Thanks for the explanation. I have one question, at 30:00 you state 'there is no shear force' and therefore f2=f3=0. There is an internal shear force in the beam (as a result from the udl) and initially I thought f2 and f3 would represent the reactions at node 2 and three just like v2 and v3 represent the deformation. But now I wonder do f2 and f3 represent point loads at the joints? In that case the statement f2=f3 is correct. So my question is what do f2 and f3 represent?

Thank you very much for this clear explanation..but are you sure that F2=F3=0? (30:23) It seems to me that F2 and F3 should be the reaction forces at the hinges 2 and 3 respectively, so they must be different than 0 (especially that u2=u3=0). Am I wrong?...However, this has not affected the accuracy of the results and the clarity of your approach. Please accept all my deep respects from Tunisia

Hi, Your work here has helped me a lot with FEM. Thank you! However, At 30:03, you said that there'll be no bending moment at node 2. I thought continuous beams have a hugging/negative moments over the supports? There ought to be a moment there since it is not a hinged connection at node 2.

Moment of inertia I is given for entire beam but why are u using that value of I for element 1? Because inertia for element 1 will be bd^3/12 where b is 4m for element 1
@MaheshGadwantikar
@MaheshGadwantikar 5 жыл бұрын
Let me explain you, the moment of inertia is given in the question that is about 4x10^-6, so you no need to calculate, any how the b and d value we don't know, and In the solution I can consider same inertia for both elements.. Please check once
@MaheshGadwantikar

@akashpattanshetti1476

@@MaheshGadwantikar my B is not width. The inertia for element 1 will be 4×d^3/12 where d can be found out by equating given inertia of entire that is I= 9×d^3/12 ...from this d we can thn calculate inertia for each element because since elements are of different length we can't take inertia of entire beam equal to individual element inertia

I don't think both conditions v2=0 and F2=0 can be met at the same time. Same remarks for v3=0 and F3=0. We overlooked this because it didn't have any incidence over the final answers as we were asked to find the rotations.
