Anaal's recording process : what sounds that convey anxiety and threat have we not used yet and how do we mix them all into the first minute, preferably with an ominous choir? Anyone else kinda get the impression that Dave Hunt is the only person to read the exercises in futility lyrics and dislike them because it gave him hope? I suspect he dislikes Mayhem's Anti because it's too optimistic for his tastes

The same could be said of any music anyone likes. I like the speed of it and I LOVE how they're able to maintain the heaviness at that speed (most bands have to sacrifice heavy and groove for speed). It's really energetic and fits many moods I have. It's heavy and fast and loud but still catchy. It isn't for everybody, but then... nothing ever was. Why even ask because if you don't feel the same way, you won't understand.

@XINOXONIX10 жыл бұрын
Saying you don't like his style is different than saying his vocals are "shitty" ... I think he's got good vocals at the very least because he can do so many different things, black metal screaming, death metal growling, clean singing, crazy roaring vocals, etc. I agreed that Gaahl is awesome. also you might already know of him but check out Mortuus from Funeral Mist and Marduk. amazing vocalist, does shit that I've never heard anyone else do
@tomazrutar351610 жыл бұрын
Ivan Gossage Marduk, Funeral Mist ;) Maybe u are right the "shitty" is really not a good word to describe his vocals.... but was the only word that cam to me when i heard him singing. Its just 2 much stuff, clean, scream, growl, ecc. Gaahl

It's like strapping young lad if devin really committed to crack, pcp and rage?
@matthewgodding7774 жыл бұрын
As over the top absurd as it is (and that's part of the appeal - just how far can you go?) It's a mixture. First off, there's the technical aspect of pulling that much noise off accurately. The 'mindless' noise (I'd argue it's mindful - it's deliberate and preplanned, with all the adrenaline of a terrorist attack) acts kind of as a pallete cleanser: you're overwhelmed with noise, and then these melodies are born forth from the ocean wave and just grab you. You can witness your brain doing its pattern recognition thing where recognisable repeated sections occur. The blast beat acts to twist time, so the rythm becomes your own rythm. And watching on KZbin never does justice, you have to see something fucking ridiculous live at least once in your life. The sensory assault is almost like an exorcism. All the negative bullshittery of daily grind existence turned into a ball of screeching rage and turned back on you until it uplifts you. Moments like the forging towards the sunset chorus where the pressure cooker is let off and you can soar up on the vocal melody. It's weirdly uplifting. Anaal Nathrakh is what i play on my way to work if the radio dude on lbc has just started some monumentally dumbass rant that explains why we're all fucked. I can't shout at the dude who's paid good fucking money to spout his nonsense, but i can listen to anaal and realise it doesn't matter...
