@Nova Desideratum was excellent imho. It's a bit more industrial than the rest, but "The One Thing Needful" puts it over the top for me. Despite having discovered the primary choral riffs before this song, hearing them in the AN context just blew my mind. What makes them so good? The fact that they are unique, they try new things and the music is broad and dynamic. Listening to interviews of Mick and Dave you can feel that the music isn't about the lifestyle, image or money. It's authentic, raw and deep and what THEY are inspired to express. Quantifying how good each album is compared to the last is a waste of time; what makes them so damn good is that they always bring something truly new to the table.

God, it's just so good to hear and view this. There aren't much people to which I can share my love for this band with. I will never forget being a 16 year old and pick Domine out of the rack in the vinyl shop and being absolutely blown away by it. 34 now and I can still say, AN changed my perspective on metal and for me it's still the best fucking band in the world.

Eschaton got me into Anaal, loved them ever since. For me, the misanthropic vocals and sheer brutality drew me in, instantly. "As the world goes, the strong do what they can, and the weak suffer what they must. Shallow be thy graves."

Holy shit The amount of unforgiving despair i felt in my soul was amazing, especially when the story of the game and the sound of this band is such an "APOCALYPSE IS COMING AND WE DESERVE IT" vibe. Especially the suuuuper-nihilist lyrics and song titles like "Between the shit and piss we are born". Love it. Absolutely dig it.

100% agree, The Whole of the Law is incredible imo, and the first full album of theirs I bought and listened to, I've listened to it multiple, countless times, It has a ton of replay value for me. The very first AN song I heard was Do Not Speak, which was (is) brilliant too, but it wasn't till a few years later I got my 1st album of theirs with TWotL. Since then..... I've bought all of them :)

Once you Thrakh you can't go back dawg. SUCH an incredible band. Opened for them once, and I can't tell you how awesome that experience once. They gave my band a shoutout at the end of their set and pulled me up on stage. First time I had ever crowdsurfed, because that never was really my thing, but it was really special. Mick was nice enough to give me a little advice as well before their set. Dude has a formula that just works.

Actually Anal Maverick is not a bad name for an extreme metal band. To me Anaal Nathrakh has a perfect balance between chaos and aggression, a lot of experimentation and variety to make every listening compelling, great creativity in the vocal realm without falling in avant-garde weirdness (not that there is anything wrong with that), a great combination for any fan of all variations of extreme metal.

Passion happens to be my favourite Anaal Nathrakh album. I just love the way Dave's clean singing contrasts his absolutely animalistic and barbaric screaming. His clean singing kind of reminds me of vocalists like Rob Halford of Judas Priest and Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden. Not to mention the riffs are just awesome. I still can't believe Mick is Kordhell, who is, for those who don't know, the most popular Phonk artist.

I took a decision sometime in the past year... I've made a compilation or greatest hits album with they're best songs taking out those not so good ones from each album, and I've achieved an almost 2 hour long glorious selection of the most outstanding themes from them, and it scares me how good this guys are !, if they were not so heavy they would be more visible for the unprepared ears, which is a blessing for us familiarized with heaviness, but dude ... how many people are missing this hidden? gem of a band !

Really good band, i remember coming across "In The Constellation.." in 2012 and laughing because i couldnt believe how insane the vocals were, the heaviest thing i listened to at the time was Black Dahlia Murder so it was quite a smack to hear daves screeching and wailing and singing I really like their stuff up to Constellation, the only album since that ive got a huge enjoyment of is The Whole Of The Law. Everything they put out is at least quite good though, I quite enjoy their Demos and debut, especially the Total Fucking Necro stuff as it basically sounds like Mayhem on meth

Great video.👍 Personally, though I didn't care much for the first two AN albums. The production isn't what I like, and it all sounded more or less the same to me, really. I mostly listen to heavy metal and melodeath though, so I have a bias towards the melodic. However, AN is so consistent, the worst thing I can say about their worst album (Desideratum IMO) is that it was merely "okay". Ngl though, you were really, _really_ unfair to Vanitas. That album is so much more than just "Forging Towards The Sunset" - "To Spite The Face" has one of the best clean-sung lyrics that Dave has ever written; the intro to "Todos Somos Humanos" is freaking MASSIVE; and the final track is incredible. Lamenting the death of Dave's father by combining extreme metal with Italian opera? Genius, All Too Fucking Genius. Top 5 albums IMO are probably: 1. In the Constellation.../The Whole Of The Law 2. Vanitas 3. Eschaton 4. Hell is Empty... 5. A New Kind of Horror (it's flawed, but it's a deeply moving war album IMO) - basically Anaal Nathrakh's equivalent of Iron Maiden's AMOLAD).

If you listen to a lot of extreme metal Thrakh scratches a lot of itches. They cover enough bases to be a band you can listen to whenever/where ever and the more you do the more you will appreciate how consistently brutal they have been for 20 years. Sure there has been more melody creeping in too but even their ballads put most bands hardest shit to shame.

Their best by a long shot. 2- Vanitas 3- Codex Necro 4- Eschaton 5- Hell is empty 5 1/2- When fire rains down from the sky, the first 3 tracks are really bangers 6- Whole of the Law 7- Passion, which has brillant tracks and ultra cool guest, but I find it hard to listen in one take 8- Dominus non es Dignus 9- Desideratum 10-New kind of horror, both of them are far less enjoyable, they lack substance, it just don't click for me

Personally New Kind of Horror is not a bad album, it’s just… not AN. In a vacuum, I like it a lot, songs like The Apocalypse is About You, Are we Fit for Glory Yet?, and Reek of Fear, are experimental and in my opinion work very well. I also think Forward is a well made song, but like before, it just doesn’t feel like the band we all know. I personally consider it an opposite of Desideratum, Desideratum is too safe, it’s almost like a caricature of AN, with a small handful of good songs. New Kind of Horror is some bonkers straight out of left field unexpected and completely risky shit. It’s super interesting and I love the care for historical references, but it’s difficult to sit through. I do really enjoy Endarkenment and as I presume this is an AN album year i hope they do something awesome

I know them since the codex necro album. Their first album was a higher level of intense and agresion at that time making norwegian black metal not so brutal. Since you're a big AN fan I'm wondering if you've heard of a black metal band MasseMord and their album "Let the World Burn"? They play similar style to AN. Comment Section Necromancy: The change of the AN sound around 2012 makes more sense when you put in perspective that Mick Kenney (who is also "solely" responsible for that whole "phonk" thing) is a songwriter for the metalcore band Motionless in White. I mostly agree with your views, but Desideratum, whilst I admit is their one of their weaker albums, did contain drum samples from the Breakore / D'n'B artist Gore Tech. it may not have worked, but those overly compressed drums could be argued to be as much of a "out-of-comfort" zone as some of their previous guest spots.

Cant say i like Dominus and Eschaton as much as their later albums, I don't dislike any AN album but those felt like they had the least structure and production was meh. In the Constellation, Passion and Vanitas are all great, Desideratum is overhated, idc about being an elitist, the electronic and deathcore bits were fine to me. The Whole of the Law is in my opinion their best and one of the best metal albums ever, the blend of aggressiveness and melodic is just right, the way they mix animalistic screams and guitars with choral synths and samples is just genius, they seriously sampled Lacrimosa, god damn Mozart in an AN album, and it sound grandiose, its somehow elegant and violently brutal at the same time. A New Kind of Horror had its ups and downs, sure Forward is cheesy, but songs like The Reek of Fear or Obscene as Cancer are quite strong and even though they aren't as aggressive they are very well written. Endarkenment is good, probably their most melodic yet and yeah, its more of the same, Requiem honestly just sounds like a rehash of Of Horror, but it was a fun listen.
