Despite the movie's message being about embracing your inner child, I really like how the movie presents being 30 as totally normal and even cool instead of the dead end that many people today see it as. Of course you shouldn't rush your youth but being thirty is also fun! Thirty, flirty, and thriving, yes! You do thrive in your 30s! Career and lifestyle-wise, Jenna was at a growing peak as a 30 year old! Her disatisfactions were all because of her own decisions in her social life instead of some silly "I'm old and everything is boring now" crisis. You can tell from adult Jenna's already existing closet (and morally questionable life choices) that she definitely didn't grow up to be a "boring" adult unlike what so many other shows portray.
@cherryvisionproductions Жыл бұрын
yes that is such an important point to raise! this was definitely one of the biggest things i took away from watching it especially when i was younger. unfortunately most other media has completely opposite messaging about women over the age of 30
@spntageous5249 Жыл бұрын
yess i totally agree! I love how back then Jenna (and the viewers) saw being 30 as being in the peak of your life, very cool and diserable and nowadays if youre a woman whos 30 youre basically expired. We should bring back films that show how cool being 30 is, because 30 is still young and thriving.

I can see what you are saying but i mean many start having family at that age getting married or speding so much time at work they dont really like so i kinda see why the dont feel young anymore. On the other hand I agree with u because it kinda changed my opnion on being 30 but i rather like being a teeanger

Also since you mentioned Lucy having an edgier style possibly being a way to stand out from Jenna who also has a girly style, I think Lucy wearing Jenna's silhouettes and colors near the end also kind of represents her going back to her old girly style that she wore when she was younger now that she's yet again above Jenna and doesn't need to try as hard to be different from her. Especially in her very last outfit, she's wearing a similar silhouette to the outfit she wore during Jenna's birthday party (sleeveless, v neck, with some sort of neck scarf) with similar colors like the blue of her dress resembling her old denim jacket and the purple of her scarf.

I like how when jenna first becomes 30 her clothes are tight and uncomfortable looking. As she grows and becomes more comfortable in her own skin her clothes reflect that by looking very comfy, soft and flowery.

The movie is popular big time right now because the girls who watched this movie at 13, are turning 30 this year. I watched it, and it was really special to watch. Felt like I had reached a pivotal moment in my life, and yet, this movie reminded me to be a kid still.

I'm pretty sure those are porcupine quills, not chopsticks. Look at the patterns and the sharp edges. We used to wear these in our hair in the 2000s - could pick them up where I lived :) Great video.
@legsorcist Жыл бұрын
probably a bit of a reach but when you mentioned that her style took on a bit more ‘00s does ‘60s influence when her relationship starts to get sorta serious, it made me think that maybe she was subconsciously trying to emulate what her mom wore on dates before she was married, especially since jenna was so young she probably doesn’t have much knowledge to go off of when it comes to dates

i don’t think this is a reach at all, makes so much sense

Can I just say that I LOVE when creators of film put in so much thought and love into the details, telling a story through different elements that many people would only be subconsciously aware of :) It's sad that these days films are churned out at such a fast pace, esp with streaming, that artists don't have the time or space or budget to really just their craft to tell the stories they want to. I'm thinking esp of all those low rent Netflix productions with no soul.

same :( i really miss the era where this level of care and attention was put into the costume design.

I believe that another reason Lucy wears a lot of green is to symbolize her jealousy of Jenna.
@JP-ve7or Жыл бұрын
There's also just literal contrast. Jenna's pink and purple stand out more on screen when other characters are wearing muted tones. It's a pretty neat trick, the sort of thing you're not supposed to notice unless you watch it multiple times 😃
@wintersouldier611 Жыл бұрын
I agree so much with what you said about Lucy's pitch. When I first saw the movie, I loved Lucy's pitch and I did not understand why all the other characters thought it was awful.
@cherryvisionproductions Жыл бұрын
yes oh my god, i loved it! i think that it had more to do with the directors/producers own personal critiques about the fashion industry more than the actual quality of Lucy’s presentation.
@ScreaminglyRunning Жыл бұрын
This was so great!! I actually had no idea that the nameplate necklace had an important cultural and ethnic history and completely was under the impression that it was a necklace invented by sex and the city (so thank you for including that!!) it really speaks to how something innocent like patricia field taking inspo from kids in her neighborhood can end up almost erasing an item's entire cultural history.
@keekermojo Жыл бұрын
I don't think her hair is twisted with chopsticks. I believe they're large animal quills or some kind of plastic stick. The shape and color doesn't look like chopsticks and I'm doubtful the costume designers would allow that detail to be in the movie.

@leslietrang9115 Жыл бұрын
Are we going to pretend everyone on the planet was PC then? People are just seriously having these conversations that did not exist at that time. During that time western women would put chopsticks in their hair for fashion because celebrity western women put chopsticks in their hair. They sold them at Claire’s!
@keekermojo11 ай бұрын
@@leslietrang9115 just because it was happening, doesn't mean it was still appropriate. It was still disrespectful at the time it was popular. Hair sticks have existed for a very long time but there is an obvious difference. So in an entire movie about fashion, I'm doubtful the costumers would put chopsticks in her hair.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the chopsticks!!! Please let’s stop this kind of things, it’s none sense, I have many oriental friends and I’m pretty sure they’re okay with that, the fact that we visualize everything as a territorial thing even hairstyles in a global world will never seat well with me, I’m Mexican and in the orient many people are now using braids with bows, something very commonly used and traditional from Mexico, but no one’s mad for this at them, we just think they look amazing, let people express however they want in this global world!!!

Examine the current state of the world. 2 Timothy 4:1-5 states "You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. People will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!" Jesus is coming back. Are you ready?
