Great Update Alex I was at Hurst Castle overlooking the needles , it was quite breezy there so not surprised hearing about the Breakages, We seen whole haul of an amateur racer yacht get lifted out of the water there! Anyways glad you were able to keep going, got to Finish this one 🙏

Is so much trimming really necessary? Not adjusting autopilot (higher/lower), but simply trimming one sheet? Several times per minute, in-out, in-out?

Yes....but alex`s boats are always a bit more extrem, so Hugo Boss works a bit better in downwind conditions than the other imoca, but works way worse in upwind conditions. In the 2016 VG this worked Out great, last time the Wind wasnt typical for the vendee and the fastnet is also not the ideal Race because the other imoca are faster upwind. In the 2016 VG Alex was downwind 0.5-1.5 knots faster than Armel, upwind he was always 1-2.5 knots slower this works great if 75% of the race is downwind, if only 50% is downwind this will not work.

Instead of those silly hand crank thingies...why not make one leg powered? The New Zealanders used one on the 2nd to last America's cup boat. Way more efficient. Also...even if you used the tiniest of pump that's water powered or even wind powered, that would produce WAY more juice than you alone can power.
