Thereby, Rabbi Sachs suggests that there's a way back (i.e. forgiveness), even for "the people without shame [... who] are the only people who survive in a world without shame." All I would add is this: one of the things that most disturbs me about this issue is the moral failure of those who stay silent when they are in a position to shout from the rooftops knowing they will be heard. They bend before the spirit of this age, with its lack of forgiveness, its peculiar combination of moral relativism and moral certainty based on self-righteousness. Politicians, institutional leaders, religious leaders - only a small minority seem to understand what's happening. They don't have the insight or the moral courage to look at anything greater than the court and noise of public opinion (not that the noise reflects what most people would prefer), nor to identify and name the evil. Their perspectives are on themselves and their own institutions. Where is the moral clarity that enabled the Psalmist to call out, "I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I" (Psalm 61:2).

I'm sorry but the 'chosen people' is a metaphor and everyone can be a member of the 'chosen people'. Salvation is not exclusive to a genetic group, my friend, but anyone who accepts God's forgiveness and is able to forge a way ahead, indeed not blaming others. this my friend, is Christ's own message. Romaticising the chosen people only corrupts thought.

Writing as a Christian, what a wonderful sermon. Of course, to be 'forgiving' requires the wisdom, and maturity, to recognise that the 'lex talionis' only engenders feuds; and settles nothing. It also requires (dare I write it?) the EXAMPLE of a LOVING and FORGIVING GOD!

The huge loss of his passing is strongly felt through this clip that expresses an assertive humility versus 'pseudo-moralistic stances of activists' (as Jordan Peterson puts it ). 'An accusing culture' would be befitting as the title. Tolerance for human weakness reserved merely for the more intentional offenders is a damaging pity for this culture which will hopefully evolve. 'How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle - we are distressed for thee, our brother Jonathan' (Samuel II, 1).

So true. The problem is that the "Unforgiving Age" is specific to England. The English use any weakness to attack. In New Zealand, where I was brought up, it is different. I remember I had Jewish friends who would use self deprecating humour. One was my boss. By doing that, he somehow made me feel at ease, that he was also a small fish - like me. Of course, we New Zealanders all have that sort of humour ourselves. We do not have a "born to rule" mentality like the English, where fellow human beings are treated as lower beings, to be jumped on if they show any weakness.
@Aenthel5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if it is entirely fair to say all English are like that, usually just about any group of persons (which tends to revolve around ethnic social organisation) will at times take advantage of other groups that are not as well established or capable of maintaining their own rights or interests, unfortunately that is all too typical of human nature my experience with Islanders is that they are usually very friendly, I can say a lot of good things about them but there are also examples that are significantly less than perfect as well, human nature and by some association how different cultures develop underscores most of these issues, we can all work together and one day we will all be working together in kindness and good-will (Micah 6:8)

For almost 2000 years the remains of the Tribe of Judah have suffered some of the most horrific persecutions. The Jews however, are returning to Israel after having been dispersed for many generations all around the world. Does that mean God has now forgiven the Tribe of Judah for what they did nearly 2000 years ago? . Numbers 14:18 ‘God, slow to anger and abundant in loving-kindness, pardoning error and transgression, but by no means will he give exemption from punishment, bringing punishment for the error of the fathers upon sons, upon the third generation and upon the fourth generation.’ . .

But, here’s the situation, the world in this age, the overall spirit, of certain ones, that set the tone, seek to be ‘irrational’, they KNOW IT, are well aware of their irrationality, seeking to send a message, they now have found some voice and are prevailing. So, wisdom says, must guard yourself, they are irrational enemies. Not to give them attention, by commenting on EVERY LITTLE IRRATIONALITY. THAT IS WHAT THEY LOVE, SEEK, ‘ATTENTION OF THEIR IRRATIONALITY’, because they are not moral and enjoy every minute of attention. The objective should be to expose and comment on, confront their irrational behaviors, such as at Cambridge Trinity, I believe he said, and THEN, WAVE YOUR HAND AT THE ISSUE, HAVE A LOUD, GOOD PUBLIC CHUCKLE AND move on to the rational things in life, discarding them. One cannot give them too much of an audience, that is what they seek, ‘in their fight against Jacob, in these end times’. Don’t give it to them, that is wisdom. From: a believing christian, who follows Torah’, G_d bless, Amein. !

Recently, listening to a man, Dereck Prince, very interesting life, on youtube, ‘how to find your place’, he has an international ministry, still in existence, the ministry, etc., and he commented on his plan, actually, think it might have been a teaching position, professor, at Cambridge, he states. When he gave it up, people did not think it wise he states on this video, however, he states, following G_d, YHWH, is always best, of course. Mentioning an interesting fact, that if he STAYED IN THAT POSITION, HE’D PROBABLY HAVE TO RETIRE AT 65 OR EARLIER, AND HAVE A LITTLE PENSION, ETC. I thought to myself, these well known top historical institutions, in the UK, are pretty stingy, that seems to be fact. They are (forgive...’big show offs’ re: their reputation, etc., of being a classy, elite place’), but generosity for years of service, may be lacking. It seems to be a trend, well known...? (In point blank words, d’t be so stingy, ‘put your $ where your bragging on your reputation is’) Correct? {Such an illusion, game}. Anyway, he stated this fact in this video.
