First synth I ever bought, $250 used, and I had to buy it on lay-away! Listen to this thing rock! My buddies and I used to sit for hours, all elevated, and experiment with thing for hours. The cheapest synth around generally (short of Italian weirdies), and rocked as hard as any fancy MiniMoog or Odyssey! The Octave Cat was another lessor known synth that really made impressive sounds!

Great post here....I was watching this video the other day with members of The Human League and Heaven 17. They still have this synthesizer in their studio and said you can do all kinds of stuff with this synthesizer.Now I am not a purist in I think David Grohl's comment at the Grammy's says it all. "It doesn't have to be perfect....just what your going for" a jab at industry standards with overproduction as a preoccupation.Art doesn't happen over night.

You're like the "Kind Midas" of vintage synths. Any/every synth you touch, instantly turns to gold. (or at least gold for my ears) When it comes to vintage/analog synths, you really do have a way of bringing out their best.

Gorgeous! This is absolutely the best demonstration of the broad sonic palette of this little gem. It sounds very unlike the popular Moogs, ARPs and Rolands. Apart from it's filters it must be somehow related to the linear V/Hz scaling.

Good god, I had one of these back in the 70s that I picked up for next to nothing simply to have a second synth in my rig next to my Mini Moog. I never gave it the credit it deserved and to be honest I don't even know what happened to it. Another one in a long list of, "Wish I still had it." synths.

Late reply, but a reply nonetheless... Basically it's a signwave + portamento + delayed vibrato. The Korg 700 / 700s / 700fs really excels at these theremin-like-sounds, which have become one of the signature sounds of artists like Kitaro.
@peterpanama3306 жыл бұрын
Modified my 700 to 700S w/ factory circuitry, CV in/out, long sustain switch, "attack knob", sequencer controls, pitch and mod wheels from Moog. Stronger springs on keyboard, keys filled with silicone= much firmer, solid feel...most all lettering (bender, traveler, expand, etc.) removed. Original owner, still have it, paired with Davel sequencer. Made the panel in a high school metal shop. Still one of my favorites!

I've got a 700s, and it is GREAT! The 800DV was (I think) two 700 synths stitched together, so you get more oscillators (or a duophonic capability). The difference with the 700s however, was the modulator sounds - listen about 8:15 for example, or 8:55. You can't do that stuff without the ring-modulator, that both the 700 and 800DV lacked!

@antoninprochazka the 800DV (Maxikorg) is something like two Minikorg 700 (not 700S !) It sounds similar, but not identical, for example the 800 DV has slightly different waveforms, also the filters sound not 100% the same. Even a Korg 700 sounds different to a Korg 700S (in the same settings). Since all is analogue there can be differences from unit to unit.

I know, I pre ordered it back in January ;-) it should arrive in a couple of weeks. AFAIK the keybed is not the one from the MicroKorg but was specifically developed for the MS 20 mini. The USB and MIDI interfaces are just receive- only trigger interfaces for note on/off so you can use it with a MIDI sequencer or trigger it via a software sequencer, Apart from that the MS 20 is as old school as it gets -so no controller functionality, I'm afraid.
