The D-30 is one of my favorite artillery pieces, so many countries fielded this weapon and still do...
@triumphant398 жыл бұрын
This is effective and modern enough as far as conventional artillery pieces go, in response to some comments saying it shouldn't be used. Look up the m102 howitzer, the m119 howitzer, and the m777 howitzers current in the US military's inventory. The weapon in this video is currently in use by 20+ countries militaries, and is currently still in russia's inventory. A howitzer is an indirect fire weapon, it's required to fire high explosive and smoke shells in support of infantry, and to destroy enemy infantry, it simply isn't obsolescent in terms of firepower, and won't be for a long time. The way that it will become obsolescent is in terms of it's fire control systems and sighting, and even then, it would still be usable and effective for third world countries and militia groups who cannot afford newer weapons.

Russia actually wants to replace them with the Msta-S and Msta-B but can't due to budgetary issues. The 120mm 2A80-1 is expected to replace it as light artillery.
@1joshjosh14 жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree with you anymore. I don't see how modern pieces are much better. This thing is very transportable it is accurate and I wouldn't want 122 mm shell on my trench. After a certain level which the D30 certainly is its all crew training.
@samuelmorales23442 жыл бұрын
@@1joshjosh1 That is the thing. The 122mm shell is considered too weak by Russian standards. It is significantly weaker than 152.4mm/155mm shells. That is why they are replacing it with a different 120mm soft-shell firing cannon that brings the firepower close to that of 155mm. The drawback is less range but faster rate of fire.

Prior to the US response to 9/11 when the Talibs had control of over 80% of Afghanistan, they had a special bureau of faithful observance, and their jobs were to roam towns, enforce burkas, ban un-islamic commerce (kites, music, etc), close shops during call to prayer, herd bystanders toward mosques, and beat anyone not toeing the line. These were also the fellows conducting executions during football matches. There is a difference between being of a faith, and being forced by powerful zealots.

Yeah, Talibs bring peace as long as you agree with them - no kites or music for the kids, and halal only refreshments at the beheadings. Those were tribal, not religious segregations. No argument however about the lack of professionalism, corruption, or dubious future of the ANA. It is possible to put down insurrections, else every rebellion that ever occurred would succeed. My original comment more pro USMC gunners and the venerable D30 howitzer than the cluster that is Afghanistan.

Isn't it a little condescending to those raised in the Islamic culture to presume that the average person does not wish to worship, or conduct his affairs as he pleases, and not be forced to close shop or herded to mosque at gunpoint 5 times a day? Please try to remember the initial scenes of jubilation by many in Afghanistan and even Iraq. That America has made errors in subsequent political nation building is undeniable, but I believe common people cherish Liberty as much in Asia as the West.

If the Taliban hold the will of the Pashtuns so be it. I only hope we leave the Tajiks, Uzbeks, and Hazaras the means to defend themselves this time. Perhaps it would be better if the political borders of Asia and Africa remnant of the Euro-colonial era were relegated to the dustbin of history. Should a new Caliphate emerge, at least we would have a nation state with which to contend when diplomacy fails.
