An enjoyable video to go with morning coffee! I always feel more inspired after watching the channel.

That's great! Making the videos is a lot of fun and I'm so glad you find the videos inspiring. It can be difficult to get inspired to make videos too but comments like this and the great people I meet through the channel help a lot.

I remember GASing hard for a Fostex reel to reel 8 track after seeing it in a store. It looked so good, I wanted to lick it, LOL. Back in the mid 90s. I had a cassette 4 track.

I started with a Fostex X-30 4 track in my parents barn! I've also owned an E-16 that was great and the R8 which was probably the most fun to use of all the multitracks I've used. The narrow gauge Fostex machines also sound surprisingly good and are extremely reliable and easy to use.

You should make a tune/video with this setup that’d be fun to watch

I will definitely be recording something with this setup and maybe even add a few more things to the setup. Look for that next week. Thanks!

I think it's the best way to use color coded cables so its easy to remember. The mid 80s Fostex gear also has a cool color scheme! Love the They Might Be Giants reference there too! Thanks for your comment!

Nice Analog Cat :D ... You gave me the will to make my own setup ! but just have (soon) a "live" console :( without any "direct out" ... is it ok to "push" sound by the insert out ? Thanks !
@TwinCreekAudio Жыл бұрын
Yes, usually you use an insert as a direct out. Look in the manual for your mixer to find out whether the inserts are pre or post EQ etc and that will help. You can use a standard insert cable and use the send side as a direct output.
@davidhardy5074 Жыл бұрын
@@TwinCreekAudio I Can Pre or post by changing a jumper ! I think to post EQ Pre fader for "direct record" AND (thanks to patchbay) put into aux to return them to other inputs (there is quite enough :) ). Thakns for this so quick answer !

Hi thanks for your videos, one question: i'd like to use the Fostex 450's Aux 1&2 for effects. Why am i not hearing the effect applied to signal on channels when i turn up the Aux 1 or 2 fader on that channel? Thanks a lot i hope that's properly worded to be understood
@TwinCreekAudio Жыл бұрын
The Aux Send should send the signal to the Aux out and that would be connected to an external effects processor. The outputs of the effects processor have to be connected somewhere on the console with the effects returns or line inputs to get the signal back into the mix. Then you would route the signal like you normally do to blend the effects with the other sources. I hope that makes sense. Let me know if you need more clarification or have more specifics about the setup for me. Thanks so much!

@@TwinCreekAudio wow thanks for the fast reply! I'm using the Fostex 450, same as in your video, but the 16 channel version. I believe it's identical other than having more channels. What i've done is connect Aux1OUT to the input of effects processor, and output of fx processor to Aux1 IN; believing this would allow me to apply the effect to any/all channels simultaneously by turning up the AUX1 level on desired channels. This doesn't seem to work. I've pressed down the AUX1 button on the right hand section of the mixer. This changes nothing, all i hear is the original signal, without effect. Have i misunderstood how to use the AUX 1 IN&OUT? If so could you clarify how to use them? If i connect the output from effect processor to another channel i get the signal+effect on that channel,so i know cables+fx unit function well. Thanks very much for the help

@@ronflakey3835 I think Aux 1 on the 450 is designed more for a cue feed or headphone monitoring. Aux 1 is also the online monitor return for tape the tape inputs but can be switched to as a regular Aux Send. I still have the 450 and a PDF manual. I might need to refer to that and look at mine to see exactly how that works.
