Yeah, it’s wild how hard that scene hits for both demographics. As a teen you’re barely out of being a little kid, and calling out for your mom is still very familiar. The tween/teen audience is instantly put into Drew’s shoes in a very believable way. But now that I’m older and a parent, the scene works on the other side of the coin. The scene instantly fills me with nauseating fear for my own child, so much so that I don’t want to watch it anymore. I love Scream and I think the opening is brilliantly constructed. But for that reason, as soon as she makes it outside and that moment is imminent, I skip ahead.

I argue that despite what certain portions of the fandom like to say, Dewey was never dumb/stupid. He definitely had a level of naïveté to varying degrees, but he wasn’t stupid. His devotion and bravery often got him into scenarios that led to his attacks, but it was never because he was dumb. Which is why it angers a lot of ppl for having Dewey die by being dumb.

Dewey was reckless (much like every other film), but he wasn't dumb. He wanted to be sure to kill Ghostface. Should he have stood further away? Sure, but he wanted to make sure he hit the mark. Remember, he literally had just missed Ghostface when shooting from a distance.

@@Joker_JAK which in itself is a stupid inconsistency given he was kind of a crack shot back in Scream 3 and NOBODY would miss all 5 rounds on a man sized target 20 feet away. Of course he didn't miss all, they were absorbed by the bulletproof vest. Even so it is incredibly dumb for him to do that, as a Policemen he would have known about the fatal range of a knife vs gun and wouldn't struggle to hit a stationary head sized target at 10 feet. Dewey always gets his ass handed to him in a fight though, so it is at least consistent with every film in that regard.

Ya that felt very “un-Scream-like”. I think in the first movie there was like this “who is ghostface and are they supernatural, like Jason Voorhees or Freddy Krueger, seemingly being able to get around extremely quickly or be in two places, and seems to know where everyone is and when, because all of the characters seem to have solid alibis” but the twist that there were two killers the entire time explains all of that in an interesting, rational way. The addition of an *actual* ghost that was delivering info the main character didn’t know beforehand, including what Billy’s voice sounded like and what he looked like when he died despite never meeting him, was heavy handed and you’re right it doesn’t fit with any of the other movies

In regards to knowing who killed who in the original Scream, there’s actually a way to tell. When Ghostface goes for the killing blow, watch how he holds the knife. If he’s doing it while gripping the knife with his right hand, it’s Billy. If he’s doing it with both hands wrapped around the knife, it’s Stu. It’s a little detail I never noticed before until I saw a video going through the deaths one by one. It was a nice little detail from Wes 😁 Also, there’s no way Billy COULDN’T be the one that killed Tatum. Stu was still hosting the party, and he was the one that locked her in with Billy, unlocking it when the deed was done

Yeah, Billy tends to go for more slicing and dicing (though not exclusively), whereas Stu tries to gut you - which we know is a tip off for Stu, specifically, because he talks about gutting & the force it requires at school. Likewise, we know Stu was likely the one who strung up Casey and gutted her (and Steve) - both because of the gutting, but also because the room/attic thing in Stu's house has a bunch of dolls hung like Casey was.

Something not a lot of people point out with these movies which I kind of love/hate is the Jay and Silent Bob of it all. Yes they cameo in Scream 3 but it gets weirder when you watch the movie Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back where they run through a Hollywood backlot and into the set of Scream 3 with Neve Campbell and Wes Craven playing themselves but it’s explicit that they’re filming Scream 3, not Stab 3 meaning in the Askewniverse, Scream is a fictional franchise which makes their presence in the fictional franchise all the weirder when they’re producing a piece of fiction similar to their diegetic reality. It then gets even weirder when you remember that in the first Scream, it’s established that Clerks, the movie exists as a movie within the diegetic world of Scream. There’s a Clerks cutout in the video store and a Clerks VHS tape is displayed on top of the tv in the house party. So Clerks exists as a fictional movie within the diegetic world of Scream yet Jay and Silent Bob appear as actual people in Scream 3 and then according to Jay and Silent Bob, Scream is made into a fictional franchise that exists within the diegetic world of the Askewniverse. Yes I know it’s probably just meant to be a cutesy in joke between people behind the scenes with not a lot of thought put into it, but the continuity breaks are so comically precise in terms of how they invert and then reinvert each other.

My relationship with horror is a bit more casual) but horror has always been hands down the most chill community I've encountered. Bad movies are a huge part of horror so horror fans are a lot more likely to just laugh at a bad sequel rather then get angry and start a petition/hate campaign. Might have something to do with horror fans tending to be a little older. Something interesting occurred to me while watching this. In Scream 2, Tori Spelling spoils that Billy is one of the killers in a promotional interview for the Stab movie. I always assumed it was just another meta joke about actors spoiling movies or some such, but in the Scream universe, the Stab movies are based on Gale's book, which is in turn based on true events, meaning that the fact that there are two killers and the identities of those killers are probably public knowledge. This means that Stab, despite being the in universe version of Scream, can't really be a who-done-it because everyone already knows who did it, so maybe Tori Spelling didn't actually spoil the movie in that interview because they weren't hiding the identities of the killers and perhaps made that a part of the plot. So, imagine a version of Scream where we, the audience, are let in on the fact that Billy and Stu are the killers early on and get to see more of the how they did it rather than focusing on the mystery element, kind of like a cross between a buddy cop movie and Behind the Mask: the Rise of Leslie Vernon but with two almost comically inept serial killers. It would probably be an objectively worse movie than original murder mystery, but it would be interesting to see.
@commandercorner55752 жыл бұрын
As funny as that is, the film had already debuted in universe at that point. I mean, look at how quickly after No Way Home came out everyone was interviewing Tobey, Andrew and Tom and just outright talking about the biggest spoilers of that movie.
@z-beeblebrox2 жыл бұрын
This is a cool observation about the nature of Stab as a slasher, and it's too bad it wasn't explored since it could've let them contrast the two sub-types of Slasher, which none of the movies have ever done: the Whodunnit Slasher vs the Cult-of-Personality Slasher ala "Halloween" where you know from the start who the killer is. Another thing I wish the Scream movies would do is dive more into the nature of Stab as a proto version of The Conjuring franchise, which shares a *ton* of similarities with it conceptually, outside of being supernatural.

Some thoughts on the 5th one 1) it seems the writers planned out who the killers were because there is so much foreshadowing (i.e. Ghostface sending a video instead of livestreaming and Ghostface pulling out the voice changer in the hospital because the other killer is one of the victims being attacking) 2) I wish Dewey had unmasked his ghostface (maybe make it Liv), only for another one of the killers to stab him from behind, or even have both Stab him giving him the distinction of being the only kill with multiple Ghostfaces 3) I liked the subversion of the evil family member visions actually protecting Sam instead of driving her to murder

@@joshualester5154 They do, but Scream 2 and 3 both had severe changes in those plans, which makes the original plan staying the same throughout filming a bit of a noteworthy thing. *For the record;* the original killers for Scream 2 were Hallie (Sid's roommate) and Mickey. Mrs. Loomis was added after script leaks. Whereas the original killer for Scream 3 was Stu (who had survived in a coma), and then changed to Roman and Angelina before filming began, and then after the vast majority of the film was filmed Weinstein decided it would be more surprising if there was only 1 killer - so Angelina's killer reveal & death scene was cut, leaving there once again only 1 killer for Scream 3 and Angelina's fake out death scene being treated as her "actual" death scene.

Couple thoughts... firstly Scream is my favorite horror franchise, they're complete comfort horror movies that i can binge in succession due to the continuing character arcs. They make me laugh and make watch horror eaiser for me. So i was highly anticipating the 2022 requel. And for me it was mostly fantastic. when i got out i felt like they landed every meta narrative they were providing. My only gripes were that Sidney didnt get an extended chase sequence, but because of Neve Campbell's age that might not have worked, so i would've been fine if they gave Melissa Barrera a muuuch longer sequence than the short one in the hospital. The running-for-their-life-trying-to-do-anything-they-can-to-survive chase scenes are great. Standouts are Gale's music room scene in Scream 2 and Sidney's STAB 3 set chase scene. And because of this I felt the lack of Ghostface's bumbling self. It was there, just not so prominently. Everyone's acting was great. I think this was safe thriller horror. Still some pretty brutal stuff but nothing like saw to where i was taken out of the movie. It's shot way better than Scream 4, whose lighting is awful. The constant opening a fridge door an expecting something behind it put me to such an uncomfortable edge that i felt those scenes really worked. Make me tense and frightful, not disgusted. I had a great time with this movie. The Dead Meat Cameo was fantastic, and if you look at the top recommended video on that screen you can see Kirby survives the events of Scream 4. So many little easter eggs sprinkled about. I'm gonna be buying the bluray day 1 it comes out for sure. I wish everyone else 'got' the movie and enjoyed it like i did. Not my favorite of the franchise, thats the original, but its either 2nd or 3rd of them all.

I think Neve (and Courtney) could still believably have chase scenes. They are getting older, that much is true, but they aren’t elderly or disabled. Also, Ghost Face has pretty much always relied on mind games and the element of surprise. Seeing as how they both have lived through it several times, they could easily anticipate moves to an extent that could outsmart and outlast any killer. (Like them knowing that Amber running out was a trap, not a true cry for help.) I personally think that would make an interesting story: the rules are always at play and they KNOW the rules. They could flip the script on the killer and catch HIM (or her) off guard. (Laurie Strode is older than both of them and she has shown that the older ladies can still hold their own pretty well! Lol) I think there are enough story lines left to continue to incorporate Sidney some while also continuing to bring in new characters to center around to keep it fresh. I won’t hold my breath for that to happen, sadly. I think a lot of legacy fans would be ok with the story moving away from Sidney and Gale if it felt like there was a true closure to their story. For many ppl, that moment never came and it’s very unclear if it ever will. (I suspect had Wes lived to make a 5th and 6th, we would have received that proper send off.) Scream 5 unfortunately doesn’t rank high on the list for me. I’m holding out hope that maybe 6 will turn it around for me. It disappointed me, but I am genuinely happy to see that after all these years, it’s still making ppl excited!

I think I'd like to give 5cream (2022) a little more credit (on my list I'd consider it slightly better than 3, but still below 2), but I do agree that it was a let down compared to 4 and I have the some complaints you do. 4 had everything the original had turned up to the max and gave us the most of the tropes that make this franchise special, especially when it comes to ghostface! I agree about all the moments in 4 that got your attention as they did with me too. One of my favourite aspects of the franchise is how the killer toys with his victims, especially when he calls and taunts them which I feel aside from the original, 4 has some of the absolute best ghostface dialogue in that regard. It also has the most ghostface dialogue in general and hearing Roger L. Jackson perform is such a treat that is an absolute crime in the other ones when hes under used. I don't think anything can beat the original, but 4 is such a masterpiece in everything it does and will always remain my personal favorite next to the original! I'll be honest, I thought it was a blast, and definitely better than the other sequels sans 4. The way the motivation loops around from the original with "being inspired by slasher movies (which wasn't the killer's *core* motivation but it was a big part of how they carried out the kills)" to "wanting to inspire further slasher movies" was really clever. The killers somewhat lack the WOW factor that 1 and 4 have, but I think they're definitely more effective than the ones in 2 and 3. And the supporting cast is almost certainly the best since the 1st movie, which is one area where I thought the other movies kinda lacked in, even though I love 4. That being said, I agree the lead girl was the weakest part of the film. It wasn't necessarily how she was utilized in the narrative (although Billy tulpa is very silly), I just think her actress failed to sell me on almost any of her lines. Her sister however, was fantastic and easily one of my favorite characters in the franchise now. Jenna Ortega *kills* it SPOILERS FOR SCREAM 5 BELOW I also dont think Dewey was being dumb in his death scene. It was a split second reflex that he fell victim to that the killer took advantage of, and I think that's pretty forgivable
@astoldbynickgerr2 жыл бұрын
The scene with Dewey & the killer in the hospital, I was thinking they were going to have Dewey actually kill the killer then and there, Amber gets exposed as Ghostface, everyone thinks it’s over, then Richie would take things from there because that has never been done before. That would’ve been cool, though I see that wouldn’t have worked well with the story.
@lowkeybruja2 жыл бұрын
what’s unforgivable from that scene tho is how no one tried to unmask when ghostface was laid out initially- like ????? they were all content to just walk away without knowing, and even when he went back he STILL didn’t go for the mask ??? had me screaming internally🤬
@MiyaoMeow5882 жыл бұрын
@@lowkeybruja killing ghostface was way more important. reaching for the mask is a very risky move when they aren't dead, and they were almost certainly playing possum anyway. I dont think it would've worked

Jada Pinkett Smith's death scene in Scream 2 is my favorite death of the franchise. Her anguished scream and then everybody thinking it was just a publicity stunt and she knows she's dying and help is RIGHT THERE. It just chills my blood every time I see it.

I love Scream 4, it's my second favourite. The one thing that it's lacking is personality. All of the younger characters are so bland. Like Charlie just stares at people, I think he's trying to pull off a calculating stare like Billy but he just looks like the actor is bored.

Things I liked about Scream 2022. I appreciated the small details like the hint of Kirby's survival and the identity of Sydney's husband they gave you. The tributes to Wes Craven through the film also got points from me for overall respect to his work. Weird thing also to notice,at the end when the killer is ranting they are spitting all over the damn place. Much like Stu in the original Scream movie when he was monologuing in that same kitchen. Idk maybe I'm weird but I thought that was great 🤷 Character wise I did not like Sam nor the acting by the actress. I was expecting more and was just disappointed in the direction all around. 20 minutes in and I knew where everything was going. Killer(s) , motives and parental twist in all. As a big time fan of the film series it was to predictable and I felt like they missed a opportunity for something much deeper and far less obvious a outcome.I enjoyed it for the legacy characters, the twins and Jenna Ortega's character. I had a feeling just based on the trailers that they would do a fake out on her which they did. Dewey and Gails split just didn't sit right with me either. Good performances by David and Courtney ,I just think they should've kept them together bc of the history especially from what they gave you from them in Scream 4. Ranking wise I'd say 1,4,2,5,3

People keep saying that it was predictable as if that's a bad thing. The original was so predictable too (except for the fact there were two killers). Billy was so obvious a killer and even his motivation. It was so easy to see coming, but that doesn't mean it was bad by any means. Heck, I even figured Drew Barrymore was going to be killed off and that was shocking to most other people.

I actually loved Scream 2022, slightly edging out 4 even if that was my #2 until now. I thought Sam carried the torch great and aside from Kirby the main cast of 4 just passed by without any real emotion felt towards them, but I loved the main sisters and the Meeks twins (particularly Mindy) were a great addition to the cast.

“I wanted more until Wes Craven passed away” and “I know it’s not just bias because I didn’t dislike 4” were two of my main points!!! I actually gave Scream 4 a chance despite my same original “concerns” if you will. And I liked it! I genuinely TRIED to like this movie and there was maybe two things I didn’t hate about it. I also called the killers being Amber and Richie but the movie made me second guess myself for a second, so I guess it did well there. I still found it predictable though, the kind of predictable you thought they WANTED you to think it was & it would turn out different, but no the predictable ending happened lol

Haven't and don't plan to see S22, so why am I here? I'm glad you asked. 1: Because I love your content and humor 2: Saw the first 3 films but never got to see the last two, and 3: WHO ELSE would I trust, if not Amanda the Jedi, to give me the breakdown and insight that I can both respect and enjoy for the end(??) of a franchise that shaped one of my life changing friendships? Not in the creepy, psychotic way, don't worry I promise.

I liked Scream (2022) just fine. I just have some issues with them not being about to do math. They state in the movie that it is 25 years after the original. And them the secret daughter says she left home at 18 and her sister yells at her for leaving her alone for 5 years. That's only 23. So how did a 2-years dead Billy father a child?

My favorite part in the whole movie, and which made me laugh out loud in the theater, was when Richie started monologuing about fandoms. I don't know if it was intentional or not, but Jack Quaid might know a thing or two about toxic fandom since he's part of Star Trek now, and of course there's always people claiming that the newest Trek show is "not real Star Trek".

I can see where you're coming from regarding the movie. I enjoyed it quite a lot, but they were definitely overkill on the "meta-ness." I completely agree on Melissa (Sam) being wooden and I couldn't buy her as the new lead though. It should have been Jenna. The Tara character reminded me a lot of Sidney.

The thing is that me AND my friend went to go watch this movie in theaters and we couldn't take anything in it seriously. Like they had a perfect pair of twins with a bunch of movie knowledge that were relatives to Wes in the movie and they chose two Redditors that JUST happened to meet online and were fans of the "Stab" series. Not even that, but the weird relationship between the killers when !!SPOILER!! one is still in high school and the other is dating the *daughter* of a serial killer !!SPOILER!!. Like there is so many ways they could've made the plot even more fulfilling if they went full on out there.

Honestly Ghostface's horror trivia is more scary than Jigsaw's games for me personally. It sets up the tension and you see the character lose control. Also the threat of another person being killed if the main character gets a wrong answer. Jigsaw just throws you in no build up. And is way to over the top. Like I'd just give up dealing with Jigsaw but be petrified with a Ghostface call.

I really like Sam as a character, and I’m big enough to admit that the biggest reason why is how much I personally relate to her. I deal with mental illness myself (albeit not the kind that she’s dealing with) and while I was definitely annoyed by the way the hallucinations were handled in the film, it wasn’t a deal breaker for me personally. But what struck a major chord with me was her difficulties handling it, the bad decisions she made because of both that and the information she discovered, and the way she (at least partially) blames herself and genuinely believes the people she loves will get hurt because of her. Those were all things I have felt, considered or done during the darkest parts of my life, and still sometimes struggle with to this day. Not to mention the way she worries about Tara, as I’m also an older sister. So naturally, their scenes together were the ones where I got the most emotional. All of that really made me sympathize with and root for her throughout the film. I can definitely see why others wouldn’t like her, and that’s valid, but I’m not ashamed to say that I do.
