Yusuf Mohammed, born and raised in Kizingitini village Pate island.
One of the remaining taarab legends in the coast of Kenya. From mid 80s is when he began to sing influenced by Indian songs from Bollywood films.
Before and his early days of singing like most of the Kizingitini youth he engaged in diving for lobsters.
He learnt to play piano from Ghalib Muhaj the founder of Umoja Musical Club for the aim of nurturing Yusuf's singing talents.
And Yusuf was able to produce his first hit single ANA TENGE MWANA and that was the beginning of his fame in the world of taarab earning him a nickname Yusuf Tenge.
Members of his taarab group were:
Ghalib Muhaji
Ali Bakar
Mohd Bakijimba
Bwanaadi Stambuli
Mohd Aboud
Mbwana Shishi
Yusuf Buruhani
Omar Stambuli
Ali Aboud
Although due to his health and age he is still singing occasionally and I am dedicating his first hit single with this lyrics video.
