Lee, I am a licensed professional counselor, and you words need to be heard! The more people speak out about suicide and self-harm, the more educated we as a society will become. The subject of suicide has been taboo for so long, but educating others is necessary. Thank you for your words and all you do for Asher House. My deepest sympathies for Ashley's family.

with all the amazing things pets do to lift our life up what people do not realize is our pets pick up parasites walking in the grass/dirt/street. And, these parasites will end up in Humans and these parasites that humans can get from their pets is a huge part of mental illness. YES. parasites will cause mental illness. Every one needs to do a parasite cleanse (the whole family) and their pets at least twice a years. It's easy you take herbs you can buy at walmart, health food stores, etc. For 10 days or so then you take a 5 to 10 day break and repeat you do this for 90 days. This method kills off the new hatched worms. most herbs or RX do not kill parasite eggs this is why you have to do prolong parasite cleanse. WE ALL HAVE THEM whether you want to face this fact or not. . Watch "Road to perfect health Brenda Watson Parasites", vids with Dr Hilda Clark (she believe cancers, mental illness, health diseases were caused by parasites) (both of these women have books), also see yt Dr Group he believes 90% of US citizens have parasites without knowing, see Dr Axe, Dr Berg, Candida Eric Bakker naturopath = vids on parasites. Prior to the 1980's schools reminded parents before september school to do parasite cleanses. In the early 1900's doctors knew if someone was sick they had parasites. Then the big phrama companies came in and instead of educating doctors on what Rx are good for parasite detox they instead push Rx drugs that only deal with symptoms but, never cure the person of the actual healthy issues. Parasite cleanses for both humans & pets is old school medicine that everyone should look into for good health. It takes up to 90 days to detox from parasites. Lots of these rescue dogs lived on the street and eat out of trash cans so they need long term parasite dotox not just one dose of parasite rx. They also have skin fungus that humans can pick up and then that too will cause over eating, mental health issues, depression, anxiety, sleep issues etc. look up symptoms of parasites. If you have been sick, have kids, pets, eat veggies, sushi, meat, us public restrooms, had food poisoing, visit friends/family with pets/kids etc you need to do a detox not only to get rid of the parasites but, to impove your health. mental health is not about your thought...it's about parasites, candida (fungus), microparasites etc in your gut. YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM IS YOUR GUT...eat a clean diet like keto diet or carnviore diet or other cut out sugar and anything processed and made with flour as parasites from worms, fungus candida etc love this and make you addicted to these foods literally.

What a blessing for all the animals that are rescued. But, if you are doing this amazing work you MUST detox your body of parasties that you can very easily pick up from a stray dog/cat or your own pets.

I am an animal rescuer in Romania. And I am going through depression and anxiety caused by the fact that I cannot save all the animals. It hurts so much that people are so bad to animals and you cannot do anything but somehow you have to find it in yourself to overcome the pain, depression and anxiety to save other souls. God bless her and may she rest in peace! 🙏

Still a day hasn't gone by that she doesn't cross my mind. I have closer friends I don't think abt every day. I couldn't explain my reaction, but I am human and any suicide is tragic. Human beings are the most despicable creatures on this earth. No other creature is capable of such cruelty as man. This is why I love animals. They just want to please us and be loved in return. It breaks my heart to hear the sad news of Ashley’s passing. Her pain must have been unbearable. If you can’t be kind with your words and actions, then just go away.

@@cynthiaamitrano8915 this is the truly awful thing about bad humans. It’s their intention to hurt and punish people, often for the most selfish reasons - to relieve their envy like Lee said. Or the ones who are simply judgemental and ignorant towards those with mental health issues. As a sufferer myself, I get judged a lot. It does hurt but I’ve learned over the years it’s not about me. It’s about them.

Really heartbreaking. People that help and rescue vulnerable animals are the best kinds of people on this earth. You’re helping living beings that can’t give you anything back but love. That she felt she couldn’t stay in this world, just really breaks my heart. Getting hate for being a compassionate empathetic generous human being and a beautiful steward of this earth. I’m unsure how pained these commenters are that they spew their own hate into the world to hurt other people, cruelty for cruelties sake. I’m just so horrified by it.

Lee, I was a licensed professional counselor and disability specialist for 20 years until my own medical illness and age left me having to quit my career. I am glad that you posted this message. I worked in community mental health with the poorest and most disabled folks and lost many over the years to suicide. So many of them suffered from depression, thought disorders, loss of family and friends and rejection from the community. I have experienced mean comments and unfair judgements from people because my MS affects my muscular coordination and balance when I walk. I have rescue pets and helped clients care for their pets. My heart goes out to Ashley and her family and her pets.

In Bambi, Thumper quoted his mother, "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all." I wish people would take this quote to heart. It really is disheartening how instead of just turning away and focusing their energy elsewhere, some people can't help but bring others down. Words can hurt, sometimes more than physical wounds can. So sad to hear about Ashley. 😢

It is good you are talking about this because this animal rescue work is hard on people, lots of burn out, depression, it can be very difficult on your emotions. @@romystumpy1197 definitely. I am an adoption coordinator for several rescues and rescuers in Baja Mexico, the US and Canada for street dogs. So many times when we feel we have found them in the nick of time, it is too late and often we can only offer a little love, gentleness which may be the first time they have experienced it, then gently help them leave this cruel world. I can not let go of those experiences and I also throw myself in further to try to save more in the memory of those that didn't have a loving forever home.

Here is a phrase from long ago, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." I was taught this by an extremely wise grandmother. You put yourself out there everyday. For as much as I love animals, I could not do animal rescue. You see the worst of the worst and show us the best outcome. This has to grind on one. Keep doing what you are doing, it is so needed. Us animal lovers commend you for what you do. Please ignore the assholes who have nothing nice to say.

Thank you Lee for such a wonderful tribute to Ashley. I have rescued animals for as long as I can remember and currently have 5 dogs. 2 Shar Pei, one bull massive of which turned a year Oct 2022. We rescued the 2 Shar Pei's and Bull Massive in Sept 2021 from a very abusive situation where they were being physically and mentally abused. I also have three cats there were previously just left out to fend for themselves. One of a yellow tuxedo and he was so thin that their uncertainty of survival was so unsure. That was almost 6 years ago. I know that Ashley made the world a whole better place, and as Lee says be there to help Thank you again Lee you are wonderful in all that you do.

We are our brothers keepers? Yup. Thank you for posting. Truly tragic. I have noticed that around any kind of a holiday those that can’t hang on any longer don’t. And with this having been been Holy Week w Easter, and all that it entails and symbolizes for millions of people, it is easy for people that care deeply for X to just give it up. To them, it is finished. So why shouldn’t they. And that is the most tragic of all.

The main thing of all, they need you to be there for them and vice versa...to fight a good fight, to keep fighting another day, and days. Imho, when we take our own lives, it's selfish af...we wouldn't solved our problems, we just going to create another problem to the people that live by doing so. Just ignore the haters that hate us, they're going to keep hating us anyways no matter how good and kind we are. F them! You know you can fight a good fight and to fight another days.

Absolutely well said. I have learned in my rescue work to NOT tell people what I do. Even those who know will often snicker when they think I don’t see. “How many cats do you have?”…really means, “tell us so we can make fun of you behind your back.” Cause “you’re the crazy cat lady!” It costs me a fortune & never ends. I cannot fathom how people can just SEE suffering & TURN AWAY! My love & condolences to beautiful Ashley & her family ♥️ 🙏. 11:36 11:36

I was a caretaker to over 50 ferals for years, the first few years the money came out of my pocket. The worst critics were my own family. Did I have the money? No? But I truly believe it’s my “calling”. I still feed ferals, I just lost a mouse last night that I saved (someone dumped them, 5 of them, where I feed my cats. There are 3 still alive, I’ve had them for a year and a half. Did I want mice? No. But it’s what I do and who I am. RIP Ashley ❤️

@@Maggie-zr2ow Thank you 💕 for taking the time to offer your encouragement & kind words…it means everything 🙏. Rescue work can be challenging on so many levels. One rescue took me 6 weeks sitting for hours in a parking lot of a restaurant trying to catch a semi-feral nearly bald cat. She looked a bit like ET & was obviously ill. It was November & freezing cold. At first, I saw some boys trying to befriend her with food & thought how nice it was they were so kind. However, much to my horror I then watched as they tossed food her way & attempted to light her on fire😳! There was no way I was going to leave that baby to be mistreated. If they hadn’t killed her she would have frozen to death in the dumpster that winter. Her eventual rescue brought a most loving little soul into our home for 18 years. She never did grow any fur except for a few wild strands between her ears. 🤗 She made do though by staying near the wood stove every winter for the rest of her life🧣🐈! She was but one in a long line of rescues over the years but as always, my reward is seeing them warm, vetted & cared for every day 💕. One by one making a difference for some of our fellow companions 🦮 🐈‍⬛ here on Earth…🥰! Kindred spirits 🕊️ are always encouraging…thank you 🥰!

😪💔 RIP Miss Ashley. We need all warriors for animals, so I hope anyone who is struggling will reach out for help. Everyone who saves animals is also saving humanity. I say this all the time and I mean it: We must IGNORE the haters. Reject their ugliness. Reject their negativity. Step right and carry on, and derive strength from the love and support of the many good peeps in the world. Lee is totally right. Being an animal rescuer takes a HUGE toll on the psyche because you are interacting with and dealing with the aftermath of the actions of the WORST humans our society contains. It can wear you down emotionally in a very real way. The only way to combat it is to always try to focus on the GOOD. Because you also get to be around the BEST people who share your love for and devotion to animals and their fellow humans. I think of the wonderful family of remarkable individuals I have met thru my decades of participating in animal rescues, and it bolsters my spirit at times when I find it flagging. SENDING LOVE TO ALL GOOD PEOPLE OUT THERE TODAY! And to all the animals we are blessed to have on our planet. Your words matter, Lee. Thank you for these beautiful words. We take strength from your kindness and beauty that you share with us and the animals. Really love you a lot and yes, I understand the feelings you express here. I will do something nice in honor of Ashely, not sure what yet but I will spread some positivity for her. 💜💜💕💕💜💜💕💕💜💜💕💕
