I literally used to be a ride operator there. That’s normal for the swings. Sometimes the swings get left empty because the doubles are only made for a parent and child under a certain height. You can’t sit two adults in there, so if it’s all teenagers or adults in line, then they leave the seat empty, it’s not a big deal. Each swing is made to hold the capacity of the weight of a car. And they have to buckle to clips in empty seats per protocol.

Jess...you were fine. The doubles are meant for 1 adult 1 child so they close it when they have adult/single riders. They are meant to swing and sway and twist. Nothimf was wrong with it but if u feel ot was scary next time ride single seater

@@JesssFam I’ve personally ridden swings exactly like that many times in the past, and I’ve had several experiences where the swing will just randomly spin just like that, even if none of the other swings are. That same swing could then not spin at all for the next rider. They are built to be able to withstand spinning like that (and some people do it intentionally, with even more intense spinning than you were experiencing). At least based on my own experiences, I don’t think you were in any danger or that there was anything wrong with your swing, it seemed completely normal to me, and something I have also experienced. That’s just how they are sometimes. I really wouldn’t worry about it! 😊 In the future though, if you think something could be wrong with a ride (which genuinely didn’t seem to be the case here), it’s always a good idea to mention it to the ride attendant just to be safe or prevent any potential issues with future riders if it turns out that there is truly something wrong with the ride.

I’m sure there was an adult and child in line waiting to ride the double together. Most rides will ask if there’s a child and adult wanting to ride together. I’m guessing the person in charge of the ride noticed and wanted to see if it would swing with no one in it.

I went on that pirate ship ride before when I was younger (very small for my age) with my older brother because I was scared. They had us sit all the way in the back row and there is only a bar to hold you in place. Because of how tiny I was this bar did not do anything for me but we didn't realize that until we started swinging. I was about to fly up out of my seat when my brother had to sit on top of me to keep me from flying. So I had a 150lb brother holding me down for dear life probably thinking our mom would kill him if he hadn't acted so fast in this crisis and let me die lol. It was the scariest experience ever. I feel like they need harnesses for that ride or not let little kids like me on. So thank you brother for saving me despite the many bruises I had afterwards.

Ok so no hate but as someone who lives in Santa Cruz and whose family works at the boardwalk this was really actually nothing. Nothing at all, sure you might have been scared but there are a million seats that don't get filled and when the worker locked the bar on the swing it was just so it didn't go crazy, not so that no one could sit there. They do that with every seat. Also the difference in weight made the seat spin. When they brought it down and back up again that is because someone most likely wanted to get off. Workers are supposed to watch the riders and see if they are okay, to see if they need to stop the ride. I promise everything was perfectly safe.

It's the centrifugal force that makes you not fall when on a ride that doesn't strap you in. You should try some fun science experiments with the kids later to explain how it works. Like swinging a bucket full of water very fast. Even if it's upside down at some point, since it's moving constantly, no water falls out. HAve Chris spin it, and the kids can guess if dad will get wet. It's like Kiwico but homemade. Hope you try it!

Thank you for not including the other little girl with everything Addie does. I remember as a little girl my mom didn’t want to make my cousins sad or mad (we were all the same age) so she would accommodate to their needs. my cousins would even throw tantrums at my mom. I would get punished if I threw a tantrum and she wouldn’t say anything to my cousins. You are a great mom Jess

I use to do rides anywhere, but now only do rides at parks where they are never deconstructed to go to a different location. At the NC State Fair a number of years ago 5 people literally got thrown 20feet off of a ride that malfunctioned & 3 were in the hospital for over a month. I’m like “Nope, No Thank you. I’ll watch from afar.” Such a scary situation to be on a ride & not feel safe!

You think rides that are stationary are safer? They probably get looked at even less because they never get taken apart. Joints could loosen or things could break and it could go unnoticed until it's too late because no one is looking over the ride as close as they would have to when putting it together. The swings twisting are normal. I lived there for 3 years & those swings do that. The Giant dipper is the same b/c there is a “lap” bar the shorter person will have the ability to “stand up” it’s scary but normal..

The little cove thing u saw on the water log ride is actually REALLY COOL! The water is much warmer then the ocean and it’s like a great kids spot. There are waves but no ripe tides. ITS SO FUN!

so I was reading the comments before I saw this particular moment of the vlog and I understand everyones view point. I remember having employees forget to block off a seat when they were supposed to and people end up sitting in them (nothing die worthy). I would like to see what the swing did when they were empty because Addie looked like she was in the center and I always told my double seats to have the adult sit on the inside due to gravity and weight (if that makes sense).

Those flying go-arounds always freak me the f out. I know it's safe, but it feels so insecure. Yours was spinning because of the weight difference and the heaviest being outside. Also, Addie was moving when the ride started and as it goes faster, that movement gets faster (thus bigger) as well. Like you said: science!

I'm not sure if it is that Addie and Ayla are getting older or that it's because they are helping each other get over their fears. Maybe it's a little of both. But I'm noticing that they are riding bigger kids rides that a few months ago neither of them would have gone on. The ones that spin and go a bit faster and into the air more I mean. That acually wasn’t faulty, it’s the weight difference, happened to me and my cousin, she was crying. People could go in, it was weight and no one was in that one cause not many adult and kids went on… it wasn’t broken you would’ve have died

I have a fear of heights and that pirate ship ride was almost my undoing. Different places have it as a ship and others do a dragon, I remember the higher it went the more my body from head to toe shook and my stomach would flip. At one point I felt like I would get sick and the 2 boys in front of me were making fun on my because of my reactions and I said "you won't be laughing if I vomit on you" luckily I didn't get sick but when the ride was over I worshiped the ground I walked on. Will never do that again.

I love Santa Cruz!! I always get drenched on the log ride 😂😂😂 the giant dipper is a blast!!! I would go on the ship with my mom and sister a lot! Just FYI only 4 people have died on the Santa Cruz boardwalk in 100 years all were people that stood up on the dipper. None on the swings yet but Instagram Karen here was almost the first.

i went on that ride last summer and it broke down while i was on it , it was slightly different like it was taller and stuff but the fact that the seats were spinning most likely wasn’t good cus i remember from the minute the ride started the people infront of me were swinging around and actually hitting into me and my friend ( scared my leg) and that cause us to hit into the people behind us eventually the people infront of us hit into a pole and i just remember thinking welp that’s were i’m going next and i legit can’t remember the rest of it until the ride was stopped and i started panicking because we couldnt get out of the seat for like 5 minutes and we all started screaming eventually we got off and a staff member yelled at me for not using the one way system and an other looked at my leg goes oh your bleeding and walked off and left us to get help from the general public
