Nice video! I recently bought that book and is an excellent way to start learning about baseball analytics. Additionally, I take an R course in Coursera. My goals are create a baseball blog about stats and work with a baseball team in Puerto Rico winter league.

Thank you for the video. I have definitely been looking for some guidance on how to get my foot in the door with analyzing data. Currently I write for a site called Last Word on Baseball. I cover the Red Sox for them. In my writing I try to include as many analytics as possible. Ideally I'd love to work in a front office analyzing data in some capacity. For someone with no traditional background in data analytics I do feel that sometimes the odds are stacked against me. I recently ordered Analyzing Data With R and enrolled in a class with Data Camp. Is there any other advice you'd have for someone like me who is passionate about the game but doesn't have the traditional background?

So glad you’ve found this video valuable! Hopefully you can find some in some of the other videos on the channel as well. From someone who also didn’t have the typical playing experience background, you can be assured that it is possible nowadays. The game is definitely changing towards hiring the best person for the job rather than someone who has played. My best piece of advice is do to exactly what you’re doing - to find any way you can to gain valuable experience in the area you’re looking to get into. Whether that’s independent analytical projects that you show off in your writings or taking an internship or volunteering for a local team/training facility that experience is invaluable. Other than that, reaching out to individuals who are in the field you’re looking to get into us the next best thing to learn more about what you need to do in order to get your foot in the door. That way you’re building your network before simply reaching out for a job as well as learning more about what people in the industry do! Hopefully you find this helpful, and good luck! Thanks for the comment, Julian!
