Pres. Marcos did an excellent work in highlighting the need for regional stability and the need for ASEAN to make a firm commitment to support and uphold the rules-based international order. Pres. Marcos is setting the new bar for future presidents of the Philippines. Filipinos cannot afford to elect a next president who cannot meet that standard because the role that the country is playing in the region is becoming so seriously critical for the preservation of peace and stability in the Asia Pacific. Filipinos did not make this choice but that burden and responsibility has come upon them by the mere strategic location of their archipelago in the region and the current geopolitical dynamics in the Indo-Pacific. Filipinos have no choice but to step up for the sake of regional order and prosperity.

I felt Pres Marcos opening speech was truly remarkable and painted the state that we are in now, and ASEAN leaders should be on the same page in responding to possible threats from Communist China. Where the Nine-dash line is CCP claims in the South China Sea, it has now become Ten-dash line. I’m from East Malaysia, and I feel our government should raise our guards on potential extension of the CCP claims, the current Ten-dash line could easily become 12, 15 or more in the future. I feel it’s the regime’s wish to take over the whole SC Sea 😢

To deter China's belligerent expansion and control of the West Philippine Sea and the invasion threat of Taiwan, by PRC, The US, Philippine, Japan and other like-minded allies should jointly patrol the West Philippine Sea. The US should deploy more Typhon missiles systems and HIMARS, on strategic sites specially on Palawan, Subic, Cagayan and Batanes overlooking the Bashi channel , and combat aircrafts on air bases, help build a Balabac base, revive Subic base and build Batanes port that can accomodate US naval fleet.
