Mate. So glad you've done Anaal Nathrakh. Birmingham's absolute finest. Dave hunt on vocals is an absolute monster, he can do operatic stuff through to full on gut wrenching screams without effects. Got yourself a nice 20 year back catalogue to start ploughing through if you like this

Happy to see that you appreciate this band. AN has a lengthy discography, I own them all & they are all great. One I would like to recommend first is the whole of the law. One of my favorites. If you can find the collectors edition (CD), it comes in a hardback book with a phenomenal cover of Iron Maiden's power slave tacked on at the end. 🤘🏻

Anaal Nathrakh is actually a term in an artificial language from the movie Excalibur and means Serpent's Breath. No idea why they chose it, though. Interesting fun fact: the wrestler The Undertaker once had a music theme (during his Ministry time at the end of the 90s) that uses quotes or so from that movie, including the words Anaal Nathrakh. Found that pretty hilarious. Also, to me this is the extreme metal song of the year so far. Gonna be difficult for any band to top that. Hopefully the album can deliver just as much.

A quote from the Singer about the record/Lyrics. nothing to do with trump and BLM: "There has been, and continues to be, increasingly widespread rejection of Enlightenment-style values such as rationalism, skepticism, the rejection of faith in favour of judgements dependent on empirically verifiable phenomena and so on. There are local versions in many places, but in our native UK, this was summed up by politician/sinister gnome Michael Gove's famous claim that we've 'had enough of experts'. Thus we enter the age of endarkenment."
@matthewgodding7774 жыл бұрын
I mean, it's fairly obvious from the video that it's something to do with Trump. He is the grinning, shit demon avater of exactly Gove and Johnson's bullshit. The song itself on a meta level is about the rejection of civilisation by a society. Dave has said how it this horror is reflected in Britain at the moment. The video shows how it's reflected in America. I fucking love "sinister gnome" btw. Could you imagine someone you'd be more likely to punch whilst they were coked up? He'd be so fucking annoying...
@doctorkiwano3 жыл бұрын
Trump is part of it, just not the whole of it. Dave Hunt was finishing a Ph.D. in moral philosophy (in the area of meatethics and moral error theory) around the time he was laying down the vocals for this track, so it's not surprising that it refers to a broader trend in human thought than just one politician (and which will continue to do its damage long after Trump is out of the picture).

It's quite a subtle one for them. They're not usually this cheerful or optimistic either. I'm not joking either. This is genuinely an optimistic Anaal Nathrakh song with subtleties in the messaging. And that's not to say their other music is lacking intelligence either. It's very intelligent brutality. But typically far more blunt. Like a brick in the face fired from a trebuchet
