Always appreciate these sound experiments. Funny you mentioned what I was gonna comment. When you boosted the high end I could hear the magic that it provides. I don’t think it’s too aggressive at all.

Whats cool about your channel is how you choose to utilize a lot of really cool analog equipment that we typically wouldn’t see integrated into hip hop production. Lewis Parker is an og of analog hip hop production. Insane skills and talent, slept on GIANT.

Twisting knobs and having that physical connection with the sound is something that needs to be more of a thing. I know it's way easier to connect with an audience by grabbing a laptop and the latest version of FL or Ableton and a bunch of plugins, but showing how to really cultivate your own sound and incorporating the use of live physical gear will always be more interesting to me. Beat is fire as always! Keep pushing the sound forward!

@eddieleonard6925 That's the plan, but it would help if I had an actual vintage EQ to use as a reference. The oldest device I have is the ASR-10. I've been meaning to do so sound comparison test, so I’ll get on that.

This is what I wanna do in my jazz music! right now everything is in the daw with some cassette tape bouncing, but got me to get a vintage eq and comp :) :) cool stuff. Just wondering, but I think the bass on this video and with the mixer is to boomy and to much "in the red" or is that the style?
@eddieleonard6925Ай бұрын
Thanks for listening! You're right about the bass on this track...i mixed it too loud because my referencing situation is not that accurate. This track will be on the "beat tape" project I just finished, dropping in January. Where can i check your music? Also, old EQs and compressors introduce noise, but also a lot of natural lovely saturation, which becomes a part of the sound.
@THEREALJZZBUCKET.1994Ай бұрын
@@eddieleonard6925 thx for answering. Yeah I love saturation but to the point that it is isn't clipping or starts being "boomy" to my ears. That's what I love about vintage boombap, it is raw and production pretty basic, but never too much boomy bass or kick :P

Yes, it sweetens my snare. Very subtle device, but I really love it. I've always wanted a real MEQ, but the audioscape one is very affordable and well build.

1000% yes. Brought the track some life I didn't know it needed and that's what Buss processing is all about am I right? Some real nice eqs too look at as well are the Kush Audio Clariphonic, API 5500, and Maag 4. Not really affordable, but it's fun too rabbit hole this sorta thing haha.
@eddieleonard69255 ай бұрын
Thanks for listening. I've heard lots about the Kush Audio, it's kind of an urban legend at this point for high end boosting and polish. Never seen one in person. Same for Maag. You prefer API 5500 over the 2500?
@Tallstreehouse5 ай бұрын
@@eddieleonard6925 i would definitely cop a 2500 first, i dont own either, just lucky enough to have had a neighbor with both. The 2500 is probably my favorite bus comp ever, i got the uad version on *almost* every mix i do, and the 5500 just does the fkn API punchy EQ thing man. With the work you do, you may find more use from the EQ, more applications whereas the 2500 just does one job--for me anyway.
@eddieleonard69255 ай бұрын
@@Tallstreehouse Noted. I'll keep my eye out for one. Those analog 2500s never lose their value. I guess I understand why.
@Tallstreehouse5 ай бұрын
@@eddieleonard6925 yeah it's pretty comparable in application to an ssl gbus but its got a lot more flavor options like filters, fixed eq curves, knee size--even variable stereo to full dual mono--to fit the genre you're working on. The price tag is daunting but worth it if you're doing lots of mixing. I mostly do tracking so I can't really justify it over other recording oriented gear I don't have yet.

@eddieleonard6925Ай бұрын
The units in this video are EQs. There's no compression in them, so I'm not sure. Overall, probably too aggressive for vocals, but depends on the style of the record.

@eddieleonard6925 I have the sony c800g which now was kind of a mistake because I got rid of the Neumann u67 which before I tested both mics on a song I recently listen back to the sony was so 3dish more thinner but way too much clarity for old school vibes the u67 was thick no harsh highs at all when mixing also the redd47 mic is amazing both have a more soulful feel than the sony seems like the sony is good for pop and trap like more talking than shouting with lower volume it's amazing the sony is more of a pop and a trap sound which they both use the same equipment nowadays I contacted chandler limited and told them all of this they recommended the chandler rs660 and an ua1176
