And the game design of the single player is indeed beyond atrocious and frustrating. **smashes skip conversation repeatedly** They only had to copy GT4 instead of shoehorning you into a linear progression with forced dialogue and prerendered movie clip obstacles. And what is up with being locked out of playing certain daily missions when you don't have a certain collector level yet? The driving, the cars and the tracks are great thankfully. Personally I like the long-term incentives to collect special cars though. Games that give you all that you want too quickly get very boring fast.

I had a PS1 when I was a teen. Gran Turismo was a breath of fresh air and Gran Turismo 2 was near perfect for its time. Gran Turismo 3 is why I bought a PS2. Gran Turismo 5 would be why I purchased a PS3. Sadly, the series was on a down-fall and I had no reason to buy a PS4 or a PS5. The thing that kills Gran Turismo for me is its own creators double-talk and Sony's microtransaction influence. Even worse, is that Microsoft would see this and STILL fuck-up Motorsport 2023. Sony presented a bar so low and Microsoft decided to trip over it instead of releasing a good game. -sigh- These developers really should look to the past and see what made previous entries so much fun.

That's what I've heard/seen others say, that the devs should look back to the previous games to see what made them so fun. I've played all Gran Turismo games except for the first one. All in all, I've sunk about 3 to 4 thousand dollars in games, consoles, tv's and peripherals, I've spent thousands of hours in game, year after year. Only in GT7, I've already clocked over 800hrs. Yes it's a crappy economy. They should address that. I've up to this point, about 93% of all cars in GT7 in my garage. The ones I still have not bought are mostly the Vision GT cars, and some others. The problem with the values assigned to every car in the game are such that I created a spreadsheet, to try and tally how many more times I'd have to grind Le Man's in order for me to collect every single car. This was when my collector level was 50+ and already had like 400+ cars. I would need to win on Le Man's around 267 times more. And that's still not mentioning the wrath inducing invitation system to buy these special cars. That should be eliminated. It's too akin to gambling. Japanese, asians in general are more accustomed to the idea of gambling since they're surrounded by pachinko machines. I've seen asian peers pour thousands of dollars into a pachinko machine. This is something that is culturally so different here in the west. Gambling is an adult pastime. Gran Turismo is a game series children play. Also, for a race gaming series, with emphasis on the variety of racing, they sure are ignoring the endgame economy. As of right now, and in fact ever since IDK, a year and a half ago, with one update or the other, there are four main grinding races. Le Sarthe WTC700, Tokyo WTC600, Sardegna WTC800 and Spa WTC800. And since the clean race bonus is a must if you do not want to waste your time and earn the most money, I recommend Le Man's, IDK if it's bugged on purpose to not remove the clean race bonus unless you overtake during a yellow flag, that's it. Still, I'd rather be racing in Nürburgring, but the payout is never enough so I don't do it. It has gotten to the point I'm confident in my ability to run the Le Man's race while sleeping. So yes, in my humble opinion, as long as they eliminate the loot boxes that are the tickets, the roulette's, address the endgame economy by assigning better prizes for winning, maybe a multiplier based on the distance or time difference between you and the nearest competitor, and doing so in the other iconic circuits. Mainly Nürburgring, Laguna Seca, Deep Forest, hell, for all I care, they should never take away from the game, but only add to it. Over the years, excellent tracks like Midfield Raceway have been lost from the game, and these are choices made by the game director and producer. Where's my Tommykaira ZZII? Just saying. They bring 6 different but very similar models of Mitsubishi Evolution, which is one of the cars I love, but then, the car oddities are forgotten. Where are my Lotus Elise? Oh, you couldn't secure the rights, well, there are Tesla in game, why not the Tesla Roadster? And what's with the livery editor not allowing for partial application of the CF "paint"? It has to be on all the car or nothing. I can work around the issue with decals, but, it sure is exhausting. Also, I should be able to just select a part of the chassis and have it and only it covered with a vinyl decal, or paint for that matter, but on the game, cars are sectioned strictly in body, body 2 (which should be just hood), side mirrors, spoiler and other. The others take you. Should I want to only select the door, that should be it. Or the hood, or the trunk.

My 4 main problems with GT7 are these: 1. The ridiculous low amount of money you earn for a race and especially sport mode races. 2. The way that the car manufacturers and brands are jumbled up together and one single menu like putting fanatec on their making it look like a car manufacturer when it's nothing more than a page. 3. The Way polyphony digital completely done away with my force feedback during the update 1.50 on my g932 wheel. 4 and this one is the most annoying of all is that when you are driving using the chase cam everything is moving by so slow even if you're doing 200 plus miles per hour or whether you're doing just 40 mph the screen moves at the same exact pace.

I have been playing Gran Turismo since the original game came out on a sample disk back in the days of PS1 demos being included in cereal boxes. In that time, I played GT1, 3, 4 and 7. In my opinion, GT3 was the best for freedom and progression, GT4 had awesome elements but also had some changes that I really didn't like as well. When I saw how pretty GT7 looked and the positive pre-launch reviews, I was so pumped but I know better than to buy a pre-order games now days, especially after my limited experience with the games in between which was pretty shocking. I was relieved I didn't pay full price and ended up getting the game on sale for around $20AUD or so and even though I got my money's worth, I genuinely despised the single player game. Next-to-no championships, no real endurance events, the License centre meant next-to-nothing. To this day, I don't think there's any reason to get S-Class licensing, is there? None of the championships I saw at the time had S License requirements. The AI was pitiful at best, GT Sophie was a ray of hope but was barely implemented and don't know if it's even still there. The AI based races are either painfully easy or the cars have such a head start that it's an absolute mission to have a fighting chance, not through their skill but just stupid levels of handicapping the player. The GT games of old were masterpieces for racing games full of unique and original tracks like Autumn Ring, Grand Valley (original versions), the city inspired races, putting you in the situation of being the 'new kid on the block', starting from nothing and needing to grind your way through a number of different championships to buy the cars you loved or admired to then take part in championships related to those cars. If you didn't want to do certain championships, no worries - so long as you completed a certain amount per difficulty level, you could progress. There was a theme to the races, and many of them were very challenging, especially for the time. You had a sense of accomplishment when you 'graduated' from the beginner championships, to the intermediate, pro and endurance races as well as the license tests which were very tough to get the Gold achievements on. None of that is feeling is here in this game. It has fallen into the trend of most modern games, particularly racing games where it offers something that's a very shallow experience that has little to offer beyond impressive visuals. While I do love the way the cars feel, each one having it's own character, strengths and weaknesses but if you can't enjoy mastering the quirks of your favourite cars in relevant themed races beyond quick online Daily Races, to me there's no real point. I really hope GT8 returns to the old formula but I can't see a path where these games go back to emphasising a single player experience over that of multiplayer and micro-transactions.

Isn't the real fun in racing is racing against real opponents online instead of racing against Al? Personally I hate all one player experiences in games, because just like every other games, they give you tasks and goals to reach and to complete before reaching the next level, it's like they're asking you to do a job but you don't get paid for it. It's more like work than play. The more realistic the game is the more it will be more like work than play.
@jamographer6 ай бұрын
@@HDsharp I personally disagree. I don't play games to play with others most of the time, I play to relax and zone out. I like being challenged by the AI, in my other racing games I almost always turn the difficulty up to max (Purple Sophie for example or 100-110 difficulty in other racing games) and push to beat it. As someone who has to deal with a lot of people all day - something I can find exhausting, the last thing I want to do is log on and deal with more people or get stuck in lobbies with jerks who are there just to screw everyone around. Offline/single player games let you learn and experiment things at your own pace and set personal challenges that you can just muck around with, you don't have to deal with trolls who target you for no reason, you don't have to drive the 'meta' to have the best chance at winning. You can pause and walk away mid-game if something happens in real life allowing you to come back and resume as soon as your ready, not waiting for another lobby to be ready in a race you may not be interested in, you can achieve as much or as little as you like. Additionally, I like the ability to progress up tiers of difficulty, like in the championships from the old games. For those old enough, anyone remember TOCA Racing Driver? Now THAT was work and it was fun. Don't get me wrong, there is a place for multiplayer, especially if you have a group of friends who enjoy the same games, then great. But for a game that has a deep, core history of being progression based, to make it basically a GTSport reskin with single player being entirely revolved around Menu Books - which was basically an excessively long, mind-numbing at times tutorial - it felt like a bit of a cop out.

I think everybody misses the point to the single player campaign with reviews that are negative towards GT7. As a car enthusiast, it is one of the BEST car related campaigns and progressions out there. We go from slow to fast cars, and in the process when a menu is completed, we LEARN about the history behind those cars or sets of cars. Gaining a higher appreciation for the experience of driving them. Then, once you're done, you're able to collect a bunch of cars for the Extra Menus at your own pace. But in doing so, you learn even MORE about MORE cars. Not only are the cutscenes for each menu amazing looking, but the facts are great to read up on. Do the prices of the Legend Cars suck? Yes. Do you NEED any of them to do anything? Only sometimes. Most people online buy GR. cars from the manufacturers. Some of the most difficult single player races are usually much easier with SOME of the Legend cars, but they're still not needed. People have already figured out the best setups and cars to use for these types of races, so you can just look them up and get a good understanding. I have purchased credits before, but for me, I have zero issue with supporting the game this way periodically. It's a beautiful game that is made for the car enthusiast, unlike Forza, which uses car models from the FIRST GAME and has VERY little car enthusiast facts and detail. Forza Motorsport 4 was one of the greatest gifts to car enthusiasts, but then it fell apart afterwards with future releases and Turn 10 becoming lazy. So if you're a car enthusiast, then this should easily be a game that you love. If you're not one, then I can see why you'd look at the game with such scrutiny. But here's the thing. If you just play the game, you'll be able to earn everything just fine. There is NOTHING wrong with cars being priced to real world values and tasking yourself to earn them yourself, through your own means. For me, I just enjoy collecting the cars, driving them, racing them, and experiencing what the VR has to offer. You missed a ton of great things about the game and mainly just talked about the things that bugged you, which kind of does a disservice to the game itself.

Nothing you said wasn't true, and yet, I still find GT7 super fun and even more fun than GT4, which I played when it was new. GT7 is straight up a better game than GT4. Anyone who says different is looking at GT4 with rose colored glasses. Cars can't even flip over in GT4. There's only one rain race in GT4...in the whole game. There are so many gameplay and quality of life improvements over those games that they far outweigh having to complete menus in the single player (which I actually enjoyed doing).
@TheRageLivesOn5 ай бұрын
i enjoyed playing this game and getting the platinum trophy for it, but definitely not because of what it has to offer in terms of content or depth. the hand holding cafe menus are an absolute insult to the Gran Turismo franchise, and the lack of player freedom for events makes the experience stale and basically kills any replayability. i have no doubt in my mind that i will replay the older GT's for a long time, but 7 is one that I will leave on my shelf to collect dust.

I never cared about how much the cars cost, because if I enjoy the game, I'm going to play it regularly and end up with enough credits to buy them anyway. My big problems with the single player side are horrible AI, race formats, and tire models. The AI is so bad. They can't deviate from their preprogrammed line. They literally brake check you on turns where you should be accelerating through. After they brake check you, they have the absolutely most ridiculous acceleration. Also, if you're doing a 24hr custom race, they'll start running a 5+sec faster lap than the FL out of nowhere, without even a tire compound change, making it impossible to win with about 6 hours to go in the race. The tire models are garbage. How is it that RH tires have more grip than RS tires? Why do Sport compounds have less wear than Racing compounds? And why can't we have some sort of visual indication for tire temp besides the very vague and small outline around the wear symbol. I miss the color scheme they used to have when blue ment cold, green was optimal and red was over heated or highly worn. Lastly, the format for every single race is a sprint from last to first, with some odd ball fuel and tire wear condition, making you pit in a friggin 3 lap race. Or they'll throw rain into the mix on a 3 lap race, forcing you to change tires, only to have the rain disappear and the track dry by the time you exit the pit. Forget all the microtransactions and stuff, the core game play is absolutely F*d. It's not enjoyable at all, because it is a grind and your biggest opponent isn't the other drivers, it's the mechanics of the game itself.

Leave the ffb alone. The physics in acc/iracing/lmu are on another levels. I started with gt7 then moved to acc and the other serious sim titles and then came back to gt7. The difference is nigh and day. The physics in gt7 are too simple and primitive. There's almost no rotation with the brake (or on the cars that snap out on brakes, they do just that, oversteer like drift cars, they don't rotate nicely), there's almost no neutral steer, you either drift or understeer like a pig. Basically you feel like your car is on rails, and the grip is you either have it or not. Also what about the wired downshifting tehniques and shortshifting on exits? Imo there's no comparasion between gt7 and actual serious simulators. The best indicators are the laptimes. In full sims, there's about 1-2 seconds less laptime on alien laps, meanwhile in gt7 there's aliens pulling 3.17s at le mans in the gr010 hypercar, which is irl around 3.24-3.22s. But what is the most realistic thing in gt7? The acceleration, grip, braking, feel on the limit?

The first game incentivized grinding. You couldn’t complete the very first race unless you were skilled, which no one was. So you got 5th+ place to buy a turbo to squeeze your way to the top. Compared to GT4, GT7 single player is lacking. But compared to 5,6, and sport? It’s better. Compared to Forza Motorsport 2023? It’s better. Compared to any “hardcore sim” (project cars, assetta corsa) It’s much better. So while always online sucks, micro transactions instead of gt4 single player sucks, it’s still the best sim while still being a fun game.

Alright, your comment about GT7 being better than GT5-6 is debatable. But saying GT1's 1st race being hard is flat out silly, you can beat that race no problem with a stock 1993 Civic Hatchback at the start of the game. Not only that, but the race gives you 15,000 cr plus a Mazdaspeed Demio worth 12k. Giving you enough money to buy a faster car for the next race or just upgrade your current car. GT7 started out better than FM23, but FM23 is slowly catching up to it. Even then though, it hardly matters as both still suck in comparison to their predecesors. I mean, GT7 is still okay as a racing game, but as a Gran Turismo game. It's pitiful.

GT7 is, certainly the GT of all time. Good driving mechanic, quite good customization (even I can freely be artist here), "kinda good" multiplayer experience, and questionable single player experience Like yeah, instead of having menu book as a whole campaign, they could just have menu book as tutorial, or mission, while keep the good ol' GT mode, giving you freedom to advance on campaign, which means, when buying a car, it can give more sentimental value to the car, since the car would probably used in many events, and not immediately being obsolete. If "let the player experience many different cars", why the inflation price of old cars, when GT Sport can actually do better with reasonable prices for something like McLaren F1? If "avoiding player grinding one event repeatedly", why only 3 event gives the best payout? Why not more? If they keep focus on e-sport, why lying to player with "GT is back" advertisement? (And I thought Forza is the only one lying with "built from the ground up). And some minor inconvenience, like having a drawn out start for most normal event, making races feels like an overtake challenge, and only "red pepper" races that feels like a race. TBF, I enjoy GT7, only to a certain degree. I was actually coming straight from GT4, expecting something similar on GT7.... And apparently it wasn't
@THEGREEPMASTER6 ай бұрын
Spot on. All these problem were there since the inception of GT7, in which PD decided to caters both traditional GT style single-player and e-sport side with the Sports Mode into one, singular game. While its true that it seems like a good idea on the paper, but PD’s irl implementation which not only divided the whole gaming experience but the core player base as well. Now, we have two different side with strong opinions and priorities: -The single players side screams for more road cars, niche car brands, SP events with better payouts, classic original GT tracks etc. -The sports mode players shouting for more irl Gr. race cars and real tracks, more daily race options, better daily race payouts, better penalty systems and tyre physics etc. And the fact that the now-divided player base of the GT community have this “holier than thou” type of mentality and constantly plucks one another to further prove whose side were the most “worthy” in the eyes of PD wouldn’t help much either. Both sides of the fences are an important part of GT community and there’s no argument for that. It’s the lack of equal attention from PD to each respective side of the community is what causing the whole ordeal that we’re dealing with. TL;DR: PD basically tries to kill two birds with one stone, and fails to do so.

Why do I have to play so perfectly and expertly to get Gold, I am not SuperGT nor am I kireth. If I am learning about taking a corner then why does it have to test it me on a stupidly short time limit, it should rather have check lists like brake at 150 sign then hit the apex and exit at this speed, which will get ticked as you pull off each of them one by one instead of a short ass time limit. Moreover, if it wasn’t already to get gold that they decide to reduce the Gold time limit.

So, you think GT7's singleplayer is an utter failure in game design? Well, I would disagree with you because I think it looks good. You can compete in many interesting events like the 24 Minutes of Le Mans mission in the Mission Challenges and more. GT Sport launched as an unsatisfying single-player experience until the GT League came out, and I think that's what makes GT Sport so great. Gran Turismo 7 is not a mess. It is just a good game. If you like it, just play it. If you don't like it, just don't play it. GT7's game design is *NOT* an utter failure. GT7 gets better after Menu Book 39. More events, more cars, more... well... everything! I know we aren't allowed to choose any car we want freely and whatever order we want anymore. When I collected cars when I was doing menu books, I was not out of luck. I don't care if I'm unlucky after I get a car in a menu book. It doesn't depend on luck. Everyone is still buying cars in this game. Same cars, different appearance. Everyone is also still driving the same tracks, but with a different appearance. This is the exact same experience, but it's a new different appearance in this world. The linearity in experience did not leave a sour taste in my mouth. Bonus and extra menu books are optional, and I don't think they have the issue of how cars are viewed. Roulette tickets are rigged. Sometimes, they will always give you a small amount of credits, but they are not an aspect of the utter failure of game design. As I said in the beginning, Gran Turismo 7's single-player is *NOT* an utter failure in game design. But hey, it's my opinion. The invitations are not asinine. Of course, cars are locked behind a pay wall of invitations, but listen. *You have to be patient.* I don't care if I run out of luck after I have enough money to buy an invitation-only car, but I don't have an invitation. I just have to be patient and wait until I get an invitation. But don't worry, though. Sometimes, you can get invitation-only cars in roulette tickets. It may take a whole lot of luck. The prices for the cars (especially in the Legend Cars Dealership) are a very crucial thing. Take a look at the McLaren F1. It costs 20,000,000 credits to buy it. Allow me to tell you that Hagerty (the brand for the Legend Cars Dealership) lists the accurate real-world pricing for the cars. We all know what happened to this game with the microtransactions going on. The game sometimes has always online DRM (curse you, Ubisoft, for killing off The Crew). But when GT7 ends its online support service, it will be offline. It happened to GT Sport a few months ago, and somehow, everyone is still playing it. I didn't know what Kazunori Yamauchi's statement accomplished when he said that after the microtransaction controversy. Let me guess, it accomplished nothing. There are a lot of cars to drive out there. Cars just have so much history. The economy does not lie when it comes to car prices in this game. We all have to grind for more credits so that they can buy more expensive cars if they have the cash to do so. When I was playing GT Sport, I looked at the Ford GT Race Car Mark IV's pricing, and it was 20 million credits! This is absurd, but it's a miracle that the price was reduced to 6,750,000 credits. That's why the money methods are there. Like I said before, Gran Turismo 7's single-player is *NOT* an utter failure in game design. No, seriously. It isn't. Somehow, the campaign finishes before it even starts, but it's still a campaign! All agency is taken away in the tutorial because there is no point in freely buying the cars you want when you're doing the menu books, but at this point, I don't think I care. Anyone can still buy cars. Especially me. The game broke car collecting because it trivializes it to the extent of where it becomes truly meaningless and unbalanced to the point of insanity. Like, seriously, does GT7 commit the sin of greed? Yes. Well, kinda. Not really. So many cars have no reason to exist within GT7, but easily could if Polyphony just added more events (in which they might've done) but then we ultimately have to ask if they even remember that they put those cars in the game. The answer is this; they actually did put those cars in the game with licensing. But I actually don't think this game broke car collecting. I can still collect cars. The AI is acting strange, in fact, it is acting so strange, that it is used so poorly that whether the player is crashing at every other turn or putting in the best laps of their life, the results will almost always be the same. They struggle to navigate sections of track which they have no problem dealing with 20+ years ago and are so unaware that they can't even begin to comprehend the idea of sportsmanship which Polyphony preached to us as players. The game has heavily modified some of the most iconic corners from the classic circuits for the sake of a game mode, which only a fraction of players even care about. I never played Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (even though I still have the game but I don't have a PS2), but I can compare the tracks in that game to GT7 and then see what the difference actually is. The progression can be broken so easily that anyone can have millions of credits within minutes of starting the game and then spend that money to not even have to play the game, skipping most of the races entirely, which is incredible given just how few races they even put into the game in the first place, leaving out so many events which were not only beloved by fans, but would give the cars which Polyphony so desperately want the players to collect actual meaning in the game. The progression is split into different categories, but I can only complete them one at a time, and it goes like this; complete every event in the race directory, buy some cars, complete the master licenses, buy some more cars, complete the mission challenges, get some more cars, complete the circuit experience, and most importantly, *buy more cars.* There is actually a meaning to this. There are reward systems which insult the players and actively waste their time. A completely unbalanced economy, which means that grinding the same few races like it's a full-time job is the only way to earn the most expensive cars. Yes, I know the roulette tickets are rigged. I'm not a fan of daily grinds, but I'll get used to that one day. There are the less important things which Polyphony again pretended to put much more effort into than they actually did or obviously broken features that they've yet to fix since launch. It is all just a selection of things to cover. How can Polyphony look at any of those with a clear lense and feel any sense of pride whatsoever? This is a game which was billed as a true successor to some of the best racing games of all time. This is the story of how an individual considered as the grandfather of an entire sub-genre, a true visionary who arguably changed the course of video game history showed that he does not get why people love his games and honestly makes everyone question how those games even ended up as good as they did. Despite this, anyone will still keep an eye on Gran Turismo 7, but I don't expect much from Gran Turismo 8. I don't think that anybody else should either. Maybe GT8 will be better. Some people do say that Gran Turismo 7 is not Gran Turismo, and it never will be. But I disagree with that. It is still Gran Turismo because it has 'Gran Turismo' in it, *DUH!* The adjustments are still coming soon. Just be patient. Yes, the license tests are outdated, but I think that Kazunori Yamauchi and the rest of the team at Sony & Polyphony Digital have actually done a good job making the license tests and other stuff featured in Gran Turismo. A job well done, indeed. It's business as usual, almost as if the whole fiasco never happened. But sadly, Gran Turismo is just not the same anymore. Any player would never have the audacity to play this game and do this kind of stuff. Good grief. For the last time, Gran Turismo 7 is *NOT* an utter failure of game design. But overall, this is my opinion, and if you disagree with it, that's fine because we are all entitled to our own opinions, and this is simply what I think about your statement in this video. I hope you read all of this, and I wish you a good day.
