I’ll give you a detailed answer as you genuinely seem interested in that question your posing to us 👍 For me it comes in seasons. I will be in other creative endeavours and I will experience life; after a couple months of that I stop creating for a few and when it becomes unbearable I will have a creative spur. First, I get back in the groove of making music, then I make around 10 to 15 formed pieces and out of that I will pick around 8 or 12 to make a project out of. I don’t really post ‘em but it’s a cool way to document my life’s seasons trough: sonics and lyrics that encapsulate emotions and themes. Out of those dozens of projects I’ve picked 12 songs or so to make a first public project. On those I’m currently trying to push trough the last 30% of producing something. I’d love to be producing 8h a day akin to the practice of the Jazz musicians but, that’s how It currently works in my life!

Thanks for sharing your process. You seem to be at peace with it, and not rushing or forcing anything. That's a great perspective to have. I also make a lot of music that I never care to release that serves as a journal entries, documenting where I was at and what I was thinking at the time, through sound rather than writing. Cheers,

I know the prices of these have gone up, but I love the way they sound. Pitch control is really fun, plus the analog EQs are sneaky good. Easy to dial in a good sound. Plus you can actually multitrack and make songs with it. Really functional recorder overall.

Many ways to achieve this. You can run your entire mix through it (like I did in this video), but it's also nice to use it for shaping/ pitching/reversing samples before putting them into your sequencer.
@benflowers25329 күн бұрын
As someone who is very new to creating music I had to navigate the ‘DAW vs DAWless’ space before committing to pieces of gear. It really came down to the ability to shape each sound and the DAW provides an amazing space for that. I think there is some resistance to the idea of integrating some keyboard and mouse into the flow and that it can ‘obstruct’ the process. But I think what should be mentioned is you have established a smooth flow with your hardware and you are not letting the DAW get in your way until you are ready to use it to dial in your shape.
@eddieleonard69254 күн бұрын
Well said. As long as it doesn't complicate things or get in the way, DAWs are pretty awesome. It's really important to understand how advanced they are in the context of the history of music production technology. I like to believe that some people are actually creating soundscapes like we've never heard before.

Good stuff... Re: cassette manipulation - something you may or may not be aware of - the Panasonic VSC RR-830. It's (ostensibly) a dictation machine from the 90's... Benefits: You can pretty wildly f with the tape speed. It ALSO has this feature (VSC - which you can switch on/off) that attempts to normalize the pitch regardless of tape speed. It is incredibly ineffective, BUT it creates a bunch of cool effects that I don't think you can get from any other tape player. It can also be controlled (almost entirely) by a foot pedal.. so, you can totally operate it while having your hands free for other instruments, etc. Despite some people selling them for $100-$300... you can, pretty easily, find them for about $15. It's pretty snazzy.
