Am amazed how many you got room for and it is looking less crowdy than I thought. Guess you had better time to plan the placement this year. Lovely place and lovely trees!

Hey Nigel I absolutely love all the ficus you have!
@TheBonsaiZoneАй бұрын
Some of them are making good progress, I'm excited to keep developing them!! Thanks!!
@DeciduousSnurbАй бұрын
Hello Nigel, at 4:12 you talk about those two ficus cuttings. I believe that variety is typically grafted onto "ginseng" ficus. Wigert's Bonsai have some specimens with foliage like that and they call it Ficus microcarpa 'Green Gem.' I sometimes see it elsewhere called Ficus microcarpa nitida 'Green Gem.' I think Jelle has a decent size one with that foliage as well. But I guess there's no way to be totally sure.
@TheBonsaiZoneАй бұрын
Thanks for that!! Good to know!!!

Looks better than the year you had to crawl on the floor underneath something to reach some trees😂

4:27 I think it’s some kind of sup species of microcarpa, the only larger examples I’ve seen of them are only as a foliage grafted on “ginseng” ficus. It’ll be nice to see them without the ginseng rootstock.

If you wanted to, you could use Bayer tree & shrub granules on the soil surface to take care of your insect pests.

Thanks J, yes I was looking at it today, trying to decide where to take it into the future!!
@bonsaimonsaiАй бұрын
great tour! :) first unknown ficus: microcarpa long island. but i think green island is also correct. green mound has shorter rounder leaves. also called panda. the 2 small cuttings: microcarpa compacta. it's the species they use for grafting onto the ginseng style roots.
@TheBonsaiZoneАй бұрын
Good to know, thanks so much I'll add a Panda to remind me!!!

I love the yellow hibiscus! I'll have to order one! I have several including one that has pink flowers that look like they never open. I believe it's called a turk's turban. They might be native to Florida.

Thanks for the tour! Ficus microcarpa var. crassifolia ! (Green mound) I'm interested to see what you will turn it into in the future. Jerome from bonsaisupplies made a beautiful 'root over statue' with his.

@TheBonsaiZoneАй бұрын
The Desert Rose seem to be doing well, I let then gradually cool down outside as fall progressed and then put them in the cool basement for the winter. They seem fine....so far!!!
