I've read the book and I liked it, at least the first half. I like zombie stories that go into great detail and take their time depicting the beginning of a zombie outbreak/apocalypse and this book is among the best when it comes to that, so I hope the movie is a faithful adaptation and does that too. In the book it takes weeks or even months from the first news of the plague, over society slowly breaking down, with people still traveling and getting more paranoid, till finally the first zombies show up in the protagonist's hometown.

This movie roughly covers the plot of the first book in the series, deviates from it a bit though. The biggest difference is that in the book, the main character lives on board of the Ukrainian ship for a longer time, becomes part of the crew and is sent to a raiding mission to get some important McGuffin (forgot what it was) for the evil captain, during which he becomes friends with the helicopter pilot. Apparently in the movie they cut most of that out.
