Not when they put 20,000 miles a month on those foam-filled EV tires. Normal performance cop tires get replaced every 3-5 months in a busy drpartment, and the cars themselves get so banged up that they last between 3-5 years on the road before being aged out. Money aside, the really serious issue is going to be the battery fires, as cop cars take a beating in service. One cracked case, one failed piece of plastic, and the entire motor pool could go up in flames--like those cargo ship fires, the parking garage fires, that airport parking lot fire, and the many, many people who have woken up to find their EV in flames in the driveway after a m8nor fender bender.

It's a game changer on terms of accountability and surveillance. Will Tesla make a LE software suite. With existing standard tech, a simple license plate reader app saves $15k+ and isn't sitting awkwardly on the side of vehicle.

Most law enforcement vehicles/departments put one person in custody per patrol vehicle. Much more safe for everyone: no colluding between people in custody, or people in custody harming each other. No moving contraband between people, etcetera. As to your second topic: yes, every owner has access to the camera feed data. Third point: probably not. Same scenario for a gas tank. The difference is with a gas tank there is an immediate big explosion with residual smaller fire. Electric fires take many minutes to get going, are much smaller physically. Additionally, the backs are designed to deflect the thermals away from the passenger compartment. Are gas cars build to deflect flames and hot gasses away from the passenger compartment? Additionally, newer battery chemistries have a much lower rate of thermal runaway. Some don’t react at all when punctured.
