This is incredible. My game has improved drastically simply from watching, re-watching, studying, and mimicking the things Dean points out in this video. This is, bar none, the best video on bowling mechanics, form, technique, and execution. No question.

This was a great study and I was talking with my pro shop tech about this same subject. There are so many moving parts in reagards to this game that if you want to be good you have to master them. This one is one of the hardest to do, but when you can command this techique along with your mental game you will be a hard player to stop. Thank you for taking time out and doing this study. I can't see why anyone would waste time to say anything negative about this clip.

Awesome video. I took up bowling last year and ended the season with a decent average for a rookie (175 ). I've hit a "sophmore slump" and my average has plummeted to 160. This video has helped me see some of the things I've been ignoring this year and also some new things I can try. Thanks

Best bowling video ever. It's difficult to learn how to bowl when no one can demonstrate the correct methods. This allows you to visualize the proper technique and work towards appropriate technique. Thanks for creating this and sharing.

I like this video for a few reasons. First and foremost, it does not try to "teach" someone a correct way of bowling, but analyzes the professionals and reports on the key aspects of their game. Secondly, it shows a great mix of players, all with different approaches and neglects to mention them because all of these key parts of the pros' games can be adapted to any efficient approach. Excellent video!

Sleeper video of the modern release broken down. A lot of people glaze over the topic with a bunch of general knowledge, but this video breaks down each stage of the release with multiple examples. This is so important because no release is exactly the same, but the basic principles applied are. A+ even with no audio commentary. Some words of description and then video evidence. If a picture is worth a thousand words then video might be worth millions!

I was like you 2 months ago, but you have to keep practicing.. you just need to relax, the movement is so natural at the end that when you start hooking the ball it becomes automatic. I had a lot of help watching videos like this, my mistake was that I needed to slow the speed a little so I can cup the ball in a better way and get more revs. Hope this helps.. and great video!

1 verbiage/terminology refinement: knee continuation vs. center of gravity or maybe stance. What you are terming as knee continuation is an effect of the bowlers transitioning from a strong core, vertical upper body, well balance plant with their ball in hand to a stance which maintains their center of gravity without the ball and compensating for momentum. The key is ballanced, strong plant step prior to throwing the ball allows them to grip the ball more effectively and release it with those extra revs.

I bowled my first 700 this past weekend but always looking to get better, I think I'll have to take a look at my release in a lot of detail. I like the fact of following your head for better timing, thumb pointing down in the end. See if I can incorporate that in my style. Thanks for the video!

Very nice!! It should also be obvious that different patterns require differences in hand, swing arc, cupping and many other mechanical attributes of the ball release.

I've been taking lessons for a month and in that month, my average has gone from 137 to 172. My monthly average for September was 150. My October average was 189. These are the techniques that my coach teaches. It takes considerable work to accomplish these techniques, but they do pay off. I'm a believer and so are those who used to laugh at my bowling. :D

very good video i think. im going to bring it up when i meet a few of this pros later this month in japan. i feel that most of things i think about and try work on are all touched in video. only a few things are left out. and of those all are something that can only be learned by doing it. very good video and props for taking the time to make it:)
@humberto30012 жыл бұрын
The ¨cup un-cup¨ of the release has to do with revs as much as it has to do with control, if you ¨hit up¨on the ball, then your ball motion gets very agressive and jumpy. Thats why so many of them follow through to the left side, trying to ¨roll¨ the ball, not ¨grab¨ it. Great video.

I sound similar to kevall1. Started "serious" bowling (i.e.: bought a ball, shoes, learned a hook) in April. Finished summer league with a 173 average, but then I broke my right wrist in August (ice hockey) and am just now getting back to my right side after surgery. (I bowled left in the meantime, high game 220! :) But as I get back to "form", this video should be GREAT for helping better my technique which still needed a lot work. THANKS Dean!

Dean thanks for making this video. I have been looking for this exact lesson! I am an unconventional bowler I guess. I learned to bowl with a 16 pound ball many years ago when i was much lighter and the ball felt much heavier so to get the spin like everyone else i had to hold the ball in the cup of my hand and roll it off the left side but I got pretty good with that. Years later I am getting back into it and I am still good that way but really want to be more graceful. I am even having trouble getting full extension on the back swing in primal fear of dropping the ball as i did in my youth, so embarrassing lol. I am sure i will be watching this video at the lanes tomorrow.

Outstanding analyses, something to watch over and over. Even if we can't duplicate, at least we can get similar? What I mean is, remember, how you tried something in the past and could never seem to get it, yet if you kept at it - even if you gave up trying to do it, "suddenly" you were doing it? (Or at least something verisimilar to it?) But, be cautious, last season I had to stop bowling for a couple weeks when I injured myself trying a new style of release. It takes physical conditioning.

The outward movement is just extending your arm. It's the horizontal movement in the push-away. In the stance, your arm is bent but it is extended in the push-way so that it can do the whole pendulum free armswing thing. With a "hinge" push-away, this extension of the arm looks less pronounced and the arm just drops more, rather than going out in front of the torso really far.
