Kim Jung Gi is so good that it can be disheartening when I struggle to draw one comic book page but then you listen to him and realize that he did nothing but draw all day, every day of his life. It's all he ever wanted to do. He's like Jack Kirby, according to Tim Gula in the Proko video from Dec. 16, 2018. Gula watched Kirby draw and he said Kirby would do a whole book like Kim does his pics; no roughs or indications, just pick up the pencil and keep going till it's done. And thanks for the commentary Rich. You helped me understand a little better what is going on with the perspective. Oh, but as far as being discouraged when you see someone so good, I realize that there's still room for many artists and their styles. That's why I follow over 500 artists on IG, lol. And I just need to keep practicing although, I did get discouraged today trying to draw my own design of a martial artist doing a jumping, spinning back hook kick to the head of some villain. I just couldn't get it right away and decided to take a break and finish painting a Warmachine miniature, lol. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3u8eHmtfM17pKM

don't forget that Kim and Kirby didnt neglect their studies, natural talent is great but hard work works when talent quits

@@hypno5690 For sure. That's why I mentioned that Kim said he did nothing else but draw all his life. He drew everything he saw, all day, every day.

he drew until he lost his hair. the reaction this man gets from people when he draws is the same reaction Saitama from one punch man, when he fights.
@pmendes995 жыл бұрын
that was really interesting, thanks for this analysis. drawing all this stuff directly out of white paper without any underlying pencil construction shapes (lines to vanishing points, solids constructing the bodies to establish proportions or body perspective) is really crazy looking at the completed piece, he even established lines of action that flows throughout the piece from left to right, establishes areas with lots of detail and others clean for negative space, and sight lines from the characters directing the eye of the viewer through the piece. all without any previous construction, all winged in
@mike1why5 жыл бұрын
You're funny as heck, Richard. It was fun watching this with you. Kim is so far beyond vanishing points as a concept. He does a whole fisheye projection in his head as he goes. His talent for instantly mapping objects onto that projection is simply stunning.

As ridiculously talented that KJG is,I wouldn't suggest anyone trying to emulate his style. His skills are literally freakish,like one of those kids that can do complex math equation with their left hand,and simultaneously solve a rubik's cube in the right. Super detailed with no construction lines,no use of straight edges or ellipses? Yeah,good luck with that. This dude is just on a completely different level. Just watch in awe and enjoy.

Gi has just been drawing for a long time, claiming to not focused on school and I read drawing the entire time. I’m not saying that with time you will be like gi, but with enough time you Can at least emulate him.
@itpleasesmetosaywhatibelie38222 жыл бұрын
@@CRAFTE.D it’s not just about drawing, but structuring the way you think and draw. Most artist won’t reach his level even if they work as hard, or as much, because they don’t have the same unique thought process. I know he said he wasn’t talented, and I’m not implying that, but his love for art was to absorb all the knowledge.

Hey rich, just a little suggestion when annotating these vids, if you could use a colored cursor or draw a colored line it would really help to follow your thoughts! As the master’s piece got darker, the cursor was lost and it was hard to see what you were pointing out! I don’t know if that’s possible, but it would be great! Well done though, your comments made me appreciate his work even more than I thought I could!

If no one already mentioned it, Jung Gi tends to draw a lot in a fisheye perspective because that's how he remembers a room or a scene; he catalogs it by moving his head side to side up and down and thus he wants that whole scene on the page, and to do that with a realistic perspective, there needs to be a fisheye incorporated. How else would you get what's outside of your direct vision, unless you were looking through that type of lens.

We asked him that at his workshop, and he said he doesn't have an eidetic memory, but rather he practices paying attention to everything, which makes it easier to pull up stuff from his library faster. And he just always makes sure he's paying attention. That's what he said, anyways.
@noahhunt85753 жыл бұрын
He says in some interviews and vods that he Remembers around I think he said 70-80% of what he sees. I think another thing is that he looks at things with drawing in mind. Like if I asked you if you could draw your car without looking at it, most likely you don’t think to pay attention to every detail. I think Kim just obsesses over the way something looks.

Actually the character on his back is not in proportion to the one on the ground, and the wheel is only an element to distract attention, it would have to be a child on his back, that character does not make sense, but as he put it in the foreground I have nothing left to finish it and distract attention, it has no coherence, after all it is human ... !!

Actually he draws from a fisheye perspective
@itpleasesmetosaywhatibelie38222 жыл бұрын
He seems to have done it on purpose. I’ve watched many of his livestreams and videos. In real perspective, many things are blocking many other things. You could technically say the whole nature of the drawing is out of normal perspective, but he’s warping it to show you all the areas, and indication of the scene. He uses fish eye perspective, and he even warps things at the side of drawing a little bit just to fit things through.
