Wow haven't heard from you guys in while!! nice to hear from you!!!! I fly 90 present of the time with glow and gas second then electric third! I love flying glow can run 3-4 times longer then electric. I can refuel and fly again all day long, no waiting to charge batteries. Love my two stroke and four stoke engines. I get bored flying electric, don’t get bored flying glow. Your topic for this video, is the exact reason why we need people like you making these glow videos, please keep making them! Find a good supplier of Methanol / oils and Nitro (not that its always needed) and you are almost there. I look forward to the mixing video as well. I mix my own but I'm always keen to see how others do it. One of the old boys at the club adds 5% Acetone to his blend, it seems to smooth out performance on his YS.

I flew glow and gas from 1976 to 1999 before taking a break from the hobby. Never had a problem with tanks or tuning. Engines always ran perfect. Been flying electric for 15 years and it's fun but not the same. Batteries take special care. Built 2 new glow airplanes this past month. Felt good to fly glow again. Gas is next. Everyone can do their thing in this hobby which makes it great!

NICE TO SEE YOUR POST AND THAT YOU ARE STILL HAVING FUN. AS A GLOW FLYER MYSELF I WOULD APPRECIATE LEARNING YOUR SOURCES AND FORMULAS. YEARS AGO I THINK I READ ( PERHAPS IN RCM ENGINE COLUMN ) ABOUT PUTTING A TINY AMOUNT ( FEW DROPS ) OF ARMOR ALL INTO A GALLON OF GLOW FUEL. THE PURPOSE BEING TO LESSEN FUEL FOAMING. IT THIS TRUE, DO YOU DO THIS, AND/OR AM I OFF MY ROCKER?
@martinkolm17969 ай бұрын
I have heard of the use of armor all I personally have never done that. In most cases foaming is not a issue however some of our higher performance planes, just to insure there is no issue we will use one of dubb jetts bubble free tanks you can check them out at Jett engineering this is a tank that has a bag on the inside you use a syringe to pull the air out (vacuum) then you fill it up using a syringe this insures there is no air in the tank sounds harder than it really is. But unless your running hi performance Q500 it’s not necessary great question and thanks for the comment

My favourite excuse is " I don't want to take 1 min to wipe oil off my plane " but they will spend hours babysitting lipo chargers and just as much time discharging when they can't use them all. I think some of the hate for glow engines comes down to jealously. They don't have the skill and patience to run them so they hate on the people that do have those skills. I fly both I actually have converted electric planes to glow and some glow planes to electric it all depends on what I need at the time. I rather spend my time flying than worrying about what the guy next to me is doing. Love the vids guys keep them coming

I was just watching yesterday and wondered why it's been a year since you posted. I listened to that podcast AND I met Keith Shaw twice past year and had the pleasure of watching his 1985 black magic twin fly. However when he said glow is useless and dead I thought for days about how incorrect he was I have 30 planes and less than 5 of them are electric. He also said nobody wants to tinker with needle valves because today is cold and yesterday was muggy. Really? We build from blueprints and raw meterials but we draw the line at turning a little dial?
@martinkolm17969 ай бұрын
That comment is hilarious but very true those needles turn hard
@gregloglisci14819 ай бұрын
Yeah, you’re 100% right when it comes to gas or engine Electric motors are nice. I think they’re best discipline and Model aviation has to be control line but as far as RC airplanes, they are very limited. and I agree with you again on the point that most people in this hobby do not know how to tune a glow engine and they come With all kind of excuses, other than the excuses that they’re just stupid and do not know how to tune An engine I have a Midwest Airow sport 40 with an Enya 40 SS BB it flies for a half hour flawlessly modulating between high speed and low speed you can never do that with an electric plane. I can run my plane flat out For the whole tank and it loves it. There’s no puffing of batteries Or batteries bursting in flames, I don’t have to worry about how much time I have left just not the way to go when it comes to rc when it comes to control line stunt, it is very nice. They’re only seven minute runs or 10 minute. I don’t know which one it is. It’s one of those two though and they have a constant speed speed controller, which acts like a break on the down slope as the plane is Going into a dive, the prop actually slows down because the speed controller wants to keep it at a constant speed, which makes the plane very predictable into the next stunt when you’re flying the pattern Another problem, I see a lot why people shy away from glow engines not only the fact that they don’t know how to tune them they also over prop them And the reason they give for that is because they don’t want over rev the motor and hurt it which forces them to turn in the needle to get more power out of the engine so they can takeoff, which means they’re cutting off the fuel and lubrication that it needs to stay cool and overheat the motor and then turn around and say that is a piece of shit in which they are the ones that actually turned that motor into a piece of shit right in front of their eyes

Lipo batteries are a pain to take care of. You can't let them discharge or they will be ruined and you need different size packs for different size planes. I fly 2s for all my parkflyers the only advantage here is no noise to disturb the neighbors. It's to bad that so many manufactures of glow engines have gone out of business, I miss Fox, super tiger etc. There is no money in it for them any more because the electrics have taken over the business.

i hate it when you think the forecast for Saturday is going to be rain. But you wake up Saturday morning to discover the forecast has changed to sunny and you didn't bother charging up batteries because of the earlier forecast. That is why i like glow, grab your plane and go. Or the revers forecast says it going to be sunny so you spend hours charging up batteries the night before only to wake up to rain. Then you have to go through the task of now discharging those lipos.

I do not know who this "Keith Shaw" is you gentlemen refer to, but I have to tell you that he is flat out wrong about electric being "dominant". I fly gas and glow. There is nothing like the sound of a 4-stroke glow or gas engine. I have a Great Planes Giant Big Stick XL with a 60CC Saito radial on it. You just cannot get that sound from an electric. Sorry to burst your bubble Mr. Shaw. Whoever you are. Thank you guys for your videos.
