An Unimpressive Hotel Room at Tan Tar A

There's a lot to love about Tan-Tar-A. It's a great way to experience a bygone era: The heyday of the one-stop resort. This massive complex houses over 1000 rooms and loads of attractions that range from bowling and mini golf to a full indoor water park. Unfortunately, though, they're letting the basics slip in the rooms. In this revisit, I look deeper at cleanliness and maintenance issues in a room in building A. Follow me on:

The yellow/orange color on the door lock is when the deadbolt is locked, your key works, but the deadbolt is in use.

Tan Tar A is one of the best resorts you'll find in America when you compare em dollar for dollar. Not to mention the safety and security . It's a very nice place .

This room, despite obvious sanitation issues, is a wonderful amalgam of bygone eras. Where else can the fifties-eighties clash in such memorable fashion?

Late to the party but I work in a hotel. The "yellow" light on the door will only illuminate if the key is expired. When you check into a hotel and you get keys made, the computer will have them expire at checkout time. For example, If you are leaving a hotel on a Sunday at 11am, your room keys will expire at the time on Sunday. If you try using the key after 11am, the yellow light will illuminate. In other words, the key works on the room, it just is not programmed properly!

This hotel reminds me of a Comfort Inn I stayed at in McHenry MD (It's now a Quality Inn) when I was a little kid, the place was extremely run-down, the exterior was falling apart, there was a HUGE dirt pile next to the hotel, there were ceiling leaks everywhere, our room had a cracked window, and there were leaves and hair on the floor, but at least the beds were clean and comfortable!

What an interesting hotel. Bubbling carpet, dirty ceiling tiles, cobwebs in conspicuous places. And to top it off, a balcony with all the charm of a state prison. Methinks I'll stick to a much cleaner place.

It's not disrepair, it's "extras", which is why you're paying $170/dy. Built in 1999 (as I later learned), the All Star Movies Disney World Resort, is almost as bad. It's never been cared for.

If the door knob had a deadbolt (odd that it doesn't) and someone scanned an invalid key, then it would flash orange/yellow. Why would they make a deadbolt apart from the door knob itself?

or to warn if the battery in the lock is beginning to run low, so the maids when they clean the rooms know so they can replace the batteries well before the lock dies completely and locks someone out (or in!!) :)

It turns yellow when you are in your room and someone else tries to use a key card or enter the room.

If you engage the deadbolt built into the key card reader, the reader can't open the deadbolt, so it just flashes the yellow light to tell someone trying to enter that the deadbolt is engaged.

That’s a saflok lock. Yellow actually comes on when the key doesn’t work. Red is for errors with the lock itself.

I was staying with my family at a Lodge in Forest MS and what i hated was there was NO WIFI! WTF! We asked my uncle to borrow one of the Wifi systems. I hope i plan to stay at a place where they have high speed internet access, conventional breakfast, a heated indoor pool, an exercise room, and some comfortable beds to sleep on.

The heat lamps probably shouldn’t be used because there is a heat detector in that bathroom that connects to the main Fire alarm system and could cause a false alarm

Yeah that looks like the room that I stayed in about 10 years ago at the Ramada Inn in Eugene Oregon. Terrable for $165.00. It would be nice for $89.00, Grade for this hotel room=C-

Some people will never get it no matter how many time you tell em . "It's about the experience " Steve wynn got it a long time ago. He got it and he ran with it and became the King of Las Vegas. Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager got it and became the Kings of New York nightlife if not the world . There's never been another club anywhere that's came even close to Studio 54 . You can have the nicest hotel or resort in the world , but if the EXPERIENCE sucks for the guest well,,,,,, Ian Schragger went on to create the boutique hotel , go figure .. He's doing very well for himself... Marriot hired him for advice . I can't wait to go back to Tan Tar A ! The people there are awesome ! Always a great experience .

I like history... I hate filth!! This place needs new carpet. Besides that, if they went through once a year and touched up the paint and power washed the balconies, and went through the rooms even 4 times a year and took a shop vac to the corners (tile hangers, sliding door tracks, air conditioners), this place would be 100% acceptable and only get more and more cool as the years pass... but I refuse to spend $1 a night for filth!!

No ! Don't renovate the place ! I can get a room there in July or August 2017 and party my ass off for $109.00 a night when I use my Missouri Farm Bureau discount ! Golf , Fish , Swim , Great Food ! I Love Tan Tar A ! That place has a discount for EVERYBODY ! Tell em it's your dogs birthday , you're a Republican, you're a Democrat, you're an official beer tester, you qualify for the spaulding golf discount . You'll find something that works.
