Can Giray İçel revenge is a purely selfish motivation that one derives pleasure from. Justice is an organized punishment (usually by committee) for committing an act that goes against whatever rules one is supposed to follow in their given circumstances. If someone steals a vehicle from you you may get revenge by smashing their hands with a hammer so they can’t steal anymore, but a court would issue justice by imprisoning them for some set amount of time.

I actually love the 1999 version of the York New Arc. The scene where Kurapika is trying to develop his nen abilities and he gets enveloped with chains is absolutely beautiful and really shows the audience how much nen is a manifestation of our own psychology, desires and ideals. Some of the filler added to the '99 adaptation really impressed me and actually helped flesh out the world in a way the 2011 series didn't. So even if it's not "canon", it usually demonstrates some facet of the world that is absolutely true to Togashi's intentions.

I think people give WAY too much credit to the Phantom Troupe as "not really that bad". Just because Togashi draws them with more relaxed expressions befitting a main character, and that they have loyalty within their ranks, doesnt make them noble or "good". Kurapika, while a bit savage in his approach, was totally justified in doing what he did to Uvo. Whether Uvo felt he was in the right or not doesnt change that, he deserved getting the shit kicked at him. It's crazy to me this video tries to paint Kurapika as "wrong" for trying to dominate Uvo mentally as well as physically. So do these standards just not work with Uvo when hes thoughtlessly massacrreing a village of innocents? Did he win the emotional battle there too? Like come on dude

@agentchaos93324 жыл бұрын
Nah even allowing for the Prices he pays on it and how Circumstance-Specific it is, its still pretty broken. Like come on you have essentially a Novice nen user able to Toy with a World Class Enhancer with decades of experience. Thats a ridiculous power up. The nice thing about the nen System is that it was balanced so that even really gifted Nen users couldn’t be masters of all categories, Time emperor is Literally the Nen Equivalent of the Avatar State. Chrollo is the only one with a chance in hell of fighting Kurapika evenly in this state and thats only with a shitload of prep, in a random encounter he stomps every single spider 1 on 1 he could probably take 2-3 of them on at once mid-Difficulty. The fact that a second in that form shaves an hour off his life means 5 minutes is 12 and a half days. Lets round that up to two weeks. He could settle any fight with a troupe member in less then 5 minutes. 13 members. That gives him 2 chances to take down every troupe member 1v1 before he loses a full year of his life. And he can’t use it against anyone who’s not a spider, like ok fine he can still use regular Nen abilities and they’re his main goal. Despite the “ Drawbacks” it seems to me like he has exactly the tool he needs to do what he wants and the Spiders really can’t do shit but run and hide from him

@Ebon_Sean4 жыл бұрын
@@agentchaos9332 Your estimates of how easily Kurapika could take out members of the Troupe grossly overestimate his own capabilities and sell the Spiders short. You're not taking into account that Pakunoda gave them the information she gleaned from Gon and Killua's memories, and Kurapika told that pair a lot of important info about his abilities - meaning that is info the Troupe now has on him. There's also the fact that Kurapika doesn't know several of the Spiders' abilities, the fact that they're almost all monsters in their own unique craft, and much of the credit to Kurapika's victory over Uvo is owed to how much the latter didn't know about him - an advantage he no longer has. So to take more than one of them on at a time is even more out of the question than it was before. That's also not accounting for Kurapika's mental state, the arduous processes it would take just to get even one member in a compromising situation for him to exploit or the amount of time he would have to be in Emperor Time in service to even that goal. Or compromising situations Kurapika may himself be in, like the current Succession War. (Hell, he's already pissed away five years of his life on the Black Whale alone, not counting however much time he lost in the fight with Uvogin, or all the times he used Emperor Time offscreen in between the Yorknew and Succession War Arcs.) It's like Morel said, the second you start trying to predict who will win in a battle of Nen, you're already wrong, it's just too many variables to know before it all actually shakes out. Hunter X Hunter isn't the kind of manga/anime that you can just churn out a prediction like that and just presume to know what you're talking about.

Kurapika has little patience with nonsense regarding the Phantom Troupe, that has been pretty consistent in all of their interactions. His taunts could just be his way of saying 'stop wasting my time' (literally, with Emperor Time). Since he's a strategist with everything else, we could perhaps even argue that he was trying to distract Uvogin as much as possible while hiding his chains. He built his entire plan around Uvogin being an enhancer, who do have a more straightforward approach to things. But okay, that's speculation. There's also the chance that this was just a spun of Togashi, disregarding the standard shounen troupe of "this isn't even my final form" type of battle and we're all reading too much into this.

I don’t think the troupe viewed uvo as hero for how he died, I think they loved and valued him as a friend too much to see his death as anything less than a tragic loss of life. Regardless of “heroics”. At the end of the day kurapika may have gained nothing but the troupe lost a lot.

Yeah kurapikas main motive did change from firstly retrieving his clan members eyes to killing and taking revenge on phantom troupe which even he realized when gon told him after phantom troupe were presumed to be dead
@TenchiHawkwing3 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure Kurapika's taunts were just to try to get Uvo to use his full strength. Not for pride and not to try to crush Uvo's spirit but to see if he could take him at his max. Sure, this doesn't matter once chain jail is activated but I'm pretty sure he'd like to know if he could withstand the full might of one of the members *before* he's able to activate it in case he has to fight one of them without getting the jump on 'em. At least that's how I interpreted it.

Uvogin allowed his opponent to bring a shovel to their fight considering Kurapika requested Uvogin carry him to their battleground

Question tho: Did he brought a shovel or conjured it after he killed Uvo?

It took a super long time to learn how to conjure something as simple as a chain, so I doubt he went through the same training just for a shovel for this one purpose
@bryghian3 жыл бұрын
@@sappling2p well yes. You have a point. But remember that chain ain't your ordinary chain, it could immobilized even the physically strongest spider, now an ordinary shovel... That's a different ball game.
@mihaimercenarul74672 жыл бұрын
@@bryghian still, even conjuring a simple shovel takes a lot of time and it feels very impractical to conjure a simple one. Could just buy one. So there is not point into learning how to conjure a simple shovel.
@BusayomiOla2 жыл бұрын
@@bryghian conjurors cant just conjure anything basic whenever they want whenever they want. Kite, shizuku, knov they’ve special things they conjure. Only Kortopi with his gallery fake is able to create copies (there must be an original for him to touch before he conjures it) And like Kurapikas master said. Its useless conjuring something you can buy. So why would he potentially waste nen on a mere shovel?

Poor Kurapika ☹️ hopefully that implicit “decision not to kill anyone anymore for revenge” is what redeems him and saves his life in the end of the story 😔

Just one thing. When Kurapika was testing the jail chain, the point was that the chain has the same strength of real steel and he Uvogin wasn't only the strongest with NEM, he was also the strongest in terms of muscles. Kurapika wanted to test if the un-enhanced muscles of the strongest spider was able to break steel chains.

Great insight into this fight. I never really looked at kurapika as the true loser in this. Very nice! Watching this gave me an idea to request. You do alot of top 5 or top 10s on GLR. You think one day you could do your top 5 or 10 Overall fights (Action, Psychology, Art etc) across the many titles of anime you watch. I would be really interested to hear it.

Yeah I loved this fight as it wasn't so simple as the royal guard dying and nobody aside the king cared. We get the fight ealry in the arc and then see More on uvogan as it goes on and before it we see him actually hang out with the "villain" group. After rereading the story I love York new the most in hxh with every little piece moving perfectly especially kurapika becoming my favorite after the reread. Also it's weird how so many see code Geass as following the main "villain" while hxh kurapika played it like one perfectly having the trope almost betray each other. Kill a member and even take out the leader and have a "member" in hisoka feed him information. It's all perfect

Now that you mention it, it’s kinda fucked that kurapika basically wanted uvogin to show any semblance of humanity so that he could take more pleasure in killing him.

If the manga ever comes off hiatus, maybe we will find out just how tragic Kurapika’s story really is, obviously pretty friggin tragic already, but with terror sandwich in the mix it definitely has the potential to be more so.

This is awesome! Thank you! This is probably my second favorite fight in all of Hunter x Hunter because of how dramatic and important it is to Kurapika's character development. The only fight that I think is better is Netero vs. Meruem because of how symbolic it is and the amazing music that plays in the background, and even then that fight is just barely better than this one. Would you please cover all of the symbolism in that fight? Thank you.

I wonder if uvogin scream out loud when kurapika is near him. he could blow kurapika's ear
@KallieLandman4 жыл бұрын
If Nen was involved in enhancing his scream, which it probably was, then I would guess nothing would've happened as Kurapika's chain jail prevented the use of nen. Also Kurapika already saw him use it against the Shadow Beasts, so doubt he would've fallen for it if Uvogin tried it.

I think the 1999 adaptation depicted this scene far better than the 2011 version. THis goes for a lot of the Yorknew arc. I think the overall tone was sorta missed in the 2011 adaptation.

It took Kurapika a heavy vow and condition in order to beat Uvo. Uvo is actually mega strong. Kurapika made it look easy but the price he paid is not light at all.
