You actually put that quite perfectly. That is EXACTLY what she does... and man, it is truly insufferable. Not to go on a rant here, but it makes me cringe so hard when I consider that, very likely, thousands of people see/hear her say this and truly, honestly, sincerely, vehemently agree with her assessment (just because she said it like that) and believe this is just another gold-plated reason why we need socialism 🤦🤦🤦.......🤦

So in Ana's tiny little mind, Mark risking HIS money in an attempt to lower the price of prescription drugs is bad. However the government TAKING Mark's money and doing literally NOTHING to lower the cost of medication is the ideal.
@Atamastra
@Atamastra 2 жыл бұрын
Well, pft, yeah! That's obviously the ideal, how can you not see that? Oh sorry, I think you're assuming socialists actually want the world their claiming to fight for, instead of the opposite of that. I hate that this term has been so worn out, but socialism (and its ideals) are and always will be dog whistles for the complete dissolution of society; not just capitalist, all of it. Pure riotous revolution... only it will only revolve half a turn. It's pure envy, and come hell or high water, they will make everyone pay for being better than them. (Sorry, been watching a lot of James Lindsay's New Discourses; once the ideology is translated, it all starts to make sense)

My dad was an electrician, I remember all the brands of washing machines and oven or stoves etc.. back then (80's and 90's)these machines lasted decades, they might still work today, but ALL of those companies who manufactured these machines either changed or went out of business, the problem was no one needed new machines because theirs would last for ages with maybe a small part change here and there, and so businesses weren't making enough money to sustain themselves, which is why machines don't last nearly as long and need part changes so often now, it sucks and people can get angry at the companies, but the alternative is going out of business. It's sad and it sucks, but it's the way things are, sometimes it's not greed or being evil that is the cause of these problems, it's just necessity, so Ana screaming at a man who's trying to be both affordable AND make a profit is SO STUPID! That being said if your grandparents give you their old washing machine or oven from the 80's or 90's TAKE IT!!!
@SurmaSampo
@SurmaSampo 2 жыл бұрын
The reason why those machines last so long is because they are inefficient. Generally speaking as you increase the efficiency of a machine then the tolerances and loads increase reducing durability and service life. I have owned washing machines and other appliances from the 80's and they are robust but they use twice the energy, water and time to wash half as many clothes half as well. Machines from the 90's were garbage with unsealed electronic controller boards that corroded from the humidity and have plastic tops that become brittle from exposure to UV. The appliance companies that went out of business not due to lack of sales from durable items but due to the reason why most companies eventual fail. Lack of innovation, poor marketing, bad management and just plain luck. Garbage quality brands existed then and they exist now. If people want reliable machines then they need to be willing to pay for the extra costs involved from companies like Bosch rather than buying crap from LG and Samsung which have a history of producing polished turds.
@lowlygrinder2977
@lowlygrinder2977 2 жыл бұрын
@@SurmaSampo Pretty long winded, but no, my dad knew his stuff, I lived in one of the most humid places in South Africa, and those machines never corroded, only later on did they start, late 90's onwards, also electricity wasn't a problem, nor was load or time, and I didn't live in America where electricity was in abundance, I'm not talking about shitty companies either, nor am I talking just about washing machines or ovens, I'm talking about good brands, brands people trusted and my dad trusted, be that vacuum cleaners, irons, fans, cars, all of which may not have been as fancy back then but they were reliable if from a good brand, brands who went out of business for being reliable. As for your explanation on why they went out of business, that just another way of saying the exact thing I said, the companies had to change, and making cheaper parts that broke more often is one of the major ways they make money, or do you actually think a company can thrive off the machines themselves? I've seen machines from big names break a month after being bought, parts that cost too much to replace and so a knew machine must be bought, or parts that are sealed up tight in resin and so can't be gotten to to repair. I know what I'm talking about, but I guess you must be the expert, having owned machines back then. But then again so did I. Now I had to get long winded, thanks.

There is so much here… 1. Walmart has a $4 generic drug list (30 day supply) and atorvastatin (generic Lipitor) is available for $11 (all without insurance). Most of the time a 90 day supply can be mailed to the patient. 2. The $55 cost for atorvastatin is an inflated cash price, so the pharmacy can go back and negotiate with the insurance companies from a higher price point. This is the fault of the pharmacy, not the insurance companies. Either way, your copay is $5. It hurts the person that doesn’t have insurance, so Walmart acted on the opportunity to get customers away from CVS and Walgreens. 3. The “evil” insurance companies actually act as a collective of customers negotiating drug prices, but it’s the pharmacies gouging prices. That is why we either need to go completely private or completely to a single payer system, but dancing in limbo between the two is inflating drug prices…that is why we pay so much more for drugs than any other country on the earth. There’s so much more here and the “bad” guys aren’t necessarily the “bad” guys.

Greed seems to be a reoccurring theme in many of Ana's grievances. She doesn't seem to understand that greed is inherent to human nature, not to a social or economic system in particular. Capitalism happens to be a functional system, and nobody said it was perfect or the best that will ever be, but for now, is the best we have. I've lived for 19 years under a socialist/communist system and I can confirm that greed was as alive and vicious as anywhere else, and the 1% class (yes, even the communist utopia has its 1%) was living it up and thriving. The difference was that the commoners were helpless and doomed with no prospects for a better future.

The thing that makes capitalism great is private ownership. If I want to I can run a company on a net 0 basis. No profits, just enough to cover overhead and operation expenses. Or I can maximize profits. Either way, it’s MY choice because it’s MY business. So, to me capitalism is more than just profits, it’s ownership. And that’s how compassionate capitalism is possible. If the government tells you that you have to run your business a certain way, there is no compassion because there is no ability to be not compassionate. But if I choose to put my individual capital, planning and power into a business that runs in a way that more greatly benefits my workers and my customers, I’m able to be compassionate because I have the ability not to be compassionate

Using the etymology of the word "utopia" in order to argue against a political position is a bad move. The etymology of a word often has little to do with what it means, and utopia does not mean "no place". You know that's not true; you know that no one means that when they use the word. That's not what it means. Arguments that rely on changing definitions are both dishonest as a portrayal of what was said and is unconvincing since it deliberately ignores whatever actual point is being made. It's bad as a rhetorical strategy and is even worse intellectually.

I hate to tell Anna, but EVERY PHARMACY CHARGES A BASE FEE FOR PROCESSING AND FILLING YOUR RX, on top of the cost per pill for those who pay cash for their medications. I know this because I’ve worked at a pharmacy. It should be common sense that the pharmacy must cover the expense of labor, bottles, labels, bags, information inserts, electricity, etc on top of the cost they pay for the drug. To be fair, there’s numerous pharmacy’s that already offer generic drug discount plans so Cubans business may not be the best available cash price that some people have access to, but every new pharmacy focused on low cost generic drugs helps to slightly disrupt a long stagnant industry where innovation and alternative structures have been lacking since Obama care increased regulation and cost of the entire healthcare industry, potentially forcing change if enough competition eventually challenges them to rethink their business model.
